Fitting and Finishing a Wood Rifle Stock on an Original 1895 Winchester

Fitting and Finishing a Wood Rifle Stock on an Original 1895 Winchester

Recently, I had a rather interesting project come my way from GunsAmerica’s own True Pearce. Mr. Pearce had an original Winchester 1895 rifle, chambered in 30-40 Krag that needed a new stock fitted to it. Fitting a wood stock would seem to be something of an “old school” gunsmithing task in today’s world of synthetic stocks, drop-in parts, and buffer tube-mounted collapsible stocks. But it is surprisingly relevant to the hobby gunsmith of today.

SIG FCU Build Take 1

SIG FCU Build Take 1

The FCU’s have been flowing for some time now, I know. But I wanted my first build to be something magical, and that has taken time to source parts for. Finally, everything came together this week. I, for one, think it was worth the wait.

Projekt 457 – Part I

Projekt 457 – Part I

The Vudoo was out of my price range and I was impresses by the 457 so I set out to see how far I could go to make the 457 challenge the Vudoo.

TaTargets Silhouettes

The Best of Steel Targets? Featuring TaTargets AR550 Silhouettes

For those who have had the opportunity to shoot somewhere besides a public gun range, you have most likely scrounge around looking for targets minutes before leaving. My homemade steel targets would constantly need to be repaired or replaced and would allow a dangerous amount of spalling to fly in all directions. That is why back in 2018 I started researching steel targets.

Clay’s Garage Sale Guns #1- Carcano Paratrooper?

Have you ever made an impulse purchase that was way out of your wheelhouse, but it looked like such a good deal you had to go for it? Me neither. Okay, that isn’t actually true. But just because I make a serious, serious mistake doesn’t mean I don’t write about it on the internet. So that others may learn. Or have a good laugh. Or maybe both this time.

The Terrapin X Rangefinder; Updated

The Terrapin X Rangefinder; Updated

Today I’m covering their Terrapin X rangefinder, which a few of you may have heard about because it launched in 2018. From what I know, this rangefinder is currently Vectronix’s only item marketed to civilians. Even though it isn’t new to the market, I recently got one and thought it review-worthy because of recent updates to its Bluetooth connectivity and compatibility with popular ballistic apps that most long-range shooters already use.

Ruger 10/22 Charger - The Ultimate Donor Gun? Reviewed

Ruger 10/22 Charger – The Ultimate Donor Gun? Reviewed

This week is a bit of an odd duck, as we rather intentionally bought a gun we intend to look nothing like factory in just a few weeks. But since we do have it, we thought why not take a look at it as it sits. We mean of course the Ruger 10/22 Charger, the red headed step child of rimfires.

From Boise with Love; Palouse-Lite Lower

With all the shenanigans going on in Washington, this is a really good time to invest some coin in lower receivers. Even if you don’t plan on a build right now, one never knows what the future will hold

6.5 Creedmoor Pistol: Just Because You Can…

I am very excited this week to bring you a science experiment a year in the making! Thanks to some willing donors of time and effort, we have brought to life a Frankenstein Monster. Like many of you, I had entirely too much time on my hands at the peak of the Bat Flu scare, aka China Coof syndrome. My brain turned to crazy ideas, and I started wondering why we have AR-15 pistols, but not AR-10 pistols?
