Red Dots

This week, we got our hands on the latest member of the SIG miniature red dot family, the Romeo 1 Pro. Designed to slide mount on pistols, with the option available for Picatinny mounting to rifles, this little guy is a great addition to the lineup. Most of you are probably asking what is the difference between the Romeo 1 and the Romeo 1 Pro, and that is a valid question. The answer requires a little bit of storytime though.

I needed to find optics that were a good value and not just cheap. I found that Holosun fitted that role well.

SIG developed a new magazine and slightly extended the grip of the Macro so that it now has a capacity of 17 + 1. The longer grip provides space for a full-handed grip while still retaining the 365’s comfort and ergonomics.

I highly recommend this pistol red dot especially if you’re struggling to get used to them and still want to see what all the hype was about. The ACSS Vulcan was fast, consistent, and made follow-up shots incredibly easy.

In the gun world, Predator can mean a lot of things. Typically Predator is a name applied to hunting optics, gun, camouflage finishes, and the like. Red dots on pistols continues to be one of the strongest trends in the industry, which leads to some incredible developments. Much like electronics in other consumer spaces, it doesn’t take long for what was once only an option for the rich to make its way down to us mortals. It wasn’t that long ago that an HD TV cost a fortune, with very few brand options. Now you would be hard-pressed to find a television that wasn’t HD, including the sub $200 models at Best Buy or Walmart. As goes TV’s, now so goes slide mounted red dots.

When I heard that Crimson Trace had come out with a new line of red dot sights, their Rapid Aiming Dots (RAD), it made complete sense to me. After all, Crimson Trace has been in the firearm laser and light business for decades, and in more recent years has introduced their scope lines, so adding electronics into optics to get new electronic sights seems to be the natural progression.
