Brandon Herrera’s Finished AK-50!

The AK-50 is awesome! No word on an MSRP yet, lol.

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Brandon Herrera, aka the founder of The AK Guy Inc., debuted the latest version of his long-anticipated AK-50! After years of hard work and numerous trials, Herrera’s custom .50-caliber Kalashnikov is now fully finished and painted!

In the video embedded above, Herrera showcased the AK-50, highlighting several updates and improvements. One of the significant changes Herrera discussed was addressing the barrel whip observed in the previous version.

The initial muzzle brake caused excessive barrel movement due to its design, which vented more gas from the top, pushing the muzzle down too much. Herrera replaced it with a new muzzle brake that lacks these top cutaways, resulting in a dramatic reduction in barrel whip.

To demonstrate the improvements, Herrera enlisted the help of Ballistic High-Speed, who captured high-speed footage of the AK-50 firing. The comparison footage clearly showed the reduced barrel whip with the new muzzle brake.

Herrera didn’t stop at technical discussions; he showcased the AK-50’s firepower by shooting at a pyramid of White Claw cans (yum!), shredding them instantly! Definitely a sight to behold!

Addressing a common myth, Herrera disproved the idea that a .50-caliber round passing close by would cause lethal damage through concussive force. He demonstrated this by shooting between two claws, which remained intact, proving that the 50 cal is powerful but not magical!

Another notable addition to the AK-50 is the muzzle detent, allowing for easy removal of the muzzle brake, similar to standard AK designs. This little nugget enhances the firearm’s authenticity as an AK-style rifle.

For the grand finale, Herrera tested the AK-50’s power on a notoriously bad I.O. AK. Using a Raufoss MK 211 round, the AK-50 obliterated the target, splitting the gun in half!

The newly finished rifle, complete with a fresh coat of paint and a carry handle, has received positive feedback from viewers in a few short hours (over 7,000 comments and 200K views in 2 hours!).

Herrera plans to continue showcasing the AK-50 in future videos, inviting suggestions from his audience for new targets and experiments.

GunsAmerica would just like to add, congrats Brandon on your success! The AK-50 is badass!

A few word on the “concussion” effect. With handheld firearms (even 50 BMG) it won’t manifest in an “air environment” but in any liquid environment it is clearly noticeable and no need to use 50 BMG to observe it. Don’t know for big canon projectile.

Think if you re camber it in 12.7×108, there would be a certain country in Eastern Europe that would be a ready market for such an AK in that caliber. Don’t know the weight/barrel length, but assume that a 750 mm barrel, (~29 1/2″), would be a proper match for up either caliber. Would also assume that said Eastern European country would want a license to build either version of that AK in their country. Could be an inexpensive way to obtain funding for additional development of this concept. Think how the DEMOCRATs would react to such a development!
