Aftermarket specialist Apex Tactical Specialties has a real treat coming up for FN 509 owners, a tricked-out 5-inch longslide assembly. The Apex LongSlide kit is a drop-in upgrade for 509 owners and will be offered in a handful of different configurations.
This gives 509 owners an option FNS owners got a long time ago, and then some. Other features that come with the Apex LongSlide include an optics cut for Trijicon RMR-pattern mini red dot sights, a cover plate, standard or threaded barrels, and FN 509 XS 3-Dot night sights or black suppressor sights.
Apex’s LongSlide follows the lines of the original slide with a few tweaks that make it stand out as a custom kit. It has forward and rear slide serrations and lightening cuts up front at the muzzle.
It comes with Apex custom components including their Heavy Duty Striker assembly and their Failure Resistant Extractor upgrades and a hammer-forged barrel with a 1-in-10 twist. The extended, threaded barrel option has standard 1/2×28 threads and comes with a captive O-ring and thread protector.
Features and Specifications:
– 9mm Hammer-Forged Premium Barrel (Threaded or Standard)
– Apex Heavy Duty Striker
– Apex Failure Resistant Extractor
– RMR Pattern Optic Cut w/ Cover Plate
– Standard XS 3-Dot Night Sights or Black/Black Suppressor Sights
– Front & Rear Cocking Serrations
– Stainless or Black Melonite Finish
– MSRP: $600.00 (complete)
The barrels have a polished black nitride finish and the slide itself is stainless steel, offered in the white for a two-tone look or with a matching black nitride finish.

The Apex 509 LongSlide kit comes fully assembled and ready to shoot. One thing that shouldn’t shock FN owners is the cost: it is a bit pricey at $600 but considering it includes other internal Apex upgrades it’s not outrageous.
Plus for competition shooters or people who want to get the most muzzle velocity out of their barrels for self-defense, it’s the only option for the FN 509 at this time.
FN may have plans to introduce a full-size longslide 509 like they have with the FNS series, but they are also continuing to expand the series in general and there’s no way to know when and ultimately if they will have a factory option any time soon.
The Apex 509 LongSlide kit will be available to order this week. For more information about these and other enhanced 509 accessories and components visit Apex Tactical Specialties online.
rather trick out a Glock 34
Aren’t they heavy enough without adding extra sllide?
The FN 509 looks great. I’d love to have one. But is anyone making a sharp .45 anymore, reasonably priced, and with a mag that carries more than 8 rounds? Just wondering.
These government handouts and a prediction of a Biden win has people going crazy buying guns. It’s hard to find what one really wants at a gun shop these days.
