A year before Commando hit the big screen, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, saw a very public example of just how far one man might go to avenge a crime committed against his child. That man’s name was Gary Plauche.

Ruger 10/22 Charger – The Ultimate Donor Gun? Reviewed
Published: March 20, 2022 { 9 comments }This week is a bit of an odd duck, as we rather intentionally bought a gun we intend to look nothing like factory in just a few weeks. But since we do have it, we thought why not take a look at it as it sits. We mean of course the Ruger 10/22 Charger, the red headed step child of rimfires.
Sir Maurice Mickelwhite CBE
Published: March 20, 2022 { 13 comments }Dashing, handsome, and successful, Michael Caine is the archetypal movie star. When younger, however, he was also apparently quite the competent soldier as well.
From Boise with Love; Palouse-Lite Lower
Published: March 13, 2022 { 5 comments }With all the shenanigans going on in Washington, this is a really good time to invest some coin in lower receivers. Even if you don’t plan on a build right now, one never knows what the future will hold
David Burke: I am the Problem
Published: March 12, 2022 { 6 comments }Burke had a penchant for violence and a mean temper. These things always seem obvious in retrospect, but David Burke was also a dangerously self-centered opportunist. Though he never married, he fathered seven children by four women. Apparently, nobody could stand living with the guy for very long.
Alexander Prokhorenko: The Russian Rambo
Published: March 4, 2022 { 14 comments }Why do soldiers fight? The movies and government propagandists would have us believe it is for grand causes. Young folk go to war to free people from oppression or defend their homeland against soulless invaders. To a degree that is true. Soldiers may indeed go to war for such stuff as this. However, what keeps them in the suck is invariably their friends.
FNH 502: Greatest Trainer of All Time?
Published: February 27, 2022 { 7 comments }In my opinion, perhaps the hottest new gun of 2021 is a rimfire. Introduced last month, the new FNH 502 has proven to be everything we needed for this day and age. Why am I, usually the tactical nerd for GunsAmerica Digest, so hot and bothered for a pistol that shoots 22 LR? Well mostly because I have purchased ammunition in the last two years. And even before that, I was very intrigued by the idea of a training pistol in a cheaper caliber. The FNH delivers in a way no one else has to date.
Jim Bowie and the Vidalia Sandbar Fight
Published: February 26, 2022 { 11 comments }Depending upon what you read, Bowie was shot either two or three times and received between four and seven separate stab wounds. Colonel Crain, the man who shot him in the first place, helped the injured Bowie off of the field. Bowie supposedly said, “Colonel Crain, I do not think, under the circumstances, you ought to have shot me.”
6.5 Creedmoor Pistol: Just Because You Can…
Published: February 19, 2022 { 9 comments }I am very excited this week to bring you a science experiment a year in the making! Thanks to some willing donors of time and effort, we have brought to life a Frankenstein Monster. Like many of you, I had entirely too much time on my hands at the peak of the Bat Flu scare, aka China Coof syndrome. My brain turned to crazy ideas, and I started wondering why we have AR-15 pistols, but not AR-10 pistols?
RAD Training with Crimson Trace at Gunsite
Published: February 19, 2022 { 0 comments }When I heard that Crimson Trace had come out with a new line of red dot sights, their Rapid Aiming Dots (RAD), it made complete sense to me. After all, Crimson Trace has been in the firearm laser and light business for decades, and in more recent years has introduced their scope lines, so adding electronics into optics to get new electronic sights seems to be the natural progression.
