BFG Helium Whisper - Lightweight Pouch Tech
Super light, but tough, helium whisper attachment

I was first introduced to Blue Force Gear’s Helium Whisper technology earlier this year, and came away very impressed. Helium Whisper is a new laser cut space ninja type fabric that weighs, as the name implies, nothing. Picking it up, you would think it might be fragile. On that count, you would be wrong. Despite feeling like nothing, as well as being very thin, you can’t tear it. I’d wager nobody outside of the world’s strongest man contestants have a prayer, and maybe not then. This stuff is tougher than the last gen Courdura quad stitch magic, despite being about a quarter the thickness. As soon as I got my first set of magazine pouches, I was already thinking about replacing EVERYTHING on my belt and armor. Every ounce counts, the weight savings is real when you start adding up pouches.

So today I am happy to show off some new pouches from the Helium Whisper line. Not only has BFG innovated in materials, but they are constantly improving the form and function of their equipment. Our three new ones reflect that.

BFG Helium Whisper - Lightweight Pouch Tech
Small but capable

First up is the Boo Boo pouch. This is a tiny little guy, and you may be wondering why you need it. Does it replace a full-size medical kit? No way. Is it a standalone medical pouch? Again, not a chance. The Boo Boo pouch is a supplemental med pouch, just big enough to hold a roll of medical tape, a couple Band-Aids, and maybe some Motrin packs. As in, the things you need all the time for non emergency bleeding, the kind common to days at the range or messing around in the woods. Can’t I just stick all that stuff in my real med pouch? Yes. But here is the problem. First of all, things that come out of the med pouch don’t always go back in. We are all guilty of that. And second, it is easy to bleed off supplies overtime for non emergencies, and then be short when a real one pops off. You don’t want to be the chucklehead that whips out an empty roll of tape when someone is hurt bad. The boo boo pouch prevents that, by providing a small reserve of “stuff” for day to day use.

Double ten-speed pouch

Next up is the ten speed double M4 pouch. This one is a minimalist open top pouch with stretchy elastic to provide the retention on the magazine. It is a very simple design, but packs enough snap to hold a magazine firmly in place no matter your activity. The plus side is how flat it rides, it is almost nonexistent without a magazine in it. It also has laser cut MOLLE loops on the front so you can stack pistol magazine pouches if you desire.

Belt slide Horizontal single mag pouch

Lastly is my favorite, and it isn’t for MOLLE at all. BFG is making a single pistol belt pouch that comes with a Velcro closure to make it ride vertically. And if you take that Velcro loop off, horizontally. And you all know what I think about horizontal magazine carry and CCW comfort. It is absolutely the bee’s knees, and nobody makes a pouch that does that. SO FINALLY!! FINALLY! I get to update my CCW mag carrier after like a decade. Seriously. I have been using a cut down Paraclete MOLLE pouch for like 10 years. I’ve even tried to buy newer single pistol mag pouches, but the MOLLE loops in the back are too small to accommodate a belt. The BFG is designed to work this way, and fits my First Spear belt like it was made for it. If you carry a reload day to day, you want this pouch. Trust me. I like this thing so much I might buy one in every color. The other stuff? Yeah, it’s cool. Get that when you have time or a need. This horizontal mag pouch? Run, don’t walk, to the store and grab it. This is one of the best CCW items I have seen in 10 years, and it will change your life.
