We got our hands on the SAR21 (Singapore Assault Rifle 21st century) from ST Engineering during range day, and we left with big smiles. This rifle is built in a bullpup configuration, mimicking the Steyr AUG that many of us are familiar with. However, this gun is not the same.
Because the SAR21 is a bullpup, this means that the trigger is located in front of the action. This allows for an overall shorter design while using less material; making it compact and lightweight.
When we used it at the range, I noticed that the trigger was a lot better than I expected, maybe in the five-pound range. The recoil was soft and less vertical than the typical rifle, thanks to its bullpup design. Overall, it was a great experience.
The SAR21 fires 5.56x45mm NATO from a closed bolt design and is charged with a non-reciprocating charging handle. Max firing rate ranges from 450-650 RPM while full-auto and semi-auto firing modes are selectable with the safety. Another bonus to the design is how it uses regular AR-style magazines that can be bought nearly anywhere.
This gun comes with a permanently attached 1.5x optical scope but features integrated back-up iron sights. This scope comes zeroed from the factory, but can be adjusted by the user.
This rifle is not available for purchase in the US yet, but ST Engineering is prepping the way for it to be imported as a semi auto version. For when we can purchase it, the SAR21 is available in 4 different variants, two of which feature an AR-style handguard that can accept attachments. Other’s feature a 1913 Picatinny rail instead of a scope, for which you can mount your preferred optic.

Singapore is a very restrictive place to live. They don’t even let their own citizens possess any type of firearms. One can go to jail for spitting on the sidewalk or even chewing gum in public. Even if they offered this in semi auto only and was available in the US, They can keep it.
Actually you can own a gun in SG, but it must be kept at the gun range. Also, SG is just a small island that is actually smaller than Ft. Worth, TX, and there is basically no crime when compared to USA. Lastly, national service is required for all SG males at 18yrs old, and lasts 2yrs. After national service SG males will continue in a reserve status sort of similar to USA with ongoing training/service every year.
It is perplexing how folks come to conclusions based of misinformation, but hey it’s USA.
In my imagination, when we take back our country from the libs and go full 2nd Amendment, I might own one.
Teasing us with yet another gun we mere peasants cannot own
what countries can you own a full auto gun in?
You CAN own a full auto weapon in most of the united states, just not if it was made post 1986 !
Did He just call that an Assault Rifle ? He does not know His gun lingo!!!!
Oh but he does. The single feature that defines an assault weapon is the ability to deliver fully automatic fire.
If thats the Select fire version, they are correct in calling it an assault rifle. However the specifications list is different that just about everything the rep said haha. He said, Proprietary mags, 18.5″ barrel and 2.5k price what did I miss?
