“It’s a way to assert our strength,” told Jake Allen, 27, who helped form the group, The Star.com.
“Often, queer people are thought of as being weak, as being defenceless, and I think in many ways this pushes back against that,” Allen continued. “And I want white supremacists and neo-Nazis to know that queer people are taking steps necessary to protect themselves.”

I’m all for more responsible people exercising their right to keep and bear arms. Right or left, gay or straight, black or white — it doesn’t matter to me. I encourage every law-abiding citizen to purchase firearms (on GunsAmerica, preferably).
The reason is twofold. First, if we don’t use it, we lose it. Millions of Americans already own guns. Millions more taking the plunge and learning the value of the 2A will only mean it’ll be that much harder for anti-gunners to disarm America.
Second, spreading firearms literacy has the potential to reduce gun-related violence, specifically accidental shootings and suicides. When it comes to the safe use and storage of firearms, ignorance can get one killed. Why anyone would stand in the way of teaching the masses the basics of responsible gun ownership is beyond me. Knowlege is power, as they say.

Oh, and of course, there is the other little bonus about an armed society — it’s a safer one. Concealed carriers in the public square save lives every day in this country. You won’t see on the mainstream news, but it does happen all the time.
All that to say, kudos to the Trigger Warning Queer & Trans Gun Club. Teaching others to take responsibility for their safety is a great achievement. But they shouldn’t be surprised if it leads to members abandoning the Democratic party and its anti-2A agenda.
See, as a lawful gun owner, it becomes impossible not confront the DNC’s big lie: that you are more safe when you are less free to defend yourself. Sooner or later one awakens to the fact that gun control is antithetical to personal safety. At which point, Feinstein, Schumer, and Pelosi are seen as the foes to freedom they really are.
To many their sexual preference is the offense, not the actions within that preference. There are creeps in every slice of society. They must remember that they can only exist in a tolerating culture. If they convince too many people that they really are imbalanced in some way, the toleration can change quickly.

You will need to look in gun related magazines like the ones put out by the NRA and other such, they tell the story of who, where, when and how in shirt form. As a rule the media will not show anything that doesn’t fit their “Gun’s bad” narrative. Like most things you will need to look for it. The last I heard it was around 200+K per year where a citizen uses a firearm to stop a threat or a crime in progress. Many carjackers get shot almost daily in this country.
If they at least know how to use and acquire weapons then they won’t be susceptible to the antigun fake news and “stats” that runs through the media.

I agree. The problem is I and I’m sure many of you don’t want a fight. We have firearms in case things go south but pray that they never do. This is antagonistic if you ask me. The fact they feel the need to have a club to train to fight anti right groups just shows you that they want a fight. This ain’t for sports, entertainments, hunting, or even self defense which they claim. They are so against everything else the right stands for….except for guns now cuz they know if a fight DID happen they would be outmatched. As far as I’m concerned they are making exceptions and exceptions show there is something wrong with their beliefs and if that’s the case they need to take a hard look at all they believe. The anger of this group is what makes them suspect. As another fellow said, if they were just who they are, wanting to exercise their 2A rights, and learn about firearms, perhaps get a concealed carry permit, fine, but being belligerent about it, just ticks off folks who are not into their alternative lifestyle. They would have more success, if in their firearm related interest, they bonded with others who share the same interest, and they would find they would be accepted because of that, unless of course, they are also pushing for blanket approval of their lifestyle with the attitude depicted in the cartoon.
It’s great they want to arm up for self defense, but their perception of who their enemy is, may be a bit skewed. I’m a straight, middle-aged, retired military, white male. I would not hesitate to shoot with these people and share my love of guns and all human life. If I could teach or share gun safety and shooting tips, I would do that as well. Getting close enough to them for them to trust me would be way harder than me allowing them into my camp. The door is open. Bring your guns and ammo and let’s have a fun, safe, and productive day at the range. Welcome to the 2A awareness club.

I agree, with some hesitation. The confidence and security learned from shooting and other forms of self-sufficient behavior are things I wish everyone American had – including the left. Plus, it’s obvious how empowering this was for them and how much fun they had doing it. So, perhaps they will even realize many of their pre-conceived notions about the right are mistaken. My only hesitation, in this instance, is that the left IS actually the violent side of the political spectrum. So-called “right wingers” have owned armories for decades with rarely any incident of violence. Yet the left considers the burning of a couple of gay pride flags and a peaceful march by a small number of white nationalists as deserving of a violent response? Until they begin to tone down their rhetoric, stop the violent protests, and stop attacking those who disagree with them, I worry this has the potential to get very ugly.
It’s a shame that the article was about a gay community feeling like they needed to arm themselves against another group and not simply about how the gay community has a general interest in firearms. I know plenty of gay people who just like to shoot as a hobby or go hunting for that matter. They aren’t the stereotypic flying flakes who cringe at the sight of a firearm as some people would believe – that’s FAR from the truth. I’ll bet the majority of the gay community in the USA who have firearms have them simply for the same reason/s I do and not some mounting belief that the extreme right – or some other anti-gay group is going to start hunting them down to kill them in a civil war – although the massacre at that gay bar in Florida was a gay targeted incident (by a radical Islamic asshole – not a neo Nazi). Otherwise, other than that incident, a large scale movement to go after the gay community as a whole is rubbish. In my opinion, the article should at least mention that is some context. If anything, gays should be more worried about Radical Islam than white supremacist or neo-Nazis.
On another note, practically all the gay I know don’t give a rats ass about what we think of them and have respect for our beliefs. I don’t know any gay people who outwardly push their acceptance on straight people or believe their life style should override my religious or other personal beliefs. Obviously, there are radicals and agenda-pushers in EVERY group of EVERY kind. Personally, I believe if they can have a gay pride parade where some of them walk about in S&M outfits, then I should be able to have a parade with a theme about being white isn’t a bad thing. It’s no secret from my gay friends that, as a Christian, it’s my accepted belief that their life style is a sin. But it’s not up to me to judge them in that capacity – that’s God’s job. Their decision over who they sleep with doesn’t cause me pain, threaten my family or diminish my income. As such, I could give a flip about who they choose to be with and will gladly welcome them into my 2A community. Although some people might believe differently, God’s teachings don’t have to come with the 2A.
Agree with the author that overall the GLBTWHATEVER crowd is as entitled to the exercise of their Second Amendment Rights as the rest of us. Also, that’s probably going to result in more support from the general population for 2A.
The idea of taking personal responsibility for ones own safety is radical to some of those folks.
And who knows? Might even help them think straighter in other ways. (Yeah, I’m shameless. 😄 )
I have always said that if the National Organization for Women were really concerned about women’s safety, N.O.W. should make sure all women become NRA members, then N.O.W. should pay for their firearms training as well.
After viewing the AP video associated with this post I have a little advice for the The Trigger Warning Queer & Trans Gun Club: Please train these new gun users proper gun handling. Don’t just show them how to load a shotgun and pull the trigger! Even if they manage to hit a target they are not considered experienced gun handlers.
Without proper instruction you are likely doing these folks and their circle of friends a great amount of harm. What I am referring to is, that I saw in the video, a person fires an aerial shot downrange and in the same range of motion, racks in another round as the muzzle of the shotgun sweeps the ground and toward bystander’s feet. (I believe I saw that type of behavior in the video more that once… but admittedly I was not there in person.) Keep weapons pointed up, and downrange, without a finger on the trigger is RULE #1.
Hopefully, training will also extend beyond long guns, to all guns. 12 gauge long shotguns are not a first choice for self defense. Big and bad guns are deadly to friends and family in the next room, next apartment, or next door.

We used to have a lesbian couple in my gun club. They were a bit worried at first but after a while found they were not only accepted by almost all but were welcomed as friends. Yes a few old slugs wouldn’t accept them even though they never did a thing in public. They were just two ladies shooting with us along with several other women.

The overwhelming majority of these same people support a civil union of some type, which conveys most of the same rights and privileges. Marriage is between a man and a woman, and nothing else. This predates Christianity and every other religion, from the beginning of time. It is recognized by every religion and culture around the world. Homosexuality is a lifestyle choice, not an immutable characteristic, and therefore should not be offered any special privileges. Other than peacefully opposing \”gay marriage\”, the people are in no way oppressing gays, and certainly aren\’t out to \”get\” them. No, that would be the Religion of Peace which goes out of their way to hunt them down and kill them (as in Pulse massacre). And among the groups who supposedly DO mean them harm (neo-Nazis), they are leftists/socialists, not right wing conservatives. The Dems are the home of hate, not the Right. Islam (who hates and kills everyone not like them, as the Quran directs), The Klan (Democrats from the beginning), Nazis (socialists aligned with Dems), BLM (Dem/socialist racists), AntiFA (violent socialist/anarchists) and many lesser known radicals are violence prone and aligned with the Dems/Left. There is yet to be any organized group of conservative Republicans who set out to oppress any group, violently or otherwise. I have some gay friends, mainly people that work with me. Over the last 10 years or so I have taken those that wanted to go along to my gun club. All but one Loved it!
They started by buying .22 rifles, then some bigger calibers. Most got their CCW permit as well. They started out with .22 Rugers mostly.
They now love the sport, and also understand how much longer they Will live if they are armed after they call 911..if they have the time anyway, as opposed to Only having the phone. It’s the difference between surviving, or Hoping they catch YOUR killer!

I think you’ll probably find that they’ll fall into the left side of the 2A bell curve. They will hold their rights as gay Americans above their rights as gun owning Americans, because that is how they first identify. This gun club is a reaction to a perceived threat- not a random upswell of interest from what is typically perceived as an anti 2A population .
I don’t think you’ll see many (if any) of them abandoning the Democratic Party- simply for the reason that the Republican Party is actively trying to strip them of their rights to marry, parent, share insurance, and supports them being denied service by business owners just because of their orientation etc etc. Gun ownership will, by no means, outweigh the rest of their concerns.
I think most of these folks will, indeed, become far more 2A “friendly”, as in, they will exercise their right to keep and bear arms, but almost all will be pro “common sense gun reform” – which would probably include, at the very least, support of universal background checks, closing of gunshow loopholes, bans on high cap magazines, keeping suppressors tightly regulated, and, perhaps, going as far as supporting another assault weapon ban.
Maybe some of them will become full on “gun nuts”, but I wouldn’t count on it.
The only thing being “demanded” of them is a respect for the rights of others. Some of them want their rights, like to a gay wedding, to be more important than the religious rights of those who don’t wish to accommodate them.

Right on. I know quite a few folks in the LGBT (no Q’s) community and they will, without exception, place their tribe above country and supporting the Second Amendment. Your religious beliefs and rights don’t matter scat to them; they believe you should give up your rights to satisfy what they perceive as their rights. It is not a two way street where if you accept and respect their rights, then they return in kind. And, the Dems play them like a fiddle, as they do women.

Agree. Took a guy and his guy shooting. Was a Bushmaster XM-15 no less. They were nervous at first as they have never messed with firearms. Well, they may be gay men, but men they still are. They shot up about 350 rounds of ammo and have a pretty decent understanding of how to bump fire an AR.

And whether one sees the access to and competency of firearms as potential protection from some right-wing mob, or Antifa-types (one of which actually exists), it is encouraging to see Americans come to understand the very simple and basic meaning of our Second Amendment. I echo Blannelberry’s list of positives and welcome them to the club. I hope they find good trainers, learn well, and stay safe.

I am not trying to be sarcastic but they weren’t trying to push the 2A envelope with those pump shotguns and single shot .22’s. They are very aware of their voting patterns and despite “tooling up”, they’ll always be for more government and more restrictions.
I hope they are smart enough to not line up with the nra to protect their 2A rights. nra is nothing more then a fund raising organization that lines their own pockets.
