Bushmaster BA30: Straight-Pull Bolt Action — SHOT Show 2026

in Mitchell Graf, SHOT Show 2026

The Bushmaster BA30 blends a straight-pull bolt action with AR-10 controls, creating a sub-MOA rifle that uses widely available AR components. Instead of leaning on a traditional turn-bolt layout, Bushmaster built the BA30 around familiar AR ergonomics while keeping it legally classified as a bolt-action rifle.

MSRP around $1,800.

The straight-pull system uses a spring-forward action that speeds up cycling compared to traditional bolt actions. Combined with ambidextrous controls and AR-10 parts compatibility, the BA30 targets shooters who want bolt-gun accuracy with a more modern feel.

A Bolt Action That Feels Familiar

Bushmaster designed the BA30 as a straight-pull bolt action, but it doesn’t behave like a traditional bolt gun. Instead of a rotating bolt handle, the BA30 uses a rearward pull with a spring-forward return. Pull it back, release, and the action drives itself forward to chamber the next round.

That design keeps the rifle classified as a bolt action while speeding up follow-up shots. The bolt handle uses a spring-and-plunger system that resets during feeding, then locks the round into the chamber. Primary extraction relies on simple leverage once the handle returns forward.

The handle itself is narrow but extended enough to grab easily. It can also be swapped to the opposite side in the field with no tools. Ambidextrous use is clearly part of the design. As a right-handed shooter, running the handle on the left meant I could stay on the gun and cycle the action without breaking position.

The upper is cut so the charging handle can be used on either the left or right hand side.

AR-10 Parts Compatibility

One of the BA30’s defining traits is its AR-10 compatibility. The rifle uses AR-10 fire control components, and even the barrel can be sourced from standard AR-10 offerings. That opens the door for easier customization and parts availability compared to many proprietary bolt guns.

Bushmaster manufactures the rifle in the USA, including its own lower receiver. The lower features a flared magwell, which helps with quicker, cleaner reloads.

Folding Stock and Practical Storage

The BA30 ships with a B5 Systems stock that includes a folding mechanism. Folded, the rifle stores compactly and avoids awkward protrusions. The bolt handle and folded stock sit at roughly the same profile, so nothing jabs into packs or cases.

This setup makes the rifle easier to transport, especially for hunters or shooters who prioritize compact storage.

The AFT end of the rifle features a Picatinny mount, which can be used to mount various stocks such as this one from B5.

Calibers, Suppressor, and Pricing

Bushmaster plans to release the BA30 initially in 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Winchester. Other calibers remain unconfirmed.

The rifle is expected to ship in Q2 with an estimated MSRP between $1,800 and $2,000. Alongside it, Bushmaster plans to release a direct-thread suppressor priced around $800. The suppressor uses Inconel 625 and features a high-temperature coating designed to handle heat and reduce signature.

While the BA30 has been around for some time, recent updates keep it relevant. Its blend of straight-pull speed, AR-10 familiarity, and compact storage still sets it apart in a crowded bolt-action market.
