This just in, Trump has ordered the Department of Justice to ban bump stocks and other modifications like the ones allegedly used in the Las Vegas shooting.
ATF, which reports to the DOJ, is currently reviewing whether bump stocks should be reclassified as “machine guns” under the National Firearms Act.
What’s not exactly clear is how the president is able to create a law that bans these devices. One would think that this would be a job for the legislative branch.
Further complicating the matter is that the ATF has said on two separate occasions, once in 2010 and then again in 2012, that bump stocks are a “firearm part,” not a machine gun (or a firearm part whose sole purpose is to convert semiautos into full autos). Therefore, they’re not to be regulated as an NFA item.
Additionally, the DOJ told the NY Times back in December that banning reciprocating stocks would not be likely “without Congressional action.” Lawmakers have introduced legislation to prohibit bump stocks and trigger cranks and other accessories but it has not yet cleared either chamber.
Details on this story are still developing. Stay tuned for updates. I’m not sure what to make of this until I get all the facts. Could be fake news. Could be the beginning of something crazy…

BREAKING: President Trump directs Justice Department to ban gun modifications like bump stocks used in Las Vegas massacre.
— The Associated Press (@AP) February 20, 2018
UPDATE: Below is the official memo from the president:
Presidential Memorandum on the Application of the Definition of Machinegun to “Bump Fire” Stocks and Other Similar Devices
After the deadly mass murder in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 1, 2017, I asked my Administration to fully review how the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives regulates bump fire stocks and similar devices.
Although the Obama Administration repeatedly concluded that particular bump stock type devices were lawful to purchase and possess, I sought further clarification of the law restricting fully automatic machineguns.
Accordingly, following established legal protocols, the Department of Justice started the process of promulgating a Federal regulation interpreting the definition of “machinegun” under Federal law to clarify whether certain bump stock type devices should be illegal. The Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was published in the Federal Register on December 26, 2017. Public comment concluded on January 25, 2018, with the Department of Justice receiving over 100,000 comments.
Today, I am directing the Department of Justice to dedicate all available resources to complete the review of the comments received, and, as expeditiously as possible, to propose for notice and comment a rule banning all devices that turn legal weapons into machineguns.
Although I desire swift and decisive action, I remain committed to the rule of law and to the procedures the law prescribes. Doing this the right way will ensure that the resulting regulation is workable and effective and leaves no loopholes for criminals to exploit. I would ask that you keep me regularly apprised of your progress.
You are authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register.
DONALD J. TRUMP
UPDATE: 2/22/17
When in doubt about the president’s position. Just look to Twitter! There you will find the answers. President Trump on Thursday articulated his positions on gun control and arming teachers in the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting.
First the bad news. Trump is pushing for “comprehensive background checks with an emphasis on mental health,” which is presumably another name for the Fix NICS Act. That’s not so bad. What sucks is that he supports Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s bill to block persons under the age of 21 from buying long guns. Moreover, Trumpster also wants to ban bump stocks (as noted above).
I will be strongly pushing Comprehensive Background Checks with an emphasis on Mental Health. Raise age to 21 and end sale of Bump Stocks! Congress is in a mood to finally do something on this issue – I hope!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 22, 2018
While none of that will stop the next school shooting, Trump did say that he supports arming teachers. Not all teachers, but some. A common sense approach that may not be appropriate for all school districts but would certainly work for many.
I never said “give teachers guns” like was stated on Fake News @CNN & @NBC. What I said was to look at the possibility of giving “concealed guns to gun adept teachers with military or special training experience – only the best. 20% of teachers, a lot, would now be able to
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 22, 2018
….immediately fire back if a savage sicko came to a school with bad intentions. Highly trained teachers would also serve as a deterrent to the cowards that do this. Far more assets at much less cost than guards. A “gun free” school is a magnet for bad people. ATTACKS WOULD END!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 22, 2018
What’s been getting a lot of airtime as of late is Trump’s speech at the 2016 NRA Convention. Remember what Trump said to the thousands in attendance and the millions watching at home after the NRA officially endorsed the billionaire business magnate for president?
“I will not let you down. Remember that. I will not let you down,” said Trump.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m feeling a bit let down this week. Your thoughts? Oh, and it appears Chris and Wayne are ready to fall in line and do the “right thing” for America.
What many people don’t understand, or don’t want to understand, is that Wayne, Chris and the folks who work so hard at the @NRA are Great People and Great American Patriots. They love our Country and will do the right thing. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 22, 2018
Maybe President Trump should review some of the reasons George Bush was only a one term President. He broke his campaign promises concerning firearm bans. He broke his promises and the pro-gun citizens responded and he did not get reelected. Just another politician entering waters he knows nothing about and is siding with the liberal left. If a bump stock restriction becomes a reality and no compensation is rendered for a turn in of private property then Trump is history in my books. The NRA is already history. I am an Endowment Life member but will cease to provide any more money to an organization that gives away my 2nd Amendment right piece by piece.
I want to know why the organization that begs for your dollars so they can fight this type of action is not up in arms letting Mr. Trump know he will not go unscaved by this action and withdrawing support for him on all levels, for making a promises’ to the people of an organization that also has turned against us , I am speaking of the N.R.A. If all of the news is correct and not an attempt to turn people against Mr. Trump. I remember two things #1 Trump was a Democrat (like Pelosi) & #2 The promise I HAVE YOU BACKS ( did he mean as a target ) until this event is settled I will be referring to him as Mr. Trump NOT Mr. President.
What about the many people that already have bump stocks? Are they going to give them their money back if Trump makes them illegal. These are considered as accessories and then next it will be ban scopes then silencers and on and on! This is not fair to those that have them for recreational purposes!
Why is this so hard? Metal detectors keep guns off of planes and would keep them out of schools. Without limiting ones rights. A pencil does not miss spell words. Guns are a tool, just like a pencil. I would prefer not to limit our rights anymore then they already are. Ar 15’s, bump stocks, even full auto’s are not the problem. If someone had a desire to go anywhere and hurt a lot of people there are many tools they could choose to use. Just consider a pump action shotgun loaded with buck shot in the hands of a person with a desire to cause harm, a semi auto 22, current legal fireworks shot horizontally, a car or a…. Do we ban all these things? I don’t want to see one more mass shooting. I will not get on board with limiting my rights on anything, because others will always want to take more. If everyone gets what they wants, no one gets what they want. I have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Guns in all forms make me happy, even if you don’t understand. They also provide a way to keep my life and liberty. Metal detectors keep guns off of plane and out of my local court house. They would work for schools. The police can’t respond with in seconds. My gun can respond at 1400 feet per second( or more depending on what one chooses). We should have the right to defend ourselves anyway we see fit. My rambling two cents. Treat others the way you want to be treated and we would all be just fine. Thank you for your time.
Thank-you Jeff, well said!
Really? Trump did’t call for the banning of anything, neither did the NRA. Quit sounding like liberal liars. What Trump said was he ordered the review of bump sticks, to be completed as soon as possible. The NRA stated the ATF should review bump stocks also. Knowing that the ATF has twice before determineded they were accessories & not a part that converts anything to full auto, seems to be a pretty smart decision. They say Russians have created fake gun groups pretending to be Americans, to influence our politics. This bunch if yawhoo’s sure do sound like they like to make shit up more than reporting accurately. Shame on gunsamerica for exploiting gun owners.
“Really? Trump did’t [sic] call for the banning of anything,”
“Today, I am directing the Department of Justice to dedicate all available resources to complete the review of the comments received, and, as expeditiously as possible, to propose for notice and comment a rule banning all devices that turn legal weapons into machineguns.”
I love to see the Trumpettes squirm when they realize he’s not the Messiah. Trump goes where the wind blows him. Don’t you remember, he was a Democrat and donated to Clinton’s campaign.
CCL holder here, and a strict constructionist, a bumpstock is NOT a firearm, is a dangerous useless POS to everyone. Trump called for the DOJ ot review it and ban it as they see fit. Trump goes where anyone with the sense to pour piss from a boot, with the directions clearly written on the sole, should go!!!
First off the gun is not fully automatic,so you cannot call it that. You can get the same effect with a string. I have done it. Second. It is a proven fact that full auto small arms are not accurate. It is very hard to hit your target. That is why the military changed to three round burst. A semi auto is far more deadly than a full auto rifle. Fact people. Just hire armed guards.
FYI: The military M4’s are back to full auto. No more burst option.
Sincerely,
SSG – U.S. Army
Im not commenting on the infringement of our rights, after reading the comments my thoughts went to what what it look like. All the talk about militia and defending freedom against tyrany led me to this alternative logic not being discussed here. If we were truly gathered up as citizens defending our nation from Tyranny and any sory of oppressive government or threat including an alien invasion human or otherwise. I would 100% have wished for there to be no bump stock weilding weapons or owners on my line. Shooters trained to aim and fire each round accurately and controlled, conserve ammo and are more effective at hitting their targets thus neutralizing threats. Ever see an average ak weilding 3rd world countryman spraying lead and emptying an entire magazine in full auto with the weapon held sideways or at the hip away from their body no shouldering no cheekweld and no steady aiming even looking down the sights of the rifle. That is not the type of rifleman I want on my line so in the end if there were no bump stocks anymore wouldnt our country’s defenders be much better off conserving ammo and having spent more time training to shoot accurately and aiming. A nation of bumpstockers hurts the true intent of the 2nd amendment how will we defend ourselves in this manner. Would you want 2 generations who play hours of video games and watching movies where you never run out of ammo to suddenly be in a defense situation and their life experience is to unload mags with no account for ammo or controlled fire? In this odd way of thinking real shooters should easily condemn bumpstocks as a weakening of our nations potential defenders. Its not that we should be able to own them its about if we ever needed our weapons for defending oursleves would you want people acclimated in this fashion or raised and trained to always shoot propperly . Increasing national shooting intelligence is a win for 2A defenders in a real threat and use scenario. Im saying take this concept far out and as real as you can imagine. Full auto fire is not a real world advantage for militia infanty. our own military is switching to single fire rifles. A SAW is used for suppressive fire, my argument goes out the window I guess if you had a 150rd plus belt fed weapon with a bumpstock but I havent seen many of those.
Shooting is fun. Shooting with bumpstocks is fun too. So banning them will solve what problem exactly? Ban the gun and you won’t have to worry about loss of ammo or accuracy.
Opposing restrictions on bump stocks will be like giving the gun-banners a gallon of gasoline to throw on the emotionally-driven hysteria endemic to the ignorant masses. If you’re honest about it, bump stocks are not needed, nor wanted, by the vast majority of gun owners. By “tossing them a bone,” we can point to it and say that we are willing to compromise and are being reasonable…… you are not!
Totally agree. Bump stocks are not needed, and background checks should be required. I really don’t understand why it’s easier to get a gun than get a drivers license. If we could agree on some measures to make it harder for a felon or unstable person to get a gun, maybe “they”would stop trying to ban specific items like AK’s. That seems silly to ban a specific type of gun since they are all lethal. As are cars, knives, …beach balls (ask me how)…
Suggestions for making it harder for felon or mental defective? When you figure a way to secure every car and home from braking and entering let Me know. I want one! I would like a FREE back round check system that can be called to check private sales. Still won’t stop anything though. Would make me sleep better knowing I didn’t intentionally contribute to the problem. Still Vegas shooter passed one….
I do agree every first time gun buyer should have some sort of test/ training.
Gun grabbers don’t care what kind of gun it is. They want them all. Extremists on both side make it impossible to meet a sensible understanding. Not sure there is such a thing as a sensible extremist…. OH Wait “THE FOUNDING FOUNDERS”?!!?
I thought the same thing. There are so many apps out there, how about a app, free, for a smartphone that has a face link to NICS and or the NCIS systems. No background information given out to us, just a yes or no whether someone is eligible to own a firearm. Gun shows would be no problem and personal sales would be checked in case something went wrong. Our check of the person would be on file. But that is probably way to simple and people that want absolutely no change will have a fit. I am not talking about restricting anything, I am talking about fixing the current system and making it more usable for all of us legal gun owners.
Throw them a bone and they have a taste for meat. They want the entire cow one bite at a time. The bump stock is just the start, because we the gun owners are in disagreement about the need for them. Perfect starting point. The only “reasonable” thing the anti-gunners want is all scary guns gone. That way no one will be hurt or killed ever again. OUR (yours and mine) rights shouldn’t have to be compromised do to ignorant fear. I don’t think the Government is out to get me. I do think politicians will do anything to get face time and appease the loudest complainer.
Most all US politicians are corporate liberals and elitist globalist hucksters. False opposition Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Levin, Ingrahm and FOX News are there to provide the illusion of a “Two Party” system. Trump might have been a bit different in NIOV. 2016, but he is now falling in line.
Wow ‘Winston’ I’ll call you on it. If there was ONE person, just ONE, that could be considered as being THE VOICE of the American Conservative, it’s without ANY doubt whatsoever Rush Limbaugh! Period, END OF STORY. Rush is THE guy that is dedicated to making ANY SENSE of this world (of politics especially). He has NO ‘horse’ in the race of politics, but only wants to see America survive…wholly and intact. He’s a believer in “doing the right thing”, and I mean “fair and equal” thing, not the Right vs Left. Rush has dedicated his life to being fair and impartial, a Constitutional conservative, TOTALLY UNLIKE ANY HOST of other ‘news’ outlets or “talk” shows, even the ones’ you’ve named above. I might even AGREE with you on most. Levin also is a scholar of sorts along the same vein. The reason you’d lump Rush in with those others is beyond me EXCEPT for the fact “I really don’t believe you’ve ACTUALLY “listened” to what he’s saying”. As for “most politicians” being sell-outs and elitists, RIGHT ON. Most are in it for themselves and may START their careers with ‘good’ intentions but the POLITICAL MACHINE IN WASHINGTON HAS GOTTEN SO OUT OF CONTROL, it’s a run-away train and IMHO….CANNOT BE STOPPED! And I am no pessimist either, actually an optomist…but i do believe the monster has been created and has evolved into an ALL-CONSUMING people eater where the ONLY thing that feeds it IS the almighty dollar, that’s it…
Limbaugh should be IN JAIL — charged with trafficking in controlled substances (narcotics) and conspiracy to traffic.
Appearances tend to make us look foolish, but it’s the realities that get us in trouble, especially when that reality involves children! We should have seen this coming, but relied on organizations we trusted to be smarter than us. Organizations that should have been the ones calling for better enforcement of existing laws, suggesting loopholes that needed closing, and opposing things like bump stocks that were obviously bound to make us all look bad. This school shooting will be followed by others, and each one will result in additional restrictions on gun ownership and use, so we should be at the forefront of the call for action, but common sense action that will work to stop this madness before we lose all of our rights.
We all know that additional gun laws will not stop a determined individual intent on causing mayhem, but that is exactly what we are going to get, and then there will be another shooting, and they will restrict rights even further, and etc. because the obvious solution is expensive and the MASSIVE tax cuts given to Corporations and the Wealthy by the Corporate puppets we pay taxes to support, were intended to allow those puppets to justify future cuts to social programs, including school funding!
The only thing that will immediately insure the safety of school children is the same thing that made air travel safe after 9/11. Metal detectors and screeners to control access. These would make it virtually impossible for anyone to get any type of firearm into a school, and take a lot of heat off the politicians who pretend to represent our interests!
Medal detectors and armed soldiers won’t stop a determined nut job from anything! Reality is we can all go at anytime! That is a horrible true reality. Some think they have control of that, which is part of the issue. I want my child to be as safe as he can be. Gun restriction won’t help that at this point. The sicko will just pull the fire alarm and mow the defenseless down with a vehicle.
Mental health back round checks won’t work and will only cause decent people courtroom drama. When someone that doesn’t agree with our gun ownership makes up a lie and calls authorities -who will be bound to remove my firearms to protect their own liability. Don’t worry you might get them all back with proof that everyone was purchased with a comprehensive back round check not handed down, given to you, or bought from someone you trust. As well as every one gets logged into a data base for future reference! I also hope you didn’t miss any rule change over the course of a lifetime that could make one of those guns considered illegal. A magazine you forgot held 15 instead of 10, a flash hider not pinned, pistol grip, or any of the newest rules that do nothing to stop anyone from being harmed. The judge will be required to hand down a felony sentence on you. Illegal search and seizure will cause gun owners major issues. But go ahead and compromise if you want to, I just hope no one has anything against you( disgruntled ex wife, employee, coworker, neighbor, person you bumped your shopping cart into at the supermarket, etc)
Trump, nor any of these politicians, on either side of the aisle care about being able to defend themselves or their families because we taxpayers are providing that protection for them. They were willing to let us have our toys as long as they didn’t have to take any heat over it, but now that Corporate contributors are pulling support, we are likely to be thrown under the proverbial bus!
I knew Trump was going to be a turncoat at the first sign of controversy, but now he sounds like he wants to come across as a champion of gun control!
Most of you guys are missing the boat on all this. And Im referring to those of you who claim they will tear up their NRA membership or vote democrat because they don’t like (understand) what they are hearing. Disrespect on the NRA, really? Geez… good luck finding and joining another pro 2nd Amendment organization who has the financial clout to take on the billions of Dollars Bloomberg funnels into the Anti-gun propaganda machine. When you find them, let me know and Ill join. The NRA is our best friend, period. And by the way, Trump is political genius with what he is doing! Think about it… He is throwing them a bump stock bone and they love it. Plus the larger people crowd see him taking action against his “bread and butter” base (us gun guys) Lucky for us, the left are idiots about guns and they don’t know that his compromise is only pissing off about ten people who might actually care about bump stock. (but let’s pretend we care more…wink wink) This is all a political diversion. He is making the left feel like they are getting a win and more importantly, taking the focus off any assault rifle bans. Lastly, I don’t believe any of us have an issue with the age being raised to 21 (exception to Military) and we really do need a better solution to addressing the mentally unstable. Last thing, please don’t come back and say “Give an inch they want a mile.” we know that is nonsense. Just ask my wife who is still waiting for the other 5279 ft 10 inches.
Safe shooting!
Seat belts!!! Started with Car seats for infants with a vote of the people. Then boosters for toddlers without a vote. Then everyone must wear one without a vote. Then a cop can pull me over if at a combined speed of 70mph he sees you’re not wearing one just to check for other violations. Start small, foot in the door, give a inch, call it what you want. Didn’t have to tell you- you already said it. Unions, Insurance, The list goes on! Keep your head in the sand.
I get what Trump is doing and I agree he is playing the political game.He has to save face but we don’t and shouldn’t give up anything. We stand up for ourselves because Trump and the NRA are forced to play to the entire public, not just gun owners. I think the NRA is still the best thing going but i don’t like that they’re willing to give up anything I may enjoy.
The debate for Assault weapons is just cranking up. Early to say what will happen long term.
Changing the age is a little sticky — hard to tell an 18 year old he can’t buy a rifle but he can be drafted and given one to point at our enemies. I’m not saying that I don’t agree that your average 18yo kid these days isn’t mature enough to be trusted with guns but if we conclude that is the case then we have to adjust the selective service age as well.
Kind of like you can go kill for your country but you can’t buy alcohol? Ask Vietnam veterans and many veterans now. They can die for their country but when they come home, they are children again in the eyes of the law. that argument never goes away.
Why are my comments being moderated?
Because you’re not towing the line.
Trump will deal himself out of a second term if he thinks he can make deals with the Second Amendment. Instead of infringing upon our unalienable right to keep and bear arms, why not ban the prescribing of psychotropic drugs to adolescent males. Beginning with the Columbine boys, all of the school shooters had Big Pharma’s psychotropic drugs coursing through their veins before they pulled the trigger (and no bump stocks were used). One of the major side-effects of these mind-altering drugs is homicidal thoughts. But since D. C. politicians’ re-election campaigns are financed by Big Pharma, as is the advertising on the evening network news, they won’t be biting the hand that feeds them any time soon. After all, it is so much easier to blame an inanimate object like a gun than than to accept the fact that our society has a problem with responsible parenting and the irresponsible use of these dangerous prescription drugs.
Amen. Finally someone has started the dialog that is correct. We have an entire generation of kids and young adults who are zombied out on pills. Please Mr. Trump, make this a priority.
While I agree that this dangerous flip-flop on 2A could make a lot of us say no to a second Trump term, it’s not another Republican we would be ushering in but a Democrat. It won’t be a 3rd party candidate. How much better will that be????
I have kids that will soon be going off to college. It’s bad enough that they can’t buy a pistol to protect themselves from real criminals. Now they want to make It so that they can’t have a firearm until they’re 21. Then quit letting them vote and join the military and put their lives on the line. Might as well say they’re not an adult until they’re 21 if that’s how you’re going to go about things. Far is Bump stocks this is total BS. I haven’t said anything about the president striking back when people start crap with him but now he wants to give in. He told the gun Community not to worry but it looks like he lied. That’s fine go ahead with these unconstitutional laws and you’ll make sure that you’re just a one-term president
So much for his campaign pledge to hold the line on the Second Amendment. Was is it about “shall not be infringed” do Washington politicians not understand? Trump just stepped onto a slippery slope. The anti-American left cannot be appeased and will use every means possible to violate the Second Amendment and disarm the American people. After all, how can their impose their collectivist, totalitarian agenda with “bitter clingers” standing in their way? Like the first shot heard round the world, when the anti-American thugs come for our Second Amendment and our guns, it will be time to refresh the tree of liberty. “Molon labe!”
Soon you won’t be able to say that out loud. Someone may take it as a threat and with an immediate disarm be local law enforcement. Then you’ll be facing a judge and mental review board set up by the Government. Or worse private sector with financial gain to be had.
I don’t think we are there, but I do not like the way we’re heading.
Seems like a stupid thing to quit the NRA just because of a bump stock ban. Personally, I don’t see much use for them, but to each his own. The NRA has fought good fights for us and is still the biggest, loudest, meanest supporter of the 2nd amendment – no matter what their stance on bump stocks. If I had to go to court, I would want the biggest, loudest, meanest attorney I could get. If they cave on this … well … maybe the NRA blinked, but lets face it … SOMETHING is going to have to be given on this one. I don’t want that, but SOMETHING has to be sacrificed. If it’s only bump stocks, then I personally don’t care. If it’s raising the age for rifle purchases to 21, well … if we feel an 18 yr old is responsible enough to enlist in the ARMY and give them M4s, M240s, etc. and put them into battle killing people in foreign lands, it seems kind of stupid why we can’t believe they will be responsible in a civilian life. If its more detailed back ground checks, then someone please tell me HTF that is going to work. If you ain’t on the no-buy list, all you have to do is lie about mental health, domestic violence or a felony. … Stupid #2.
Its a sign of the times people. Bad people are going to keep doing bad things with semi auto rifles and our rights are going to get attacked. I’m somewhat amazed that an attempt at an executive order banning semi autos wasn’t signed immediately after Vegas. But that was because Trump is in the WH. We can yell out all we want and threaten not to send money to the NRA or quit our membership etc., but NO ONE is going to hear us unless we VOTE. That is really your only true power beyond starting a revolution. And what … we’re going to start a revolution over a bump stock ban? …please.
If you don’t like what Trump does in response to this, then VOTE for someone else. It’s that simple.
I agree somewhat but to the Idiots in Ca. Like Finestiene and. Pelossi who don’t know anything about guns, I listened to the video of the Las Vegas shooting and is sounded like s begotten fed rifle not a bump stock. My opinion is that we need to make tougher laws for these shootings in gun free zones. Everyone knows the Florida Shooter is Guiltily So lets give a speedy trial then take him downtown and do a live broadcast nationwide and hang him and tell these murders this is what happens now you’re now gonna go to prison and milk the tax payers for the rest of your pathetic life. All these killings is only hurting the law abiding citizens by trying to ban guns.
A lot don’t see the need for ar-15’s as they are target shooters, clay shooters, etc. We must stand for all, or we will lose it all piece by piece.
Well said ‘D Day Dog’, YOU and Max take TOP HONORS for best posts. The country is in a WORLD of hurt, and so many complex issues; this is but ONE battle in a long war of many issues in which our country is drowning. Our country is TOO POLARIZED and honestly (Not to be a pessimist), I TRULY BELIEVE OUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED. Any Christian, will believe the same as Scripture tells us that very thing. So, that being said..”Praise the Lord and pass the ammo…”
Hello, all, just a diatribe to remind everyone we are all on the Wrong Narrative. The situation regarding firearms is one catalyst of action for the underlying problem within society – failure to actively address the growing prevalence of mental illness, and the ongoing growth of our population that has relied on what is left of a former strong, yet flawed structure of mental health treatment.
Consider:
September 5, 1949, Howard Unruh, a paranoid schizophrenic kills 13 in Camden, NJ. Insane Asylums (totally politically incorrect term these days) were abundant and always accepting new admissions. Unruh slipped through the cracks.
August 1, 1966, Charles Whitman atop the bell tower at the University of Texas in Austin. 14 killed, 31 injured. Whitman suffered from untreated MENTAL ILLNESS. Insane Asylums were still abundant and always accepting new admissions. Whitman slipped through the cracks as well.
January 29, 1979, Brenda Spencer kills 2 and injures 9 at the Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, CA. She did it because she “Didn’t like Mondays”, a big part of her MENTAL ILLNESS, where Insane Asylums existed and she fell through the cracks as well.
July 18, 1984, James Oliver Huberty kills 21 in San Ysidro, CA. August 20, 1986, Pat Sherrill “goes Postal” and kills 14 before killing himself in Edmond, OK. Insane Asylums are now called Mental Health Centers, but, they still exist and are taking new patients.
October 16, 1991, Killeen Texas suffers 23 kills by George Hennard before he kills himself. And, of course, April 20, 1999 Eric and Dylan kill 13 at Columbine High School in Littletton, Co. Mental Health facilities are waning greatly in numbers, Federal and State funds are deeply cut by now and not all Mental Health Centers are accepting new patients because they’re at capacity.
Fast forward to 2007, where even fewer mental heath facilities exist. 2 mass shootings. 2009, 3 mass shootings. 1 in 2010, 2 in 2011, 3 in 2012, 3 in 2013, 3 in 2014, 6 in 2015, 2 in 2016 . . . and on, and on, and on.
More prescriptions for “conditions”, ADD/HD, ADHD, Bi-Polar Disorder, PTSD, psychotropics galore for all of your ills! See a Doc, get a pill. BUT, nowhere to go if you’re unable to follow that Doctor’s directions, everywhere that used to be there are long gone, abhorrently full to capacity, or skewed and screwed, like, we will put you in a nursing home with the elderly and let you loose upon them. Or filling jails to capacity because there’s nowhere else to put the defectives! Sure, Bellvue and a few other titans of mental care are still out there, but, they’re understaffed, underfunded and incapable of keeping up with the needs of a ever growing and deeply morally deficient society.
I challenge you to go ask an old cop or an old mental health professional about the “old” days. How easy it used to be to identify a problem within our society and then isolate them. The Deinstitutionalization movement began in earnest in the 1960s and here we are today. Methinks its time to consider Reinstitutionalizations and figure out the best way to run and fund Mental Institutions, Orphanages and Sanitariums. And then, we fill them.
And regarding the adjustments to the 2nd Amendment, Don’t forget ALL citizens need effective and proper ways of utilizing the 2nd to ensure they are able to preserve their 3rd Amendment rights at all times, by all means necessary. Anybody care to address the fact that there were an original 10 attached to the Constitution, all of which were EQUALLY important, which eventually grew to a list of 27, all of which were again, of either equal or even greater importance. Leave the document and the inherent rights contained therein alone. The Constitution is NOT a living, breathing document that needs constant revisiting, it is a CORNERSTONE in which to build a great society.
Adjust the narrative towards the deeper roots of any issue, follow the money, exercise your rights, and make ready for what is yet to come!
Be safe, and God Bless!
EXCELLENT post Max! Have to say, for content and specifics…you nailed it. It’s far too complex to be able to include ALL that’s ‘WRONG’ with today’s society and issues, but you included the foundation and roots which is most often over-looked. Well done…
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission banned lawn darts. This agency will used to ban Bump stocks , High capacity magazines etc
Legally the DOJ can’t change shit congress would have to rewrite the law defining what is a machine gun because bump stocks still manually pull the trigger for each shot !!!
And President Trump knew that! That’s why he worded the directive to the DOJ the way he did! “Ban any device that turns a legal semi auto into a machine gun”. He knows that this directive will change NOTHING about owning bump fire stocks or binary triggers because they both require one trigger pull per round fired!
Remember, in Washington, words have meaning. Once again, Trump proves that he is smarter than all of the Liberals put together and sadly, some gun owners, as well. Semper Fidelis, Robin .
Why do you have to approve a comment left here? If it is to make sure it is R rated or less, great, if it is to control the content, more to the USSR.

Well Folks if you are still so set in your way of thinking try to free your mind. Me Shooter for over 52 years, CC long before many of you were born. I Love Guns, and I Love To Shoot. But, yes but, I have seen many a gun, ammo, mag control ruling or law over the years, and they really did not hurt me. So I support 21, and yes My Draft Number of 252 for Nam at the age of 18. I do not Like Governments of an kind or size, but we do need some rules or laws, and you all Know That. I like our FFL system which is Gun Control. Our so called Government Buildings are All No Guns Allowed, and most have darn good Live Security. Many things are not good in our USA, and most are caused by US, on the left and right, we are a big part of the problem. Free Your Mind, Please. 2nd Am is very important, but, yes again but, those wise freedom seekers were talking a time when we needed gun to hunt and protect ourselves. I do both with them today. They were also talking Black Power Firearms, thus they did not have a clue what life and we would be like today. Put that in your mind and smoke on it. Bumb Stocks, just Stupid they were allowed and you know it. Fun yes, and they work fairly well, but what do I need one for. If I want to Bump, Burst, or Climb The Pole I can do so with my Mac 9 or My MPA Mac 45. Yes I have and great fun, but if they bump to easy I replace the warn part as I want a truly reliable semi auto. It is time for All Of US to work together, and that includes The NRA who helped me get involved in firearms many many Moons Ago. Let us not have a conversation as Talk Is Cheap, and so many of US just want to say the same old same old. Let us have Some Action that will make US all safer. My PM40 Carry ain’t going help me much against and SKS, AK, AR, Mac, nope it will provide me with something better then my first, and I hope you get the picture as you could be the next person looking down the business end of heavy duty rifle. You ready for that, not me, I will be ducking first and shooting second. Free Your Mind, do not join the left or right Gangs in DC as they act like little kids, but then most of them are little men and ladies. Now I like Little People, My Grand Kids, and yes I have offered to help their schools with security, have you, has The NA, has DC, nope.
Dave, your comment is a bit too rambling to reply in detail but two things stick out. You will find your MP40 lacking in a western style mano-y-mano shootout in the middle of the street but, if you really know how to handle that pistol, you will have an excellent chance of taking out an ill-trained 19 year old when he is close to you and busy focusing on multiple targets other than you or looking away from you. Without your pistol you are just waiting and praying. When the founding fathers wrote the bill of rights the people had black powder firearms but guess what the assault weapon of the day was that equipped the army: black powder firearms. The founding fathers absolutely envisioned technology improving firearms and their intent was that the people be armed in a manner similar to the army. To be reasonable, tanks, fighter jets, heavy machine guns and cannons are now banned to civilians, but semi-automatic rifles and pistols are the absolute minimum arms that should be available to the general population to be able to act as even a minimally effective counter to the government.
I’d suggest watering down that moonshine, or hiding your keyboard when you are drinking.
Why would anyone not vote for Trump simply because they can’t make their AR 15 shoot faster? The bump stocks are ugly looking and does it really matter that you can shoot a little faster than semi-auto? The only other choice you would have is voting for a gun hating democrat. Boy that will really show Trump and other Republicans where you stand. God help Us.
I agree on the bump stock and trigger modifications to fire in full auto. I tried them both, and to be honest, it’s just a waste of ammo. I fired full auto select fire as well. And yes, I’ll agree at first it’s quite an exciting experience, but after that, it just didn’t make sense to be wasting so much ammo. It’s the same reason why M-16’s no longer have the full auto selection, and instead they now have safe-fire-tri-burst. I would also agree that long guns should also be purchased by 21 year old adults, and not 18. Implementing an automatic update to the NICS system when a person has been dishonorably discharged from the armed forces, as well as those that enter a mental health facility and found to be mentally unfit.
We should also have metal detectors implemented in high schools and school safety guards that are trained and armed to respond to any threats with deadly physical force.
Spot on, Joe, thanks. I suspect you have too much common sense for some posers here ….
Right on..Bumpy stock are inacurate ammo wasters..
The 400 hp engine in my car is a gas waster but I enjoy it and don\’t need someone telling me what makes me happy.Start letting people tell other people what they can and can\’t own is a great way to end up in tyranny.
I am a Republican who will vote Democrat if Trump moves one inch toward gun control. I already dumped NRA and joined GOA. It seems when Democrats are in control the Republicans fight harder for 2nd Amendment…they only care about the appearance of supporting gun rights to get our votes. It’s a political game. It will be a Republican Judas Goat like Trump who will lead us down the path to gun control and we will one day wake up and say, “How did that happen?” No, it is time to turn the reigns back over to the Dem-Com’s and wake up the Republicans, NRA and and pro-second amendment advocates. Trump is a lying politician no different than the swamp he promised to clean. I accepted his crazy bullshit up until he back stabbed us on gun issue. That man just wants to be loved by everyone. Done with Trump, done with NRA. GOD Bless America and all those who have served her!!!
if you vote Democrat just to spite Republicans, well that is just dumb, yes God Bless America and to all who serve, that I agree with.
Way to go Early that will just get you to gun confiscation much earlier. (PUN INTENDED) I smell a poser here.
Hey ‘Early’, I hope you’ve had some time to REALLY THINK about what you’ve just said. “When MY side starts LOSING, or at least ‘looking like’ it’s losing…I’ll join the OTHER side, that’ll teach them a lesson!” The actions of a Traitor is how that looks. YOU, haven’t stopped to ACTUALLY REALLY THINK about WHERE you’ll end up…on the side of LIBERAL LEFTISTS? Really? HilLIARy, Bernie, BHO (the epitome of a PAWN for a modern day president), Pelosi, Feinstein and ALL the other ilk THAT SIDE harbors, really? Just the thought of you jumping ship would make ME think you NEVER were a conservative/Republican or an independent. There’s a lot more to this game of life than ‘guns, etc’ (AND I’M HARD-CORE 2A). To say “I’ll just switch” over the 1st ‘battle’ in a LONG, LONG WAR means you haven’t thought this through, and that goes for a LOT of commenters who share your ‘beliefs’. I’m as pissed off as the next guy but just to say “I’m outta here” when the going gets tough, well were you ever HERE to begin with?
There won’t be another chance to vote for trump.by this time next year he’ll be packing his bags.and we’ll have president pence and a demoncrap congress
I think we have been hoodwinked into thinking Trump is a conservative. He talks out of both sides of his mouth.
Hoodwinked?!? Not if you were paying attention.
What you perceive as hoodwinked is because you didn’t understand the man to begin with.
I knew he would do things like this, but when the alternative was considered, there was no other choice.
He’s a moderate, with conservative leanings, always was. He is also a player of the game of business and politics, and I think many here just don’t understand what that is.
President Trump is working to save your 2nd Amendment rights, Mike … in a highly emotion time where the anti-gun actif Bump stocks are not firearms but violate the intent of the “machine gun” regulation. They degrade accuracy and control … and frankly, in my opinion, are for posers.
Any mentally sound, law-abiding NRA member should be for fair and effective background checks, as law-breakers and the mentally ill have no Constitutional right to firearms.
Raising the age to purchase a firearm is not a problem. It merely means that a youth must receive a firearm from an adult that is then responsible for the action. That’s the way it’s done in the overwhelming majority of families anyway.
Administrators, teachers and vetted volunteers with access to guns on site have already saved lives in schools. President Trump is on solid ground with all four of his initiatives. He’s a practical, git’r done kind of leader.
If a person 18-21 can’t have a gun. Who do you think they will vote for? They have no interest in that fight and are less likely to fight for 2A rights. One little bit at a time- the “swamp” gets deeper. False educate the guns away! That will make us all safer. “TRUST ME….THE GOVERNMENT WILL TAKE CARE OF US”
That’s an interesting take, hadn’t thought of that angle.
Thanks.
If your not interested in firearms by the time your 18, chances are your not going to be. I was in to guns when I was 8 or so, My Brother gave me my first gun when I was 11.
with all the liberal teachers now days it’s a wonder kids even know what a firearm is.
They are black and scary as hell! Just kidding…..I couldn’t resist.
So Trump can’t find the authority to tell Sessions to prosecute Hillary and Obama. But he can find enough liberalism to tell him to ban gun rights.
Folks, you have just seen the final straw in the ILLUSION that was Trump. Next. Amnesty.
Now who are you going to vote for because you can’t have your bump stock. Hillary? or maybe you’ll just sit ant home and let some democrat take your guns because you can’t have a bump stock.
Give an INCH they’ll take a MILE! I got my first shotgun for my 18th birthday and bought my first .22lr with graduation money. My parents didn’t hunt or shoot. This proposed rule change would have prevented me from being able to learn how to hunt and shoot on my own. Love for the outdoors or shooting sports shouldn’t have to wait, if your considered an adult. Some sort of training program would actually be something that I support BUT who is going to pay for any of the costs associated to the new changes (back round checks-drug tests-mental evaluations )?
RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS THAT’S WHO! Why should we pay when “everyone” wants these changes according to the media and now the President? We all know how the government is at setting up effective computer systems or effective programs…
Bump stocks are novelty and a lot of fun! I could live without mine but why should I? “Because” someone might use one foolishly? A car, hammer, knife, fertilizer, rope, fuel, a gas line, sword, water supply, and the list goes on. Anything can be used to commit a mass killing! “Common sense” says we should tell people they can no longer have access or they must pass a back round check to have these items as well?!? Use actual common sense.
Stay calm, don’t give the perpetrators of these horrible acts the sensationalized publicity and the number of mass shootings would go down. Making rules and laws meant to appease fear and not to actually help based on reality or science is foolish. I thought our current POTUS has the highest IQ of all the Presidents? I hate being stuck in a political “Swamp”!
You said it. The bump stock is legal! Where in the gun hell do they get off trying to ban them. Lets ban cars and airplanes because someone might go nuts and kill people with them. This is dictatorship, and only we, have the right to change our constitution. The right to bear arms shall not be infringed! What word do they not understand? They already took away hundreds of our rights when they banned full auto back in the 30’s along with many laws that they had no right to enforce. I think gun owners have given up enough of our rights. If they pass it…..Who is going to pay us all back for these legal items and to pay to have gun shops to do the repairs? I know, lets charge the Dems.
Why do you need a full auto weapon? Sure their lots of fun to shoot, I’ve fired several of them, but who can afford the ammo?
The liberals have out birthed us. They now have the power to out vote us.
Well said! Bad folks will do bad things regardless of what weapon or improvised device they choose to use. I won’t suffer greatly if I lose my bump stock, but the point is we are losing our rights one bit at a time. That won’t really change the actions of the crazy folks out there, it will only make us more defenseless in the long term.
Well the NRA continues its enabling silence on the proposed Bump Stock Ban. They have not filed any law suits in New Jersey or other states were bans have been enacted or are being considered. Wayne Lapierre and Chris Cox are 100% to blame for this mess.
The NRA should be worried, without their help, Americans wrote a record number of comments to the BAFTE with the vast majority against a Bump Stock ban, with a total of 35,584 comments, all without any encouragement and despite their silence. All this for a basically stupid firearm accessory that is owned by a few folks. That is an outstanding response that shows gun owners get that once we agree that our freedoms are the root cause of gun violence, we are done, toast, kaput, etc.
In comparison, the Obama era proposed M855 ammunition ban garnered around 80,000 comments and was actively promoted by the NRA and their established grass roots organization.
I will never send the NRA one dime. I have been a Life Member for over 30 years and I am wise to their lies and games. Its all about the money, their fat paychecks and perks. They need issues to fund raise off of and are not interested in progress, just collecting cash.
Yawn……more blabbering from a “disgruntled” NRA Lifer……..as if you ever were. And if you are then we’re glad you’re gone. If you let a very minor issue like bumpstocks be the straw that broke your camel’s back then “bye bye”…..Don’t let the door to the NRA clubhouse hit you in the ass on the way out.
Well Dr English, glad you are such an expert on “NRA Lifers” I’m a Life, Endowment, Benefactor member and I for one am incensed at the stand the NRA took on bumpstocks. That was capitulation to the gun grabbers at the very least. What happened to our Stand Fast position. My response to that was to promptly join GOA, at least so far, they haven’t caved on any gun related issue. I will be very reluctant to send any more money to the NRA after this. PS, I’m not Blabbering, I’m Pissed OFF!
If the NRA cave…..I may tear up my membership. If they give in to this, what next? Giving in to banning Ar’s? Then magazines over 10 rds….then semi autos? It will just keep going until we have no rights any longer. Wake up people, build the wall, send every one home and lets fix our country. One last thing, lets turn California into a prison and send all libtards and mentally ill there.
Guess you’ll send your money to the National democratic org. That’ll show those pesky NRA members.
The problem is if the ATF redefines the way a trigger works by saying faster fire is a MG then all aftermarket triggers will be banned and there will be no way to register them under the NFA since the MG registry is closed. Plus changing mid stream will cause a ton of lawsuits. You have to be consistent in law otherwise your screwed. It cant be good one minute and bad the next, when the definition of a MG is specific. I voted for Trump but I will never vote for him again. He is a gun grabber
Others have and will cover the details of this treason. I’ll just say that Trunp just lost two votes here (I campaigned for this narcissistic turd and wish I hadn’t) and any of my buddies I explain this to. He is a one termer just like (and for the same reasom) Bush the first. Get your ammo, reloading components and magazines now, lads
In that case you and the Randy have extraordinarily limited reasoning abilities. Two less votes for Trump means two more votes for true gun banners like Hillary. Can you even begin to imagine what assaults would be happening to our gun rights for the last year if Hillary was president and the Senate and House were in democratic hands? Please don’t be morons.
Bullshit! Trumps done more for gun owners than any President.
We need to ban all trigger fingers. Gun owners will have to contact their doctors to have their trigger fingers amputated if they want to own guns.
I guess Jerry Miculek’s finger should be banned too.
Shhhhhhhhh…..don’t let the anti-gunnners know about Jerry’s ability. They’ll be pushing for banning “assault style index fingers”……….
Not to mention wheelgun reclassified as full auto. In fact someone tell jerry to lay low for a couple months 😀
So the gun grabbers always want to point out exactly how many people die from gun shot wounds every year. And they won’t tell you a good percentage of those are suicides, those don’t count on my list. Do the libtards know EVERY 15 MINUTES A DRUNK DRIVER KILLS AN INNOCENT PERSON. You won’t see rallies protesting owning Jack Daniels and a car cause “alcohol isn’t that bad” what people fail to recognize is laws only stop people who respect them.
Sean…….I’ve been beating this drum regarding drunk driving for years and when I’m dealing with the left and use this logical example I usually get “well, everyone has driven while they are drunk”. Lesson learned: don’t use a logical argument when arguing with an illogical person. Having been a LEO in Texas for years I’ve seen firsthand what drunk driving can cause. Even when you have facts and study data on your side it’s hard to defeat the hypocritical lunacy of the left. They dwell on another planet.
As with Columbine and a long list of mass shootings, this shooting was brought on by years of bullying. Google the word: “Bullying” with a search of “Florida Shooting”. The “media” ignores the fact, and the Teachers who did nothing about the bullying they saw, the Principal who did nothing about the bullying he or she saw, and Law Enforcement are all keeping their heads down hoping no one notices their cowardice and failure. Just like Columbine. Ask a kid: “Is there one of your classmates that gets picked on a lot?” “What do the Teachers do?”
Dealing with bullying is a real source of solutions that NOBODY wants as they already have their agendas.
Of course Trump lied about protecting our Rights. His boss, Putin, does not want us united or armed. American Oligarchs applaud.
Been a conspiracy nut for long? Please go back on your meds and get some sleep. You need a healthy dose of both.
Dr Troll,
Strike a nerve, did I? Dr heal thyself, i.e. get help.
You democrat liberals need to keep off gun posts You stand out like a post in the middle of the road.
The RIGHT to defend oneself is far above any person or Government. It is a Universal Right with which we are born and they have NO authority to give or take one’s Right to self defense, or the Right or responsibility to defend someone else. The 2A only expresses and recognizes this Human Right and tells us how to exercise it. The 2A does not give any authority to anyone to take that Right.
Have someone who understands what I wrote explain it to you over and over until it starts to make sense, then come back and I will further educate you.

Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope
Like good Christians, some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches
But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light
And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon it went
And ’til the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end
While we bullied, stole and bought our a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man
But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light
The blue and grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war over
They stuffed it just like a hog
And though the past has it’s share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But it’s protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it’s a monster and will not obey
(Suicide)
The spirit was freedom and justice
And it’s keepers seem generous and kind
It’s leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won’t pay it no mind
‘Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
And now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it’s all just an echo of what they’ve been told
Yeah, there’s a monster on the loose
It’s got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watchin’
Our cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin’ the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can’t understand
We don’t know how to mind our own business
‘Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who’s the winner
We can’t pay the cost
‘Cause there’s a monster on the loose
It’s got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watching
(America)
America where are you now?
Don’t you care about your sons and daughters?
Don’t you know we need you now
We can’t fight alone against the monster
What a shame. Here again the knee jerk reaction will punish the miilions and ultimately will lead to the loss of our 2nd Amendment Right. If no person under the age of 21 can own a gun or a semi-automatic weaopn, then no person under the age of 21 should ever be sent to war.
People are not sent to war anymore. They volunteer and thank God for them. Less than 1% of our population serves this country and 1 tenth of that serve in actual combat. And we wonder why fewer and fewer people in this country understand the purpose our founding father’s had in mind when they put the 2nd Amendment in the Constitution. Times are different now, the old draft excuses are no longer valid. The larger populace of young people do not serve the country and I think that by not doing that they give up some of their rights until they are of age. They need more time to mature because they do not accept the responsibility earlier in age as we did. I know I know not all kids are irresponsible or mature late but I feel more of them are late bloomers than in earlier generations. Many aren’t leaving the nest until they are 30. This also allows more time to identify those with issues and document them.
If Trump stands firm to please his base, we will lose many seats in the 2018 congress. As much as I hate to lose any part of my 2nd amendment right, there have to be concessions. We must win the war, not necessarily every battle and Trump knows this. Oh ye of little faith!!!
It’s Trumps base, 2A law abiding Americans, that put him there. He will lose them if he doesn’t stand firm on 2A. Then Dems will b in charge and finish what Trump started!
What about all of the congressional seats? The NRA should be responding to the “NRA accusations” with education – of the ignorant and/or fence sitting gun owners who never use their guns.
No one seems to be addressing the underlying cause behind all the gun violence that has taken place in the last few decades. We all had guns in the fifties and sixties, but used them for hunting to supplement our table fare with tasty game. What has changed? Kids come home from school now, drop in front of their computer and play video games that depict the player as the shooter killing others with imaginary guns and other weapons for hours. Do you think these games desensitizes these young minds? How about the violent Hollywood movies that makes killing seem normal, even as the actors who portray the killer are the ones yelling for gun control. Better look at the root cause for answers rather then a knee jerk reaction.
Here we go with the blame movies and games line again. Do you KNOW how many people play video games and watch these movies? If these were the cause this would be happening way more than not. Could they affect some people with mental problems, of course but so could a lot of other things.
All these hardcore pro2A tin foil hat wearing loons cry about Trump wanting these stupid bump stocks that work for shit anyways ,banned, all crying Trump let me down, pissing and moaning about a shit piece of plastic that you can even aim with with any sense of control.it’s a freakin accessorie,NOT a firearm, you can still buy as many guns as you want, but after you’re all said moaning and groaning,STOP and THINK,,where would you be right now if the BITCH had won,??
We’ve suffered through loss of 2A rights with all the previous gun control acts on the past nearly eighty years and I can
STILL buy ammo and guns conveniently in my state. Stop being panicky and use your head. We have NEVER lived in an all or nothing world and never will. Lisa’s right……let’s win the war and not fret over comparatively small battles…and no, the left hasn’t just gotten a foot in our collective gun rights door.
Doc,
That war was won more than 200 years ago against thugs in red coats. We have a Second Amendment because of the courageous individuals who pledged their fortunes, their lives and their sacred honor to defeat tyranny. They knew compromise was not an option. Nor is it now if we want to keep our Second Amendment and remain free men. “Reasonable gun control” is a ruse that will ultimately lead to confiscation, one small compromise at a time. As free men, the Second Amendment is our line in the sand. You are either on the right side of that line, defending freedom, or you are just a summer soldier and a sunshine patriot. What is it about “shall not be infringed” do you not understand?
Can’t win a war by losing battles, even small ones. 2A is worth every one. And small keys open heavy doors. Just sayin.
Patriot…my reply was misplaced. It was intended for Roy who replied to Lisa. And I completely agree with you. Imagine what things would be like if that lying liberal hag had won.
Exactly, it’s just a piece of plastic that can be replaced with a rubber band to do the same thing. So what IS the point? Solutions, not meaningless knee jerk legislation.
Dr. English, Roy, and Lisa- The assumption is that the new law will be written in a way only to include bump stocks. Come on really? When do they ever write a clear law to include only one thing? If it could be and there was give and take then I can see the reasoning. However normal politics never seem to be that simple. In a game this heated everyone wants more than they should. Time will tell, I just hope my grand kids get to enjoy the freedoms we still have today.
I am personally horrified at all of these shootings period, whether it be school shootings, or Las Vegas style mass shootings. And if you listen to the Liberal media, the “common denominator” is the “OMG AR-15 style Military Style Rifles”. Say nothing of the fact that the black plastic furniture has no affect on the ballistics compared with the wood furniture. That’s how stupid this argument is. It’s OK to have a “Hunting style” rifle. I guess they can’t kill anyone. Sure usually lower count mags and all, but anyone seen a mini-14 with a large mag? I have. But I guess with wood furniture, they can’t kill. My point being, the common denominator in these is not the killing device, it the MENTAL HEALTH issues and the fact that for the sake of preserving ones right to privacy, that information can’t be shared with the ATF or FBI to restrict gun ownership during the background checks. How the heck can you be put on the “No fly list” easier than a “No buy list”. If you have a mental health history, then you should have to have a physician’s clearance to get off of the “No buy list”. This is where the problem lies, not in increasing laws. We have enough of them, but allow the proper agencies access to the information to allow them to execute their functions properly. To heck with the politicial correctness of privacy of information. These kids are out of control, not your average gun owner. If you restrict guns then these off center kids and adults will drive cars/trucks through crowds or use knives. I don’t see anyone banning vans as motor vehicles despite the fact they, as well, have been used in mass killings. Let’s deal with this problem by burrowing down to the root problem. The individual and the family. 39 police calls in 7 years, 33 of those in the last year and no one saw a problem. This guy in Florida should have been on a “No buy list” a long time ago, especially since they are all reported to be domestic violence related. Just my opinion.
All this and not a peep about national reciprocity? Yeah I’m pretty effing let down.reasonable compromise my hairy arse! Oh well speaker Pelosi should have the articles of impeachment ready by late January next year. Cya
It took awhile but folks including those who are fans of 2A are finally seeing the real Donald Trump. He cares only about how good he looks. He knows he has to do something as does the NRA. So this time it’s our turn to get screwed by this guy. Live and learn, emphasis on “learn”!
Bob B
Yawn………
The downfall of Trump and the NRA has begun. Shame how fast they move to infringe on 2A because of 1 bad man but ignore rights of good, law abiding millions. Wish Washington moved that fast to hold their own accountable for lawlessness and tragedy, i.e. HClinton, BObama, FBI and DOJ! We won’t forget in Nov 2018 or 2020. Farewell NRA.
I sure wish that Missing Nuke that Lindsey Graham was so worried about in 2014 hitting South Carolina, would Level DC into a Shiny Parking Lot and end the Tyranny of the Federal Government …
I think the best bone Trump could throw is one to placate the idiots at large before something far worse happens. Because when these senseless idiots get heated up in the flames of passion I can say with all assuredness that gun owners won’t be the ones found wanting.
Now is it sensible to raise the age limit to buy a gun of your choice? Sure, I actually could go along with that (and I’ll explain why in a moment,) with a few caveats. One being that if you are enlisted into the military you are completely exempt from this law, so long as you are actively serving. Second, if you are 18 or older, and have no documented criminal history and you are not prescribed any mind altering substances for mental health reasons, and you can pass a random yearly drug screening, you can own below the threshold. Anyone under the age of 18 cannot own personally own a firearm, except under the direct supervision of their parent, or appointed guardian. When in the accompaniment thereof they may use and possess any such firearm so long as it is in the direct presence of said adult or in the shared defense of a family member or home.
Now as to why I say that, I believe that it is not entirely unreasonable because there is a fact that that not everyone matures at the same rate, mentally and physically. Looking back at when I grew up and came of age (80’s) (we seemed a lot more free back then, *sigh*) not everyone was on doctor prescribed pharmaceuticals, although Quaaludes, Acid, Pot, Cocaine, LSD, Shrooms, and every other illicit drug leftover from the 60’s was still readily prevalent and available. And thus many were tried, by my company of friends and miscreants that we were in our time. I can reason that we were not exactly mature, we were striving for it, we could pretend, we could think we were, but looking back, I think we can all agree that we simply were not all mature. At least to the degree that we all thought we were. However, at the age of 21 my excitement to finally go drink at a bar was……well…. not that exciting. We all could procure everything we needed long before the age of 21 so it was frankly not really a big deal. And I think at the time I turned 21, my proclivities for nonsense had waned, I started to focus on my future, and actually began to pay heed to those that had gone before me. At 16-21 I could swear I knew everything, I took no council and neither did my friends. The ripe age of 21 I can say is By And Large when you are mentally capable of taking on the responsibilities of adulthood. And this is my personal reasoning as to why I’m okay with limiting some hormonal teenager from full unsupervised access to a deadly weapon that allows them in their immature rage to kill as many people as possible because they didn’t get their way.
So what will happen when we have a father / son team of mass murderers? Imagine that knee jerk…and watch your gun rights end. Give them an inch and they want a mile. Caving in to the minority wish is not good for anybody. It’s like letting your child run your household, which today seems to be the case in many, many homes.
I think you are right in your assertions.
I know I was not ready at that age either.
My brother has kids and is having a great deal of issues with them concerning the internet. His daughter at 11 is already checking out very explicit porn and both of them are entirely consumed by the internet.
Kids no longer get out and do things outdoors but immerse themselves in the internet and facebook and twitter.
Kids could be cruel when I was growing up but the amount of bullying on the internet is mind blowing. He made a comment to me that kids should not have access to the entire internet and smart phones until they are 21 unless their job required it.
21 across the board for internet, alcohol, guns, and voting. You could beat those numbers down if you were honorably discharged from the military. If you went in at 18 you get full access to everything at 20 after serving your 2 years.
I think a lot of these kids screaming for our guns would change their tune if it cost them their internet!
I am older and wiser now and have put myself through the arduous task of acquiring NFA items, not just for the protection of my family but because shooting is a fun hobby for me. Get em while you can!
What are they going to ban when somebody walks into a classroom with a couple gallons of gasoline and a road flare … ?
I dont really know what they are going to ban, but I would ban that kid along with his or her moron parents from congregating amongst the civil educated mainstream, in other words, throw the parents in jail for a year and judge the kid as an adult, for adult related crimes, and just wait and see how this will end.
A hardened facility would hopefully prevent that from happening.
If the age of 21 is a requirement for one civil right, will it also apply to other rights? No freedom of speech until age 21, no right to vote until age 21, folks under 21 can be searched without warrants, etc. I don’t think so. To the causal observer, Looks like another infringement on the 2nd plain and simple. Trump will not win another term without the gunners, tread lightly.
I guess the age for enlisting in the armed forces will have to be upped to 21 as well. Can’t have an eighteen year old driving a tank or loading ordinance on a jet fighter.
A couple of thoughts. First with regard to “bump stocks”. Purpose? To circumvent the restriction on owning a full automatic firearm. There is no other reason. Further it is not something covered in the 2nd amendment as it’s not a firearm it’s an accessory and nowhere in 2A does it say “..the right to bear arms and all accessories will not be infringed.” So if the government wishes to ban its sale and use it’s not running afoul of the 2nd amendement.
Now with regard to 18 year olds who according to many “are old enough to go to war and fire all sorts of weapons so they should also be able to buy any long gun they wish” is very misleading. First of all no 18 year old is admitted to the armed forces and immediately given a firearm. They are put through rigorous training both mental and physical along with hours on the range and constant reinforcement on the proper use and care of their weapons. That’s not the same as some “Harry high schooler” walking into their corner gun shop and buying an AR15 and a box of ammo. I for one have no problem making the age of 21 the age in which you may purchase a firearm. That doesn’t mean they can’t use one and go hunting and target shooting with their parents or other adult supervision prior to that age.
All of us who cherish the 2nd amendment and believe it gives us the right to individually own firearms should be aware their are multitudes trying to disarm us, gut the amendment and grab as many guns as possible. By standing against the use of an accessory which has no practical use other than to circumvent the full automatic ban and whine about moving the age to purchase a long gun to 21 you are playing right into their hands as being unreasonable since none of this is anti-2nd amendment. The SCOTUS has already ruled in Heller that while it is an individual right to own a firearm that states may place reasonable restrictions on the use and purchase of firearms and these measures aren’t really covered in the constitution and the 2nd amendment. Now all who think any reasonable approach to this issue is a giveaway to the liberals/socialists/Democrats can pile on and call me names.
Every inch we give gets us closer to a total ban no matter how innocuous it seems. Incrementalism which only leads in one direction to one conclusion. Diabolical!
Give an INCH they’ll take a MILE! No need for name calling, your entitled to your opinion.
The argument you provided toward the 2A and accessories is specious. Apply that reasoning to its fullest. This would mean that any part not original to the manufacture of the gun is an accessory. So the only thing that we would be allowed to bear arms with is whatever was integral to the original manufacture. Spare/replacement parts, scopes, sights, better trigger groups, magazines, lights, slings, camouflaging, barrel and metal treatments, cleaners, and all maintenance items would and could become subject to regulation. Not to mention how this would be applied to the ammunition and reloading market. The anti-gunners know that if they can’t ban the guns, they can all but make them useless by eradicating the accessory market supporting firearm us. The accessory market is not a throw-away negotiating chip. “Accessories” are absolutely vital your rights to keep and bear arms.
I had not finished my frustrated thought process out that far. That makes actual “sense”. Sad that its such a game. I feel like I’m in School being bullied by a few political “tuff guys”.
I’ll not call you names because you are entitled to your opinion, even if it differs from mine. What I will do, is ask a question.
What is your interpretation of Thomas Jefferson’s statement; “The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in Government.”? I can give you mine.
When government’s try to take control of the people they REPRESENT, they begin the taking on the position of dictators, which, if I’m not mistaken, was the reason we have the Declaration of Independence now. The founding fathers didn’t want to be obliged to the whims of those that thought they could hold sway over the people of the land, so they fought & won our independence. Now, we are in essence, trying our best to give that power back to our government, despite ourselves. Every time we give concessions on our rights…whether the 2nd, or the 5th, or the 14th, or the 1st…we lose a little bit more of our freedoms that were fought so hard & diligently for.
“Whenever Governments intend to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia (which at that time, were men between the ages of 14-45, notation mine), in order to raise an army upon their ruins.” Rep. Elbridge Gerry of Mass. & signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Bumpstocks were created to assist the physically challenged. They weren’t created to circumvent the full auto ban, which in itself, is an infringement because it disallows citizenry from the same armaments the standing army (also, unconstitutional) has at their disposal. It is, as has always been, the depravity of men (& women…equal opportunity) that pervert the liberties we as American citizens, were intended to enjoy. There is no ifs, hands or buts, on what the 2nd. Amendment covers, other than the Governments (local & federal) are not to create laws that circumvent this amendment. The ideologies of individuals, are especially not the basis for infringing on our rights at all…yours, or mine.
I will suggest to the Trump administration to start real negotiations with the DemocRat on changes to comprehensive gun laws. If the left want it…put the life of children first and end the killing of 300K UN-born children every year. Real negotiation bring real consequences!!!
Sure …. As soon as abortions are banned…that kill 880 EVERY DAY!
How did abortion get in here?! I think it’s hilarious (that means funny) that all of the “pro-lifers” are also pro-death penalty.
I guess y’all don’t want the doctors killing them before you get your chance to do it in the jury box. How many of you anti-abortionists have stepped up to take an unwanted child into your home for life? Damned few is my guess. You love to bang on about other people should conduct themselves while condemning the “left” for doing the same thing. How about you keep your imaginary sky-friend and his comic book of “morality” to yourselves.
I keep thinking about this ‘thing’ whereas college-age females (generally I should say) have been assaulted/raped thereby leading them towards getting their concealed carry permit. MOST college age ‘kids’ WOULD KISS THAT GOODBYE. No more FIREARM protection until the average student would either be graduated or close. HOW is it that the ABSOLUTELY heinous murder of innocents by ABORTION, WHICH THE LEFTIST LIBERALS HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH, does NOT draw the same outcry and rage to “DO SOMETHING” as the schoolhouse rampage by a ‘lunatic’? Why isn’t there a constant drum beat to equate those two things as the EXACT SAME? Innocent life taken in both examples, yet the hypocrasy is astounding…as we march onward as becoming a genocidal nation. We’ve shown God the door and we’re now reaping what we’ve sown…
Oh My ! Banning bump stocks will absolutely stop mass murder, right ?? Has everyone in DC lost what little mind they have left ? We know it, they know it won’t make a difference at all. It’s just another chip taken out of the 2nd Amendment
& that’s all. We have a society problem, not a gun problem. When you have wolves in the area, do you leave the sheep unguarded? Oh that’s right, you make another worthless “law” to protect the sheep rather than armed security. We had 2.5 million killed & injured last year by Alcohol related accidents, & how many abortions? Let’s take a look at Malpractice. with another 250,000 dead. Lets look at the Democrats “Real Agenda”
Go ahead! Raise the age buy a gun to 21, or 25, or 30 even. At the same time, raise the age to vote the same. While you’re at it, require gun ownership and proof of training in order to vote. You want to exercise the privilege of voting? Then show your willngness to defend our country, our flag, and our Constitution!
I like your ideas too!
Unfortunately this is a problem created in a time line of over many years, and yet here we are, no contrrol over our kids, and no idea how to reverse what we have done, and have created a safe haven for criminals within our schools to boot. The bottom line is we have guns to blame for our ineptness in keeping our new generation in line, furthermore we have glorified the use of violence when we cant get our way with our music an moronic video games. this mindset that makes a left out kid or a mentally disturbed one think he is superior when he hits a certain level in one of these stupid games is only the begining of our failures in education, the lack of responsibility being left unpunished also plays a major role. Will banning any type of guns stop the monsters we created, NO! and thats been proven in cities with the highest crime rates, BUT!!!! its our legislators and deficient parents way of justifying doing something about the sick and brutal acts that we have trained our young kids to perform when they are somehow pissed off. GOD HELP US ALL, ESPECIALLY THE KIDS! Because as parents, WE HAVE FAILED, and that my friends, is the real problem, not the guns.
You are absolutely correct, Jorge. Our society has bent over backwards to appease the corruptors. As a society, as a country, we have failed our children miserably.
Best idea yet!
Yes I feel let down, Time for the Revolution to start…. WOLVERINES
Lead the way or shut up, child.
3d plastic printers can be purchased and a killer can easily make/print up a bump stock.
All this talk in bans is doing is driving thousands of people to buy a bump stock when they otherwise wouldn’t waste money on it. I think they are useless and stupid- But I will order one becuase i can!
There was a time when anybody who put cash on the counter could legally buy a full-auto Thompson, or any other weapon a person can carry no matter how lethal, with no questions asked other than maybe “Need cartridges sir?” There were NO federal gun laws and NO school shootings at all. Even though kids in rural areas could bring their squirrel guns and put them in the corner to go hunting after school. NO mass shootings back then except organized criminals taking out rival criminals. That still goes on today, even in countries with strict gun control laws, because criminals will always find a way.
So what changed in our culture? Time was a murderer was promptly hanged, thrown in an unmarked county grave, and forgotten about. Now murdering numerous people for no apparent reason makes one famous, even if it’s posthumously. And it seems fame is the most coveted thing on earth, the holy grail of all media-addicted sickos. How do we fix that? I really can’t say for sure but so-called “gun control” laws that just whittle away at the rights of law-abiding people aren’t going to work, period.
After ALL the discussions I’ve seen/heard, NOT ONE TIME has anybody brought up PUNISHMENT AS A DETERRENT. A conviction for a drug offense can get a mandatory sentence for ‘selling so much’ or armed robbery, etc can I guess…I don’t know as I’m not a lawyer. But there’s just no deterrent to crime anymore. Hell, I think a lot of ‘repeat offenders’ find they LIKE IT BETTER on the inside as there’s no responsibility and there’s ‘free’ meals, tv, heck you can get an education if you want I understand. BUT (!) IF there were a MANDATORY DEATH SENTENCE for committing as heinous a crime as spilling innocent blood…there ‘might’ be a change of heart in committing that planned attack. Sure, a lot of these idiots with the intent of taking themselves out and some are desperate enough not to give a damn either way; but for those who plan and scheme for a premeditated ‘assault’ or terrorize anyone, WHY NOT MAKE THE SENTENCING PHASE HARSHER? Yeah, we’re just too humane, we just have such high morals we can’t possibly ‘justify taking someone’s life away from them’…even the most evil, we’re just too moral. THEN we murder and ABORT 100’s of THOUSANDS OF BABIES through abortion. Makes me sick!
The way he has worded everything makes me wonder if he’s not just buying time for a blow over. He said have it reviewed for legality.
Is he just being a salesman right now and shutting people up? Or is he serious?
Yep he’s serious–about the politics of it all not the substance. Only a tiny minority of gun owners will strongly object to things like bump stock restrictions or raising the age to buy certain guns to 21…IF that’s what’s necessary to get national reciprocity passed. That actually matters, especially to permit holders who cross state lines. But some libtard Dems under the thumb of anti-gun idiots will vote against ANY bill containing reciprocity (which doesn’t cause any crime at all in states that already have it) even if doing so puts them on record as voting against so-called “common sense” gun control measures.
Craig, I believe you are right. Anti-gun are in a frenzy. Usual non-anti-gun are in a frenzy. There is a strong “gotta do something” mentality and immediate gratification Americans want something done yesterday. We all know guns aren’t the problem, but I feel that time is here when pro gun has to show some give. Trump HAS to be a politician right now. There is way to much at stake.
Proudly Voted Trump==Love my Country…The Libs who voted clinton still have a strong hold on theres enough Rhinos..
“RINO” -> Republican In Name Only
The republicans control all three branches. I find the truth lies with the party in power. If anit-gun legislation comes out of congress, I will blame the Republicans. Trump is backpedaling on his promise to the NRA, I do not like a liar. I do not believe Trump has anyone’s interest but his own.
Folks here we are down the road and the government is looking at a end around! They can not get direct laws passed on banning guns of any kind so they take measures on getting their Control Freak hands on gun parts, trigger devices, bump stocks! Can you take a guess what’s going to happen in the near future? You might want to consider and think about it because something is going to happen and it’s not going to be very constitutional friendly!! More and more of these shootings are looking like staged events by hand picked crazies to push an agenda!! Think about it!
They can’t think about because everyone is in denial. Even now, after seeing all of this BS, they are in denial. And do you know what will come to pass? The end of us, the end of our guns and then the big one, the end of our society and way of life.
Yet look around you tube, you see endless videos of dumbasses still out there making videos promoting how fast this can make their gun fire, how that can make their gun hold more ammo, blowing scrap up and a whole bunch of crap they will use against us. Touting how they can get around this law and that one.
In the end, all they will do is hand them over .
I thought about it and I think spreading conspiracy theories do not help the agenda. These kids are not smart enough to think that out. Killing 17 people is not the way liberals would spread gun control. This is a deranged kid, like all of the school shootings by youth.
To do this -properly- as has been intimated in the statement, the Hughes amendment (no new machine guns produced after 1986 allowed for civilians) would have to be -at least temporarily- rescinded so as to allow a 201x (year) registration amnesty for the newly prohibited accessories. ALSO, the machine gun registry would need to be re-opened so that adding all those new -ahem- machine guns to the NFA/GCA registration lists would be possible.
For this to be practical, the addition of the multitude of war relic/trophies and other misc. NFA items would need to be allowed & amnestied also.
During the registration amnesty for machine guns, destructive devices, and sound suppressors during the several? months in the late 1960s the NFA tax of $200 was suspended for all new inclusions, but anything filed after the cutoff date reverted to the old system of a $200 tax per item and an additional $200 tax stamp for any subsequent transfer.
IF this new round of federal gun control were to follow prior practices, it could be somewhat of a boon for civilian market for NFA items. If the Trump administration were to include declassifying sound suppressors so as to remove them from the NFA (to get the pro-firearm crowd to embrace? the new legislation) we might witness an added benefit of seeing -at least a portion of- the gungrabber left dropping dead from their heads exploding.
Given that not a lick of traction has been made on either of the bills for hearing protection, I’m calling the bluff. The NRA spent a lot of money this past year “trying to get hearing protection through” and instead they con the president into getting it reviewed by the BATFE. The President has the NRA’s back, which is to say that they will call you and beg you for 500 bucks to stave off this infringement that they in fact caused (as always). If they make echo triggers and bumpstocks regulated through the NFA, they are going to need a way to do it and it will likely be tied directly to lowers, because who is going to serial a trigger pack or a plastic stock?
No more gun registration, destroy all existing databases, get rid of 4473/NFA/GCA and BATFE oversight of F & E. We have laws the cover murder, assault, arson, etc. Go back to Constitutional Carry of firearms of any kind. Humans are predatory by our very nature as humans, the ones that can’t control their urges to harm others will be removed from society by the police and courts when they have been caught by officials, and others will be removed from society by law abiding citizens when the criminals are caught by citizens. Yes, sounds drastic, but it worked for thousands of years, what we are doing today is not working. Let Darwin work as nature intended. Withing a short period of time, when the predators figure out that the prey will no longer be passive because , the violence will decrease greatly.
Is everyone paying attention to the memo, this is not about bumpstocks, but any device… thus literally any trigger that changes the rate of fire could be included….
First of all Trump nor anyone in Congress has a damn clue what the difference between a machine gun/full auto/adding a bump stock is. I don’t think the FBI or BATF has a clue either. A bump stock does not make a semi automatic fully automatic. It is still a semi automatic rifle. I take care of the thousand yard rifle range close to where I live this past weekend I had 2 FBI Agents and a deputy sheriff at my range. The two FBI agents also served in Iraq and Afghanistan in the military. Between the three of them I feel like there was at least 50 years of military/law-enforcement experience. Not one of them had a clue what an MOA was much less what it was it 100 or 400 or thousand or how to properly adjust and zero in a rifle scope. That is a sad situation when these people are supposed to be protecting us and they don’t have a clue. I think the only thing they knew how to load a gun and how to pull the trigger. Just my two cents worth.
🔫🇺🇸🇨🇱🤠
🔫🇺🇸🇨🇱🤠
Unfortunately most law enforcement doesn’t know jack shit about any other firearm than the 3 issued to them. And they usually only know how to spray n pray.
“the people can not be all, & always, well informed. the part which is wrong [. . .] will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. if they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. we have had 13. states independent 11. years. there has been one rebellion. that comes to one rebellion in a century & a half for each state. what country before ever existed a century & half without a rebellion? & what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms. the remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. what signify a few lives lost in a century or two? the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. it is it’s natural manure.”
DANG JAY!!! LEARN to WRITE. I can’t even follow what you’re TRYING to imply or express. Dang, a waste of time to TRY & READ something that has punctuation in all but the right places! SLOW the heck down or THINK about “verbalizing” through your computer…let it do it for you.
I have to agree with Dewey above. I fear another AWB and possible Aussie gun control is coming sooner or later.
And it starts, the ban on guns, they start by making small things illegal, then it goes into making more stuff illegal, it won’t be long until this is (prison states of America) guns don’t kill people, people kill people. The fix is better people’s skills, stop you little bullies, and thugs before they Bully someone to the point of them taking a gun, to solve their problems.
I am with above poster on Trump. He will do what he has to to satisfy the Leftist’s. The Banning of “Bump Fire Devices” will also include any device that enables the user to shoot quicker. Say good by to Match Triggers. They shoot quicker. Binary Trigger? Hell that is a Machine Gun now. And we thought we would have HPA and Tax free suppressors now. Trump is for Trump.
I agree on Trump .He does not care what the NRA wants, he is in it for himself. The tax break is proof tRump’s interest lies in his wallet and his ego…… His election was a mistake and I blame the Republicans for willfully following this clown now.
It is just noise to placate the gun ban crowd. It is a useless measure that will not go anywhere.
Anything that helps increase the rate of fire is a broad far reaching law. After market triggers, lightweight bolt carriers, reduced buffer springs etc, etc.
If they do ban bump fire stocks what’s going to happen with the ones people already have.
If this were a country where responsibility fell on the people introducing things, then any ban would result in the person introducing it paying for it directly. So in this case, it would be Trump personally paying for it out of his campaign funds or personal funds. That is to say, Trump would trade your check for the full retail price of the items. Ideally, if this bankrupts someone like Dianne Feinstein, she wouldn’t be able to run for an election again until she has finished paying it off. The government with my taxes shouldn’t pay for taking away my rights, nor should I. Of course, one state has already done it on its own and they wonder why only 4 people turned them in across the entire state.
In Mass, your supposed to just turn them in, without compensation!
Trump’s right on bump stocks – they make a rifle fire more than once per pull of the trigger. There’s no other reason for their existence. So they’re a work-around on the NFA, the Hughes amendment and GCA ’68.
The NRA would be very wise to bend to common sense on this issue. An impassioned defense of bump stocks will destroy any chance of their preventing Dianne Feinstein from getting a really draconian assault weapons ban passed as she preaches over the bodies of 17 teenage kids.
https://twitter.com/enterprisecares/status/966847626439086082 shows that the Resistance has gotten political traction on this issue – the CEO of Enterprise Rent A Car, which also does business as National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car just caved into them and canceled their discounts to NRA members – punishing the NRA’s rank-and-file for Wayne LaPierre’s decisions.
I won’t rent from them. You guys do what you feel is right. But bump stocks aren’t that damned important, and they never struck me as a good idea, anyway. Controllability of a rifle with one of those on it has to suck. Just so you can send a box of ammo downrange in ten seconds?
NRA should realize this is their moment to give on a very weak point, so they can muster their leverage to keep Dianne Feinstein and the DNC’s slimy mitts off our legitimate Second Amendment rights.
Did you miss that the ATF, and under Okenya at that, had determined that bump stocks will not be illegalized or regulated?
Appreciate the info about the car rental companies.
They literally do not fire more than once per trigger pull. They actually only work by extra trigger pulls. That the trigger flies away from your finger and then pulled forward by your other hand is another matter. But the law is function of a trigger, so that’s the reason that echo and binary triggers fall through since the mechanism fires on pull and fires on release of the trigger, which in the way they built the triggers counts as separate functions. If you pull the trigger with an empty chamber and hold the trigger while you put in a full magazine, then pull back the charging handle and release, the hammer will not follow the bolt carrier until you release the trigger.
Do you know what a bump fire stock is? They don’t allow a rifle to fire more than once per pull of the trigger- for Christs sake, do a little research before spouting off and sounding like a dip shit.
I agree 100%
I am nauseated at the fact that anyone is even listening to a bunch of high school students ,liberal teachers and gun haters in this situation and knowing that the vast majority of them know NOTHING about guns–only what the leftist have shouted in their ears.
Don’t get me wrong ,it sickens me anytime there is a shooting. Bottom line someone suggested a fence around schools–chain link perhaps–well frickin duh–stand outside and wait for school to let out and they could mow them down and not even be inside the school–oh ya! one entrance—you must be shittin me–3000 or so students—how long would it take to run them through a metal detector, they would probably have to get there 2 hours or more earl just to be on time.
And now bump fire stocks again–one shooting with them and OH–LETS BAN THEM–there are MILLIONS of them out there and they get used in one shooting.
HERES ONE FOR YOU–CONCIDERING WHAT THE SHOOTER IN VEGAS HAD TIED UP IN GUNS, HE COULD HAVE EASILY PURCHASED “ONE M-60 MACHINE GUN FOR ABOUT THE SAME PRICE. PASSED THE BACKROUND CHECK AND HAD WAAAAAAAAAAY MORE FIREPOWER AND BEEN ABLE TO LINK THOUSANDS OF ROUNDS TOGETHER , CHANGED BARRELS QUICKLY AND PROBUBLY KILLED WAY MORE PEOPLE. BUT LETS BAN BUMP FIRE STOCKS———
Getting back to Florida—all the sniveling idiots want to blame everyone and everything but wont take responsibility for MOST OF THEM KEEPING THEIR MOUTHS SHUT ABOUT THIS GUY–THEY SCREAM NOW AND WANT SOMETHING DONE BUT WHY DIDNT THEY DO IT BEFORE–MAYBE THOSE KIDS WOULD STILL BE ALIVE–SO NOW WHO IS TO BLAME!!!! AS FAR AS THE F.B.I. DROPPING THE BALL AND THE LOCAL POLICE—WELL THEY WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH THEIR INCOMPIDENCE AND I HOPE THEY HAVE MANY SLEEPLESS NIGHTS AS THE SOULS OF THE DEAD KIDS HAUNT THEM.
I was sad to see the total disrespect that Rep Paul Rubio was shown in the town hall meeting—he should have walked out.
Those high school whiney ass kids and teachers sounded like someone wrote their comments for them to read but everyone is so hyped up on the rhetoric that most wont even recognize it.
I am sick and tired of all these numb nuts calling the AR-15 and weapon of war, a fully automatic gun etc–they are NOT–PERIOD!!!!. They look like and M-16 but CANT & DONT FIRE FULL AUTOMATIC—so Haroldo, Pelosi ,Feinstein and the likes how about keeping your uneducated ,ignorant mouths shut until you are familiar with the correct terms and nomenclature and try using them correctly so as to not expose your total ignorance about what you speak..
One more thing–why don’t we go after MDs and shrinks that pass out all these Psychotropic meds like candy and cant or wont let the authorities who is on them so they are not able to purchase weapons of any kind. Eventually we find out that almost EVERY MASS SHOOTER was under the influence of these drugs.
Right on the money, Brother!!!!!
!00% correct. This war is going to get nasty, a lot nastier than these liberal mind wasters want and it’s all on them. We The People” are sick and tired of the 2nd amendment being the most infringed upon right for the pantie wasted idiots to make feel good laws. I have never seen any law that prevented a crime, Period! Trump is treading into obama territory as he can not make laws!
Sorry but your comment was too rambling to read.
The real problem is your short attention span. ADHD much?
Strongly AGREE with Sandman!!! Also WTF do all the gun owners have to pay for the disgusting deed of the VERY FEW of the DISGUSTING IDIOTS!!! Also They do it to the Poor people like myself who Suffer from Chronic pain I am treated like a drug addict and put through bullshit because of people who abuse pain killers! I and Many others are required to jump through hoops to get some relief (not total relief) from the Pain they have! Also Remember One of the reasons our forefathers fought was Taxation without representation, all these special permits and licenses are all forms of taxation in sheep’s clothing My father has been a democrat as long as I remember and he is fed up with the dems and their agenda!! Wake up people Our Freedoms are under attack and We are all sleeping!!!!!!
His banning ANYTHING to do with guns is very upsetting to me. he was supposed to take away 2 regs for every new one… does this mean we can now buy full auto without having to buy the tax stamp. i would think he would know to NOT GIVE THE LIBS ANYTHING. we are in charge now, libs are horrible, nasty people that will never be satisfied, the will only want to take more of our rights, give them NOTHING!
Dennis, you can not trust any person in politics! The integrity they might have had soon wains!
the correct name for libtards, progressives, democrats is COMMUNIST!!! the democratic party of old is long gone and when people finally accept that then what all of the “democrats” extol will make more sense. the rinos like mccain and mcconnell are truly traitors to our country and should be treated like they are. it really pains me to know that our country will continue to pay these traitors/millionaires the lifetime salary–the clintons have been on welfare all of their lives and we still pay them every month. what a bunch of horse crap!
So if they change are successful in changing the law to make it so you have to be 21 to buy (own?) firearms, how’s about y’all tell your son’s and daughter’s that are contemplating joining the military that they should not do so until they are of age to parallel their lives as civilians. Or, how’s about they tell the recruiters that when they come sniffin’ around at the local high school looking for cannon fodder the same, so’s they can report back to the brass what the candidates that are willing to sign up and put their lives no the line are NOT willing to do.
With public opinion turning against anything looking like an AR things do look grim. Of particular note is mindset of younger voters. I guess this might restart the sellers market, at least for awhile. A lot of staunch NRA supporters may be out in the midterms this fall, this should be interesting.
If men and women under the age of 21 should not be able to buy a weapon then they should not be able to serve in the US Armed Forces, who knows what they might do, they may shoot someone. I was toting an M14 when I was 17 in the US Army. It’s crazy just like the 60’s, you could get drafted, get killed serving your country but could not legally drink or vote. What a Fu*ked up politically correct our government has become. We are a nation of whiners and sissies.
Also under 21 shouldn’t vote or be on a jury. Or own a car a capable of 100+mph.
News flash, captain cheeto: bump firing is an action, not an object. Get an education on the topic. Falling for the lies that the left has formed around bump stocks only proves me right that you’re an idiot…
I can bump fire any semi-auto with no stock or grip of any kind. Bump stocks just make it more accurate and responsible.
I guess they want to return to the ol’ “spray and pray” days… Yet another ban on safety upgrades, like the NFA’s functional ban on silencers and vertical fore grips on pistols…
And the Negotiate Rights Away will be right there to perpetuate the lies…
There is so little left of this country, I’m having a hard time finding an excuse not to renounce my citizenship. The witch hunts against common sense are advancing on all fronts, and not a soul is standing up for facts and reality…
Renounce your citizenship and go where exactly? Just be pillar in your community and get the right political representatives in office.
While I agree with the renounce your citizenship question, I don’t think you can have the right political representatives in office. Not until we do something about the media. Have you noticed that none of the reported on gunmen have ever gone to a news studio and gunned down the entire office? Doctors offices, schools, concerts, and lots of other stuff, but never a news studio…
Informing the idiots that you can bump fire any semi-auto weapon will get all semi auto weapons banned or worse confiscated, which is what they want. The impression touted by the media is that if guns were taken out of the equation we would live in utopia where no violence existed. Man has been killing man since the dawn of time, that will never change. You can’t legislate morals, ethics, sanity or even common sense. Trump will get a letter from me today on this subject. All gun owners should write as well. All politicians just want votes, they could care less about protecting the public. To all the snowflakes shouting ‘shame on you’ at their legislators, make sure you turn and shout at their parents who didn’t vote. Checked the numbers on voter turnout lately?
Wow, the crickets are loud on this one. What’s up? Feeling butthurt because the savior (and master of multi-dimensional chess) Trump isn’t a rabid, “shall not be infringed” retard? He’s not an outsider and he’s not “one of us”, he’s just another corporate puppet who will do as he’s told. Still thinking that “the left” and “the right” actually exist? When the call comes to “diffend yer country”, how will you do it without a bump stock? An “assault weapons” ban will exist before the end of this administration, guaranteed. How do I know? Because almost every one prior was signed by the Republican incumbent president at the time.
Trump was a democrat until he found discontent in the White Right. He will sell his soul to the highest bidder, including Russia. This is the wrong man in the highest position in the world. Any other republican, who ran in the primaries, would of stood tall with the NRA….., Trump slithers through the bushes spreading hate and discontent in America.
They’re all slithering snakes. The only people that believe that there are really two parties are those like you.
Amen!
Hey “Dewey”, I’ve seen a few of your responses to other commenters, and you have this ‘attitude’ for some reason…like you’re just “pissed off” or something. I’ve noticed you don’t have ANYTHING GOOD to add to THE subject. Just chill, take it easy…don’t be an jerk (I’m trying to be nice)
His actual memorandium can be found here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/presidential-memorandum-application-definition-machinegun-bump-fire-stocks-similar-devices/ It looks to me like he is just directing his administration to quickly go through the comments from the recent ATF RFQ…then figure out what to do from there. I have the feeling he is throwing the left a bone, to hopefully quell the idiots that want to ban ARs and the like….not that I agree with him…just my interpretation.
Nick, the masses hope your right because if Trump is selling us down the river, it’s going to get nasty, whether we like it or not!
I saw a post on my facebook feed where the person said that this right here may very well break our country. The guy is pretty smart and calls a lot of things. We’ll see.
Rest assured, Trump is selling us down the river, if not now then the next time he feels any heat! He got the MASSIVE tax cuts for Corporations and the Wealthy they were after when they fooled all of us into voting for them, so just want to ride out the rest of the term while gaining more and more brand name recognition for his businesses around the world!
Isn’t the BATFE part of the Department of Justice now? And the DoJ is in the executive branch? Would it be within the authority of the President as the head of the Executive Branch to offer direction to the agencies within his branch about pending decisions, like whether to reconsider bump stocks as machine gun parts?
I am very curious to see what that ban entails.
The problem is how congress originally described an automatic firearm. The BATFE read the law as passed and under Obama tried to squint hard enough to figure a way around it, but they couldn’t. If congress described it a different way originally, then they might have been able to rule against it when they first were looked at. The laws haven’t changed. If they ban them by reading outside the lines, then they are creating law and that is what made people mad at Obama.
