At SHOT Show 2022, Daniel Defense announced the release of their RIII series of AR-pattern rifles. Designed to be lighter and more flexible, these new rifles feature completely ambidextrous lowers and utilize the all-new RIII M-LOK handguards.
The RIII rail system maintains the same bolt-up plate as the RII rails while utilizing M-LOK cuts to provide a light but robust system.
By using the same bolt-up plate, Daniel Defense said swapping between RII and RIII rails would be a breeze. The rifles also feature QD sling swivel holes machined into the handguard.
As of now, the RIII uppers will only be sold as part of a complete rifle, but Daniel Defense said that RIII uppers and rails would be available by themselves sometime around June 2022.
Taking pre-orders now and shipping soon Daniel Defense will be offering four rifle/SBR variants:
- DD4 RIII (16″ Barrel)
- M4A1 RIII (14.5″ Barrel)
- DD4 RIII (11.5″ Barrel)
- MK18 RIII (10.3″ Barrel)
Currently, no pistol versions are available, and the three versions with barrels less than 16 inches will be NFA items. Hopefully, by June the uppers will be available by themselves so consumers will have the option to configure these ARs however they see fit.
With completely ambidextrous controls, the RIII rifles are ready to go for both left- and right-handed shooters.
