The 2018 SHOT Show starts next week! If you are new here at GunsAmerica Digest, we cover a 4 day show for 4 weeks. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning, starting next week, we’ll be sending a full Digest with up to 12 stories and usually videos each day. Expect our regular Monday GunsAmerica Digest during these four weeks (reviewing many new products from the show we got in advance), and GunsAmerica This Week on Friday.
With so many new products and breaking news at the show, it’s impossible for us to boil it down into one Digest. That’s why we’ve launched “12 Days of SHOT.” Last year I think we published over 120 stories. Crazy, I know. No one else in gun media brings the funk like we do.
This year we plan to top that. We’re leaving no stone unturned. We are going to descend on Sin City like locusts, canvassing every square foot of the Sands Expo to bring you the latest and greatest. We’ll also probably bring you the marginally interesting and the somewhat uninspired because that’s just how we roll.
Please tell us in the comments below what you’ve heard about, what you know is coming, and what you want to see from whom!
Needless to say, our motley-looking SHOT crew will be ready to rock. GunsAmerica’s resident war chief Clay Martin will be at the helm. As he did in 2017, Clay will be doing the bulk of the on-camera work. Yes, he may have a face built for radio but he’s willing to do the job on the cheap. Don’t judge.
Also look for GunsAmerica’s managing editor Laura Kovarik to make an appearance along with Thomas Gomez, our new long-range contributor.
And, of course, no SHOT would be complete without a post or two from our fearless leader Paul Helinski. Though he has it in his mind he is going to lay low this year, something tells me he’ll have a hard time sitting back while we have all the fun.
There are multiple ways to catch our 12 Days of SHOT coverage. The easiest way is to just come directly to the website: Gunsamerica.com/blog (You know, the site you’re on right now reading this article). All our breaking news and SHOT coverage will go live here first.
But, if you want our 12 Days of SHOT coverage sent directly to your inbox, make sure you sign up for GunsAmerica News & Reviews. We will be sending our SHOT coverage out on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the week of SHOT and the three weeks following. For you math wizards, that’s SHOT coverage for three days over four consecutive weeks for a total of… 12 Days!
Our regular Monday and Friday Digests will be sent out as usual. No disruptions to our usual programming.
We’ll also be posting SHOT stories on social media throughout the weeks. You can follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and Instagram.
Lastly, if there’s anything you’d like us to cover or if you see any product that you have specific questions about, please comment in the comment section. We’ll do our best to satisfy all requests and inquiries.
Wish us luck! And, as always, thanks for being a part of GunsAmerica.

I’d like to request you guys take a look at whats new in FLIR technology and it’s price points for 2018. Seems like the market is watching this technology close as it starts to approach our budgets!
What is the status of the S333, the 4-barrel derringer-type handgun?
It was at last year’s shot show, but still is not for sale. The company keeps replying to my emails saying they don’t know when it will be ready to sell.
Also, when will the color versions of the Taurus Spectrum be for sale?
I would like any news on an HK VP9L or “long slide.” Any news of competition upgrades such as long slide or optic ready Ruger Americans. News on a possible Ruger Precision in .30-’06 with a 24-26″ barrel. The latest Winchester lever gun reproductions from Miroku for Winchester. A Walther PPQ Q5 in .45? CZ USA – BREN 806 Launch Dare???? New versions of the Scorpion?
KRISS – What’s up with the Sphinx Pistol line, especially the less than reliable Sub Compact Model. Are these made in Switzerland, the USA, are they made at all???? When can we expect a lighter weight version of the the KRISS Subguns/carbines and/or a version that takes Sphinx magazines?.
FLIR – New night vision and thermal sights.
Glock – Are we going to see a Glock 26X and/or 19X in an MOS version. Is 40 caliber now “dead” as far as new Gen5 products go?
H&K – Coverage of what the U.S. Marines are actually adopting as their service weapon. No MLOK??? No 14.5″ barrel. How much does it weight without optics, etc. Is the rifle black or actually FDE.
Steiner – Coverage of their lasers and weapon lights
Trijicon – What’s new?
Walther – Anything new for the CCW market? Improvements to the CCP???
ELITE IRON
Where can I purchase a Chiappa Rhino .357 Revolver 4″ barrel? and at what price?
Interested in whatever new handgun models are out there specifically for action shooting (practical, 3-gun, IPSC, USPSA, etc.)
Really hoping that Beretta would do something with the APX in this regard … and IWI would with the all-steel Jericho as well … but I’m not holding my breath.
Any 3D printers? Programs/downloads to print guns, etc?
Going to happen one day…and sooner than people think.
Most people never thought they would need a computer in their home. Look how THAT turned out.
Talk about Cabot Guns left handed 1911
It’s a 1911…the casings eject to the left instead of the right. Other than that? Same 1911.
Savage B22 F and FV left handed
S&W compact 2.0 in FDE?
Really stoked about the 870 DM. I read Clay’s review but have a couple additional
1. Will the 870 DM be offered on a Police Magnum receiver? My LE agency doesn’t allow the use of 870 Express models.
2. Will the 870 TAC-14 DM be offered on a Police Magnum receiver?
3. Will the 870 DM still be able to swap barrels easily like current 870s? I’m looking forward to turning one into an SBS with a 14″ barrel.
4. Will spare magazines be available for sale at the time of the DM’s release?
5. What is the approximate release date of the DM?
Tha k you, have a great trip
It would be nice if You gave some idea just where that show is !!!
Would love to see y’all selling the Guns America Shot Show shirts!! Try saying that five times fast. 😎👍🏻
I’m very interested in the new Sig P365 and would like to see/hear all about it, especially about the trigger pull… take up, break and reset. Also about its ergonomics, both in hand and while shooting. Thanks…. and have a great time at Shot Show… I’m jealous and wish I could attend.
Re: Shot show 2018….
I would like to know more about the Tactical Aces (?) Shockwave 12 Ga. Magazine fed semi-auto shotgun. If it is at the show, when will it be available to the public and at what price? Also, if possible, could you give it a PERSONAL critique. Thank you, in advance, for your response.
I’d love to hear about the Volquartsen Scorpion WMR. That’s the pistol, not the rifle.
Thanks
more info on Sig P-365
Thermal scopes and clip-ons.
Flir Thermosight Pro new model will be released and hoping Trijicon will have new models.
Interested in price point, objective lens sizes, sensor size (microns), usable max distance, and resolution (640 or greater).
Julie Mac! Only Julie Mac!
Target sights that aren’t black, with NO SNAG. Replacement sights for these weapons with proprietary cuts/angles with out having to need the services of a custom shop!!! My S&W PC 1911 is awesome, but the sights suck!!! Thanks
i have always been a big fan of the 40 S&W. i would like to hear about any new concealed carry hand guns in that caliber. they seem to be getting few & far between.
9mm…10mm…
get rid of .40s….
Anything & Everything on .224 Valkyrie
-Any new pistol braces that are coming out
-Any new pistol caliber carbines (yes I know, PCC’s are so 2016)
I’d like any new information from Colt about a new Python. They’ve been teasing us long enough. Build it and they will sell every single one before they even hit the shelves.
Arrange a tour of the “Colt Factory” and interview their “Engineers”. Seems this company is just a poor shell of its former self. I doubt they have the resources or expertise to build a new old revolver like the Python.
Tavor7 (308 bullpup)
Tavor Shotgun (12ga bullpup)
Lithgow ATRAX F90 (civilian version import date/status)
Desert Tech MDR (new calibers?)
Heckler & Koch G28E (civilian version status)
Tell Primary Arms to get off their duffs and bring back the R-grid reticle!
Check on the Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless. I just saw one in royal blue, .380 ACP. I have to find out if they will be making one in 9X19 MM!
Is Ruger or CZ going to be making a pistol caliber carbine in 10MM?
Anything new out there being offered in Left Hand configuration.
I want to see a full review of the new Ruger SR1911 Officers Model in 9mm.
Also interested in any new “vintage classic” offerings by Uberti, Pietta, Pendersoli, Henry and Chiappa that bring back the glory days of the Old West when the guns were made of wood and steel.
Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 compact .45 ACP!!!!!!!!
Let’s see lots of scantily clad babes fondling great new firearms. Seriously, let’s see lots of great new handguns, innovative ideas and products and honest reviews of products coming to the market, the stuff we usually see from GunsAmerica. Also lots of scantily clad babes fondling firearms. Thanks.
Looking for a 5 to 6 pound bolt gun with threaded muzzle in 308 and must be 16.5 inch barrel . Sub moa at 100 . I built one out of a christensen b.a. vtac but it’s just not what I want . Now let’s see if browning will bring one from their hells canyon line or like a Remington 7aac that was a 300bo .
Please do a full report on the new Ruger Precision Rimfire Rifle. Find out if any additional rimfire calibers will be added, like 17 HMR and 22 WMR.
Interested in what sig is doing with the legion series. Anything new in targets, moving or stationary. Something new in dry fire, or dry fire blowback. Ask Clay Martin for a personal signed copy of his new book! Thanks again!!
Appreciate all the excellent work that goes into the newsletter, great job as always, enjoy the show and I’m certainly looking forward to the reviews.
Would be interested to know which major rifle companies will offer a 35 Whelen.
Questions I am curious about:
1. Will there be a Gen 3 Ruger Precision Rifle announced or just upgrades to the Gen 2?
2. When will Hornady release the 190gr Sub-X bullet as a component? Also, any new 6.5CM projectiles to the market by any manufacturer?
3. A visit to the STI booth and their latest would be nice to see.
4. Anything dealing with long range shooting, 3-Gun or new suppressors!
Thanks for asking!
I would like to see a detailed interview with every AR 15 manufacturer at this event.
SIG P365 9mm, and any all-steel compact pistols in 9mm and 45ACP
Also anything new from Tisas in 45ACP…thanks!
Checkout Safety Harbor Firearms new Kompact Entry Stock for the CZ Scorpion EVO and HK MP5k
I am especially interested in Nikon Sport Optics new offerings for 2018!
I’m rapidly becoming a 1911 junkie and would like to know who makes the absolute finest 1911 that attends the show. The most reliable, most accurate and proven shooter.
Only a Reliability Engineer might really understand reliability data, and, how to correctly gather it, analyze it and use those results.
“RELIABILITY”?
Among others:
“conformance to formal, documented specifications, over time”.
The statistics and the related methods of data analysis are beyond the scope of text messages, e-mails and Public Forums.
As far as “accuracy”?
My colleagues and I (here at MIT) doubt a concise definition exists, much less it be understood by the masses.
And. YES, I HAVE been buying, using and enjoying firearms since the mid-1950’s.
Multiple 1,000’s of hours on ranges, all over the world.
Enjoy!!!!!!!!
Information regarding features, performance & availability of the Saint AR-15 Pistol – 5.56mm.

Would like to see if Hornady (or any other companies) is expanding their offerings of loaded ammo for “obsolete” cartridges.
Cross Machine Tool releasing the AR-MINI
As late as it is!
I would like to see you stop by the Roberts Defense booth. They make bench made custom 1911s for a great price. They are located in Oshkosh, Wi.
Cover new entry optics, especially Red Dots. As Pistol Caliber carbines (PCC) require more coverage, especially the new entires at more economical prices, include combo of PCC and Red Dot optics. Within red dot reviews has anyone corrected the ‘starring’ or ‘blossom’ effect many people observe. (Some red dots are nearly made useless with the effect, when the dot isn’t a dot any longer)
Please pickup on any efforts made by both gun manufacturers and organizations which are playing to in a beneficial way or are helping young shooters get into the fun and excitement of firearms. For example the reorganization of Rimfire Steel Challenge group(s). We, older folks, need to promote anything good which promotes youth being encouraged and promoting more interest by young people into safety-related firearms use, via competition for example. This should, MUST, include those parents on the fence about firearms.
Excellent comment on the younger generation. We as instructors have offered to youth groups in churches, etc., instructions as safety, dry fire with a Sirt gun, even .22 live fire on our range. No charge. No takers as of yet. We live in a strong LDS area. We proposed to the school district about training teachers, they shot the thought down in about 5 seconds. The look on their faces was absolutely priceless! The training that we have done with some youth with their parents is gratifying. As you said we need more youth involvement! Thanks!
Ithaca Gun Company is making excellent guns again, all metal, made in America, great people. Please do an article on them and how they are doing, their new products, production process, etc. Just purchased a Model 37 Featherweight 20 gauge from them that has better craftsmanship in it than the first Ithaca I bought 50 years ago. Thank you!
Can you review the hk

Thanks
SCAR-SC at the FN Booth #13662
Please review the Big Horn Armory AR500 in 500 Auto Max. We hear that it is the most powerful AR platform in the world and uses a .500″ bullet to boot. I think it is displayed at Ascend Armory booth 1852.
Run a contest or promotion each year so that some of your readers can get tickets
Anything .224 Valkyrie.
Please do an article on pistol caliber carbines and what s new at SHOT 18…
Many smaller shops are producing these at great price points under $700 for both 9mm and 45 ACP.
Anything new with the 17WSM
Would like to see information about 224 Valkyrie bolt action rifles.
Swing by booth #1063 and get some hands on their XM556 handheld Microgun. It’s a handheld electric minigun with a blistering rate of fire.
I’d like to see a thorough review of Ruger’s newly released handguns in .327 Federal Magnum: The SP101 in 3″, the lcrx with exposed hammer, and the 7 round GP100.
I feel that the .327 round is a “goldilocks” round in that it packs a lot of punch without the recoil of .357.
Why isn’t Smith and Wesson doing any limited runs of their 632? There seems to be a cult following of these firearms, and if you shot one or two of them, you’d know why, especially considering the ballistics of .327.
