Anti-Gunners Pounce on Biker Gunfight: ‘We need more laws’

in Authors, S.H. Blannelberry

What’s the best way to stop people who don’t follow laws from obtaining firearms? More laws!

Yup, that’s basically what we’re hearing from the gun-control community in the wake of the biker bloodbath in Waco, Texas, that left nine dead and 18 hospitalized.

Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety, gun-control organizations funded by Michael Bloomberg, twitted the following on Monday:

“Dear #Texas lawmakers: more guns in more places with fewer safeguards not winning strategy for public safety #txlege #WacoShooting #GunSense.”

“#WacoShooting should be wake up call for #txlege: stop taking orders from gun lobby; listen to police and constituents @MomsDemand #GunSense.”

Right, because universal background checks would have stopped bikers from getting their hands on firearms. But seriously, that’s what they believe.

“There is no single solution to ending gun violence, but we do know that background checks on all gun sales save lives and keep guns out of the wrong hands,” said Angela Turner, spokeswoman for the Texas branch of Moms Demand Action, in an interview with The Hill.

“Everything is big in Texas,” said Jonathan Hutson, spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. “Including big biker shootouts and even bigger loopholes that allow criminals and other dangerous people to buy guns without a Brady background check at gun shows and online.”

What Watts, Turner, and Hutson don’t understand or neglect to acknowledge is that the vast majority of criminals don’t buy firearms through legal channels, they steal them, buy them on the black market, borrow them from friends, or use straw purchasers to get their guns. Saying that this gunfight is a wake up call for universal background checks or tougher gun laws makes zero sense. If anything, what it’s a wake up call for is gang activity. We should be targeting organized crime, not the Second Amendment.

Lies, Lies, Lies. How can they get away, after so long, claiming that people can get guns online without a background check? Sure, anyone can buy and pay for a gun online. BUT IF THEY CAN’T PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK THEY WON’T EVER GET THEIR HANDS ON THE GUN. Gun sales sites, like Gunbrokers, don’t hook the buyer directly up with the seller, the transaction is handled through the site. Then the seller has to send the gun n to the buyer. And guns can only be shipped from one FFL holder to another. You can’t get the gun sent to you, iy has to go to you, through a gun dealer near where you live. And even though you’ve already paid for it, that dealer near you will not give it to you until he has complied with every applicable state and federal law. Which includes, at a minimum, the background check. There IS NO internet loophole. So how do they keep getting away with it? Quite simply, most anti-gunners are ignorant about actual gun laws, so they believe whatever they’re told. Some organization with the funds to do so needs to start an effective campaign to debunk this internet loophole nonsense.

seems as though almost all of the shooting was done by the LEOs, not the bikers.

The part of the argument for universal background checks that I just don’t understand (as opposed to the parts I do understand but disagree with) is the bit about “online” sales. Can anyone explain how to buy a gun online without a background check? I actually spoke with a couple of “Moms” at a local event and they couldn’t tell me.
I know that you can “buy” a modern firearm online, but to take possession you need to make a face-to-face transfer with an 01FFL who will run the check. Where is this nirvana where you can circumvent Federal law? Yes, it’s just one more part of the anti-gun disinformation campaign, but where did this myth get started?

I heard one police stuffed uniform official say something to the effect of “nobody needs to be carrying a gun in a restaurant.” Meaning something akin to “if you have a gun in a restaurant it’s because you’re a criminal or looking for trouble.” I couldn’t believe it, and from Texas of all places!
I don’t know how that guy is affiliated with the PD but his sentiments are totally contrary to a citizen being responsibly armed and innocent until proven guilty. i wish I’d caught his name. Made me sick.

Yeah, that LEO needs to talk with Susanna Hupp.

They should start with law enforcement officers. Seems too many of our fellow Americans are falling victim to their murder and assults. They need to have single shot rifles and ten round magazines. People need to realize that law enforcement does not keep track of how many people they murder each year, the CDC keeps track of it though, it’s considered righteous kill. Why don’t they keep track? Guess?

    I git 2 issues here.
First, do they know exactly how stupid they sound? “but we do know that background checks on all gun sales save lives and keep guns out of the wrong hands,” said Angela Turner. Looks like it worked really good here huh? And they just keep going…
Second, this is fishy. The cops knew who would be there. The cops knew that there would be trouble. The cops were “threatened” so they started shooting. No cops hurt. One or two civilians hurt. 9 or so bikers killed. How come all biker deaths were head-shots????????? No cops injured to justify their use of deadly force! The cops had all their firepower ready for this mass execution! Just another test just to see how the populace would react. First, small, fringe groups. If they don’t get too much blow-back, they will work their way up to the more “socially acceptable” groups that the fed disapproves of. Your turn’s coming!!!!

I am so tired of these liberal anti gun weenies crying more laws, more background checks, and all the other rhetoric they spew and all they accomplish is showing the entire world how flaming stupid they are.

Criminals are just that, criminals. They don’t care about your laws, they do not get their guns at gun shops or any other place where they could be connected with the gun because they are going to use the gun for illegal purposes and
do not want it traced back to them. They will either steal the guns or buy them on the black market, and by the way mom’s demand action and everytown bloomburg puppets, the black market is also an illegal entity and they do not, repeat, do not do background checks.
So, I conclude with a question to these idiot anti gun people; Why do you insist on demonstrating to the entire world how flaming stupid you are? GUNS are what made this nation free and they are what will keep it free until people like you, Bloomburg, Obama, and other dictators succeed in taking all the firearms from all the people. By the way that is always the first move by all dictators. Remove all firearms, then all books, then freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, then etc., etc., and you end up with communism and nobody is free anymore. Wake up people!

Typical. Liberals try to use every incident as another excuse to try to restrict the rights of gun owners. These biker gangs are called “gangs” for a reason! Pass another 1,000 laws and you can bet they will violate another 1,000 laws. Wake up.

Al, My daddy always told me that when your in a car with so called friends and the car gets pulled over, if the officer search’s that car and finds drugs ,I will go to jail just as the guilty in that car.
I feel for the retired detective and his family but he should have watched who he was riding with.
    “Thus endeth the lesson”

Whenever I see these Bloomturd inspired clowns on the comment blogs I accuse them of being traitors to the constitution.
You can’t cherry pick the constitution.

  • Al May 20, 2015, 4:43 pm

One of the arrested bikers was also a retired detective.

  • Pat_Riot56 May 19, 2015, 11:03 pm

To Mums Demand Action, et al, keep your sorry business out of Texas. We can take care of our problems without your inane meddling. Please go away and leave us alone now. We don’t need your opinions about what we need or don’t need in the way of gun laws. What you saw in Waco was an anomaly. Outlaw biker gangs are just that by definition. They are not part of the majority, meaning those of us who obey the law; those of us who carry responsibly. So, please butt out and leave us alone.

Shocking. Politicos jump on a headline to push their agenda of death to liberty, damn the logic or the reality of the situation. Clearly, any number of laws that don’t already exist would have prevented these folks who don’t give two sh’s about any of the existing gun laws from obtaining guns or using them. These asshats would be far better served pushing for a ban on murder or a new law against assaulting someone…maybe these thugs would abide by th….oh never mind.
At the end of the day, just come to expect that the Brady group, the moms group and their ilk will never go away and have no problems shouting from the top of graves to spread their agenda. As 2a advocates we just need to continue to be vigilant in our support for the organizations that fight for us and to speak the truth when presented with these situations. No laws stop biker gangs…
