Actor Will Smith’s Gun Safety Demonstration Goes Viral

in Authors, Current Events, S.H. Blannelberry, This Week

Actor Will Smith is making the rounds this week promoting his new film, “Bad Boys for Life,” co-staring the mercurial Martin Lawrence.

In one behind-the-scenes clip posted to Instagram, Smith demonstrates how to respond when someone unwittingly points a firearm in your direction.

Check it out:

Will added the caption, “It’s BAD Boys.  Not UNSAFE Boys.”  And in the video, states, “Terrible gun safety,” in reference to the dude’s poor muzzle awareness.

As we all know, there are four rules to firearm safety:

  • #1 Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.
  • #2 Never let the muzzle cover anything that you are not willing to destroy.
  • #3 Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
  • #4 Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it.

Clearly, others, especially those new to firearms, need to be reminded.

The Instagram clip has over 3.1 million views and 7,000 comments.  Smith & Wesson, the Massachusetts-based firearms manufacturer, even responded to the video.

“100% proper way to correct someone who flags you! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸” said S&W.

While Hollywood is often at odds with the gun community, here is an instance where we can all get behind the same message: BE SAFE! Learn the Rules of Firearm Safety!

This vid is too late for Alec

While I praise Will for this much needed demonstration, there was one thing that he missed before handing the gun back to the guy. You see it only briefly as he hands it back, and you can tell they edited the video because of this mistake. It is as will is handing the gun back, but once it is in the other guy’s hand the issue was resolved.

    See it?

What is it? Got me curious

He handed it back to him cocked. Should have pointed it at the ground and lowered the hammer before handing it back to him.

One major reason (among a hundred or so other reasons) I hate gun shows is, because I’ve had this same thing happen to me several times. The worst time was when an empty cranial cavity individual standing at arms length from me, used the right side of my head ( my ear) as his sighting point. The “vendor” said nothing, so I had to take the gun away from the individual (with a few terms of endearment being exchanged). Security and show organizers were called, and sheepishly asked me to leave — me! A few months later, I heard this same promoter was dealing with a accidental discharge into a patron at one of his shows.

    Gee, who’d a thunk it?

Completely fake and staged. C’mon. If you believe this just happened, and all of those tight, crisp, well-lit, well-focused camera angles were luck, you are a movie producer’s dream. This is fantasy.

Of course it’s fake and staged. But the message is right on. There’s no denying that.

The reason liberals are all for taking guns away from the rest of the population is because if they ever found or bought a firearm, there’s every reason to believe they’d shoot the foot off, …………. so better to be safe and disarm the entire population to save them from their own stupidity.

I always liked Will Smith, but now I have a whole new respect for him.

1000% agree with the Basis of this article.
    Don’t care about the politics.

Looks fake and staged to me.

    Good on Will.

    Class act version of a gun-safety *bitch-slap*.

    VERY well played.

    Todd.

An actor who is always waving guns around and pointing them at people every time he makes a movie. NOT a person I am going to listen to for advise. He also is rumored to be playing for both teams, so I really don’t listen to him or watch him.

Slapping it away from you – yeah.

Snatching it out of his hand – IF it’s loaded, and IF the idiot’s finger is on the trigger, you just got shot.

And if he’s stupid enough to be waving it at me, and I took it away from him, I certainly would not give it back.

? Really? You have no martial arts training or skills? There is a technique- it does consider the muzzle and trigger.. and the difference in going to be shot and maybe get shot and saving your life..
