Amy Schumer is angry. She’s angry about the terrorist attack in Orlando, and she’s angry because Congress hasn’t figured out how to keep people from breaking the law.
“I am sickened by the cowardice of these people who are supposed to lead us,” the comedian told Politico. “Their dedication seems to be only to dollar signs for their own pockets. In November, we will remember who stood with the gun lobby, rather than their constituents, as we mourned for Orlando.”
To prove just how angry and sickened she is, she released a video last week that puts the screws Congress for not passing more “common sense” gun control legislation.
The video depicts an injury lawyer, played by H. Jon Benjamin, who explains that he can’t do anything for victims of mass shootings.
“Have you ever been injured in a mass shooting or other gun crime? Do you want justice?” the lawyer asks. “Hi, I’m Toby Shrak of the law firm of Shrak and Murphy, but don’t call me, because there’s nothing I can do.”
The victims then recount their experiences, explaining how they’ve been unable to get justice for themselves or their loved ones because Congress hasn’t passed appropriate gun control legislation.
It’s a brilliant bit, but there’s just one problem: Amy Schumer doesn’t know anything about gun laws.
The first of Congress’s failures she attacks is the oft-repeated lie that the gun industry has special immunity. “It’s not even worth it to try suing gun and ammo manufacturers because the law gives them almost complete immunity from liability,” Benjamin says.
It’s true that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act disallows frivolous lawsuits against the gun industry. But that law was not passed to give the gun industry special immunity. Rather, it was passed to protect the gun industry from costly, pointless lawsuits. The firearms industry is still liable for negligence just like every other economic sector.
For example, as the act itself explains, firearms dealers are expressly prohibited from selling a firearm “when the seller knows, or reasonably should know, the person to whom the product is supplied is likely to, and does, use the product in a manner involving unreasonable risk of physical injury to the person or others.”
The victim in the video complains that she can’t sue a gun manufacturer for allowing its semi-automatic rifle to be “easily” converted into an automatic rifle. This begs the question: If a company’s product is modified before being used to commit a crime, doesn’t that modification absolve the company of wrongdoing? Their product was clearly not designed to operate in that fashion—why should they be held accountable for its use? (Assuming a company can be held accountable for a product’s use.)
The second patently false claim Schumer makes is that a gun seller can’t be sued if they release a gun before a background check is completed. Every gun shop dealer (FFL) – whether at a brick and mortar store or a gun show – has to perform a background check, and they are not permitted to release a gun to a customer until that background check has been completed.
Schumer appears to be referencing the rule that says if the FBI fails to make a determination within three business days, the seller is allowed to release the gun. But she presents the information as if the seller acts negligently and the victim is unable to get justice.
By the end of the video, it’s painfully obvious that Schumer is either intentionally misrepresenting the truth or that she just has no idea what she’s talking about. Maybe, rather parroting Hillary Clinton’s gun control platform, Schumer should have considered doing a bit of her own research into how United States gun law actually works.
The only thing this cow knows is how to eat vast quantities of crap. She also opens her big fat filth hole to comment on things she has no knowledge of. Pretty typical for the liberal elitist she thinks she is. She truly is a vile form of humanity.
The loony left wants everything to be up for a law suit because it is then a lottery ticket for the people and a bonanza for these bottom feeding scum sucking lawyers. Why is medication so expensive? One reason is these bottom feeders suing if someone has an allergic reaction to a new medication. Have you ever read the human trials results of a medication test? People have reactions to the sugar pills some get instead of the real drug. Our court system is a disaster because they make these bottom feeding attorneys into judges who create new laws with their stupid bench decisions.
Guess the victims in France will sue the truck maker…right?
Somebody please shut this girl up!!!
Well, it isn’t that she doesn’t know the law, it’s that she’s one of those illogical fools who should be prevented from having anything to do with our laws, except abide by them.
Words have meaning, and there is No other place that this isn’t most important than in our laws and our courts.
If we allowed people like her of little common sense to participate in the drafting of these laws, our Court System would be a complete cluster f**k.
People like to tell us it isn’t black and white, but that’s exactly what our laws should be.
And people like are her haven’t the intellect to comprehend that.
Typical liberal doublespeak. Make stuff up and get their ignoramuses all riled up. Can’t use facts to deal with them, because they couldn’t care less about the facts. BTW, Amy-poo, shouldn’t you be blaming that fork manufacturer for making your ass fat, your teachers for making you ignorant, and your mom for making you a b*tch?
Why would anyone care what a comedian — and a completely not funny one at that — has to say about anything? Her awful comedy routine boils down to “Oh I’m so disgusting and fat and I’m such a whore!” Unintelligent potty humor. How about a tall, cool glass of STFU, Amy.
Amy Schumer is a fat cow, related to that idiot Chuck Schumer. I have tuned her out so she won’t be getting a dime from me watching any of her comedy. Just another celeb that made a few bucks then just assumed that she had a message that she thought the American public wanted to hear. Fuck her and her career.
Why the hell should a gun or ammunition company be sued for producing a product that functions exactly the way it was designed to do? Should a truck manufacturer be sued when a radical terrorist a-hole plows through a crowd with its powerful engine? Maybe she should be sued for making a crappy movie that could have provoked that loony to shoot up the theater where it was playing.
If whiny Miss Schumer does not like living in a country where gun ownership is legal, there are plenty of other places to live.
What do you expect from someone who gets her info and talking points from the dirt bag senator from new yuck, chuckie shumer. Oh, she’s his cousin, too. It’s like watching an ugly bowl of jello blabbing!!!
It’s not “cowardice” to SIDE WITH THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS who elected them; It’s NEVER cowardice to refrain from INFRINGING on the Rights of the American People.
She should stick to talking about her diseased vagina…she is certainly an expert on that sorry subject.
I believe her anger is caused by stupidity and excessive weight gain. There is no other explanation.
Here is a prime example of why lack of shame is a bad thing. Lie, lie and lie. Get caught, and just lie and lie some more. Easily converted to automatic. Hahahahahahaha, sure.

Isn’t one Rosie O’Donnell enough ? Amy get’s voice because she is related to Chucky one of the chief airheads
Why does ANYBODY care what Amy Schumer thinks about ANYTHING? She’s a No-Nothing Dork!
Why do I give a rat’s ass what Amy Schumer thinks?
Amy Schumer, Tina Fey, and their intellectual godfather Loren Michaels of Saturday Night Live seem to think campaigning against civil rights – any civil right enumerated in the Constitution – has no downside.
Unfortunately, Mr. Sam Bacile learned that making fun of the one religion our current President doesn’t criticize can result in trumped-up charges on a technicality placing him in jail, despite the fact that the First Amendment specifically protected his right to speak freely, and his right to speak about religion without the consequences of breaking a law against blasphemy.
Mr. Bacile was effectively punished for blasphemy. If he’d never posted “The Innocence of Muslims” on YouTube, he’d never have had trouble from the Federal government. Sam Bacile was indeed prosecuted because he blasphemed against the Muslim prophet Muhammad.
You’ll never find Amy Schumer being outraged about that, because she obviously believes denial of a civil right ought to be a dark line the Federal Government should cross only when the existence of the country’s in peril. While all feeling people mourn the deaths in Orlando, we also mourn the death tolls in train, car and aircraft accidents without calling for trains, cars and airplanes to be outlawed.
That’s because we humans have the ability to balance risk and benefit. In a country with 300 million guns in private hands, the fact that our national death toll due to homicide with guns is 11,208 (so that three thousandths of a percent of privately-owned firearms used by one person to kill another, a large portion of those shootings being justifiable in self defense or subduing armed suspects who won’t surrender) leads most Americans to conclude that the benefits of the Second Amendment as it is written outweigh its social risks.
When Amy Schumer goes off on Republicans in Congress, she’s actually going off on the people who put them there. To her, democracy’s well and good when she likes its results, but only a top-down imperial Presidency knows which civil rights to enforce and which to trample. Obama and his party have trampled most of the Bill of Rights during his administration.
As a rational human being, I grieve for the loss of every American life to senseless and hateful acts, but I also believe that denying people their rights under the Constitution is not a cure for that. It is the lamentable consequence of a cowardice much less comprehensible that the one Schumer talks about. I wish she’d move to a country where she can take on the chains of an unwritten Constitution and wear them proudly – and leave sane Americans alone.
typo: I ought to have said “You’ll never find Amy Schumer being outraged about that, because she obviously DOESN’T believe denial of a civil right ought to be a dark line the Federal Government should cross only when the existence of the country’s in peril.”
Whoa, you’re backing the wrong horse there buddy. “Sam Bacile” was actually an alias for Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, an Egyptian career criminal who was on parole for drug manufacturing and tax evasion when he “exercised his rights” to free speech. Turns out pretending to be a Jew to stir up Semitic backlash was a violation of his parole, and an easy ticket back to jail.
It’s this kind “speak first, think second” rhetoric that makes gun proponents look stupid, and plays into the hands of the anti-gun lobby,
You’re either misinformed or spreading misinformation purposefully.
“Turns out pretending to be a Jew to stir up Semitic backlash” isn’t a prosecutable offense.
Bacile did, indeed, violate his probation – by using the Internet. That’s the only offense the Justice Department could find to charge him with. While he deserves to do time for breaking probation, he’d never have seen the inside of a jail if he hadn’t uploaded speech the President and his henchman Attorney-General Eric Holder didn’t like to YouTube. This is what we called “selective prosecution” in law enforcement.
I thought my post out very carefully. It’s a shame your reading comprehension and general intelligence suck.
I had to quit watching SNL because I was sick of being preached at by millenials about how my need to protect my family was the cause of society’s ills. Luckily, it’s not funny anymore so I’m not missing anything.
All I heard was wahwa wawah wahwa. Enough of the peanuts cartoon. Time to change the channel.
Maybe she should drop some weight…what the heck happened to her? Is she trying to bulk up for a shot at The View? The problem is the other idiots who will believe her because they’re just as ignorant. We need set up some Gun Free Zones (northern half of Illinois, NE Maryland, Oahu, LA valley) and wall the Hoplophobes in for their own safety…followed by ignoring them when things start looking like Escape from NY/LA
I lived in Colorado from 2001-2013 and saw the hoplophobes of California flock there in great numbers, then vote in a Democratic State Assembly which immediately began to Californicate with Coloradans’ civil rights to the point that the northern tier of Colorado counties held a referendum on whether they should secede from the state.
A secession referendum statewide in Colorado would leave a leftist authoritarian state comprising Denver and Boulder surrounded by the rest of Colorado. Since Denver hosts the State Assembly and state government, I suppose they’d retain the right to the name “Colorado” (Coloradans have already come up with other names, some of them even printable), so most of Colorado would have to call itself something else. “Alta Colorado” would be nice on several levels, since “Alta” means “high” and so it can refer to spiritual and moral loftiness or the use of Colorado’s most famous and lucrative cash crop these days.
I mention this because Amy Schumer talks as though the Republicans in Congress just wandered into Capitol Hill on their own, instead of being elected to represent far more than half of the country’s Congressional Districts, the residents of which disagree with her and her belief that guns are volitional entities that cause all death and violence in America. Psychologists call that “magical thinking” and it ought to be recognized as such in conversations about gun control. Schumer’s a crackpot.
Another idiot celeb that believes someone else is responsible for her safety and security. All well and good while you can afford hired guns. What about peolel that can’t afford it? What just happened to Top Gun Actress Kelly McGillis? Attacted in her own home. Shum you are not that funny and your career and cash flow will slow way down, you better save some cash to continue that false sense of security. Call Kelly and ask how she felt and if she wants a gun? Then tell her YOU don’t want her to have one. I hope the day doesn’t come when you wish you had a gun but if it does I hopy all your stupid anti gun remarks play over in your head even though you will not find much comfort there.
