Say 'Goodbye' to Weaver! And 'Hello' to Picatinny!

Say ‘Goodbye’ to Weaver! And ‘Hello’ to Picatinny!

I am a hater of Weaver style bases, and I will make no apologies. If I could wave my magic wand and make one firearms accessory disappear, it would be anything with a Weaver slot. Why so hateful? Glad you asked.

Rimfire Shootout: Savage B-Series .17 HMR vs. .22 LR

I am relatively new to the .17 HMR cartridge. When it debuted in 2002, I was guilty of downplaying its effectiveness. Most of my life, Uncle Sugar bought me all the centerfire rounds a growing boy could want, so I didn’t have to worry about training ammo. Now that I have to buy my own [...]

The first thing that comes to mind when someone says Steiner to most U.S. veterans is the ubiquitous Steiner 10×50 binoculars. These were a staple in every unit I ever served in, and had a great reputation for clarity and toughness. German glass is legendary in sniper circles for clarity and lack of imperfections. I was never issued a Steiner, but I had enough of the other Kraut options to know I should jump at the chance to test a myriad of Steiner glass.

Let’s say, for a moment, that all the rifles in citizens’ hands disappeared today. What would be the easiest way for some hoodrat to get a “scary rifle,” not only with all the features Feinstein hates but with a giggle switch and a hi-cap mag to boot? I have that answer for you.

As we sit here in 2017, there probably isn’t a bigger controversy than whether an electronic red dot sight is acceptable for concealed carry.

An Affordable Quality Red Dot: Vortex Sparc AR

An Affordable Quality Red Dot: Vortex Sparc AR

One of the biggest problems in the past with red dot electronic sights is that they existed in exactly two categories. There was the super premium, salt water submergible, dust/ EMP proof, hostage rescue unit rated that cost roughly $800. It was a fantastic sight, but the price point for 1X magnification is about the [...]

To Port or Not to Port? S&W M&P 9L and 40 Ported Barrels — Full Review

To port or not to port? As with selecting any pistol, there are drawbacks and benefits. For those who are recoil sensitive and like to plink on the range — Smith & Wesson has got something for you. With the release of the M&P 2.0, there is also some other relatively new expansions from the M&P line. This week I got my hands on two very impressive pieces from the Performance Center, the 9L and 40 ported.

Who doesn’t love America’s favorite rifle — the AR-15. For the last few years, the AR-15 has rapidly become the 1911 of rifles. There are options for customization so thorough that companies like Brownells now ship a special catalog just for the options available. And every time I think everything possible has been done, a company proves me wrong. This week, Cobalt Kinetics shipped two models of rifle for testing, and I was not disappointed.
