New from Glock: The G19X! A 'Crossover' Pistol with MHS Roots

Glock is kicking off the New Year with a bang! Meet the all-new G19X, a new pistol that’s a hybrid of their Model 19 and 17 handguns. The pistol is based on their military trials submission MHS pistol.

A polymer-framed, striker-fired pistol chambered for 9mm Luger, the G19X combines the compact slide of the G19 with the full-size frame of the Glock 17. It comes with one flush 17-round magazine and two extended magazines with +2 baseplates. The 19X was designed as an all-purpose sidearm for soldiers and will do just as well for civilians.

“The G19X was developed for the military and is a practical everyday pistol that will do what you need it to do, when you need it to; every time, in every condition,” said Josh Dorsey, Glock vice president. “Through rigorous testing, the G19X stands out above the competition and has the ability to function in all situations with ultimate reliability and accuracy.

“Our goal was to meet the demanding needs of the military while maintaining our standard of perfection,” he said. “With proven results, the G19X delivers maximum efficiency and trustworthiness.”

Glock is calling the G19X its first ever “Crossover” pistol. Another first for Glock is that the G19X comes with a factory coyote frame and finish — not a dealer-exclusive paint job.

Glock tweaked the military design to make it a little more appealing to the consumer market. Unlike the MHS model the commercial version does not have a manual thumb safety. These aren’t very popular with striker-fired handguns, a trend Glock started in the first place.

A lot of features and extras separates the 19X from the rest of Glock’s product line. The 19X is accurized with a match-grade barrel and ruggedized with a hard diamond-like carbon finish on the slide and barrel.

Glock calls it their Marksman barrel with polygonal rifling and a target crown. Polygonal rifling provides a better gas seal around bullets as they pass through the barrel and they deform projectiles less. This helps improve muzzle velocities and accuracy in general.

Both the frame and slide are coyote tan while the internal parts and controls are standard black. The controls are ambidextrous with dual slide release levers and a reversible magazine release button.

Apart from the improved finish and internals the Glock 19X also features an updated frame. The frame doesn’t have fingergrooves which can be awkward for some shooters and it uses an interchangeable backstrap system to accommodate a wide variety of hand sizes.

The 19X features an enlarged and flared magazine well and the frame also sports an integral lanyard loop. All this boxed up in a matching coyote carrying case at with a suggested price of $749.

Glock promises to have the G19X on dealer shelves by Jan. 22, 2018.  Vist the Glock website to learn more.

Just received an email ad for this firearm from Academy Sports. They’re selling for 629.99 but they describe it a a double action?? What? Please tell me that it’s a misprint.

    • Danr January 22, 2018, 8:27 pm

I was having a brain fart, I think…striker-fired can’t be DA with no hammer.

  • mauser6863 January 6, 2018, 11:05 am

Glock 26X please for us “Secret Squirrel” operators and wannabes. Serious, the Glock 26 with exactly the same features would be an outstanding carry gun and better IMHO than the new Gen5 G26.

Also lose the extra long base plates on the Gen5 guns. Magazine compatibility is important to agencies/individuals and having a “Poison” baseplate that won’t work in all guns is not good. Being a leader means having to say, “No” to good ideas. These new base plates should have gotten that “No”. Fix it please.

    • Canisferus January 10, 2018, 3:04 am

      Yeah, a Glock 26 with a G19 frame and a safety!
Heck, Glock should off all the combos: G17 slide w/ 26 frame and G26 slide w/ 17 frame etc.

  • Blasted Cap January 6, 2018, 4:55 am

I’m waiting for them to do something really different. Go crazy guys, put a 17L slide on a 26 frame.

  • Steve January 5, 2018, 11:27 pm

Every body stop Bitchin about the slide and the frame. They built it that way to meet the militay requirements, Just like the fn509 are a compact slide full size grip. If you want a longer slide get a 17 and sand that bitch down I think that 19x is bad ass I’ll be swooping Me up one I got big hands all the reviews sound good only con is the price..I love my glocks M&ps sigp320 fn509 berretta apx czp10c so take that dick haha

  • Godfrey Daniel January 5, 2018, 2:42 pm

    Another feeble w.t.h. from Glock.

  • joefoam January 5, 2018, 9:06 am

I might consider purchasing one with the safety as a collectors item. No other reason to have more Glocks than I have now.

  • gopher January 3, 2018, 11:00 pm

“Glock is calling the G19X its first ever “Crossover” pistol. ” Hmm, what am I missing that the G30S (G36 slide on G30 frame) doesn’t count? BTW, Interesting tidbit: I build one from parts several years before the G30S was offered “factory”, Glock wouldn’t just sell me the G36 slide direct, I had to mail them the G30 frame so they could send it back with the new slide.

  • Ringo Lapua January 3, 2018, 3:24 pm

Would rather rely on my S&W 327 and my Ruger GP500. 357 Magnum is soooo much more convincing and dependable than a Glock 19-17 or 17-19 hybrid.

  • David January 3, 2018, 11:37 am

FN did the same thing with the FN 509 which was there MHS submission, I have held that in my hand and personally for me having some good sized mitts I prefer a larger framed gun to a smaller framed one, so I would probably like this once its in hand. Love the finish, don’t understand why Glock doesn’t do more of these out of the factory in different colors vs having them done aftermarket. Where they have gone totally wrong in my book is on the price, it is way to high. I would say that is where they have made there mistake all along. But we have allowed them to keep robbing us on price.

    • Peacekeeper January 21, 2018, 10:20 pm

Why’s everyone crying about price?? It’s not like paying $1200 for a POS Sig. Too bad you don’t get LE/MIL discount. I’ve never paid over $450 for any of my 5 Glocks except my G34 which with discount, I paid less than $550.

  • Sage Brush January 3, 2018, 10:13 am

Wow, a lot of Glock critics and haters out there. It is what it is. Buy it or don’t buy it. I’ll pick one up to carry in a chest rig for when I’m out in the field. I’ve got a couple of G19’s and a G17 with the grip chopped to G19 length for concealed carry. Jim Jones makes a very good point for a grip chop to make a Gen5 G19 w/o that pointless front cut out. As to the comments about Glock being garbage… seems to me that there’s an awful lot of evidence to the contrary and a whole lot of informed professionals that can afford to choose any pistol they want to bet their lives on that choose a Glock. ‘Nuff Said.

    • Keith January 4, 2018, 9:16 am

I couldn’t agree more. Glock can stand on its own I’ve shit thousands of rounds from my G19 Gen 4, never misfired, never jams, always accurate, easy to shoot, and is as dependable a gun as I’ve ever owned or shot.

    • Ricky Price January 5, 2018, 10:38 am

It would take a lot of TRUCKS to haul the Glocks sold in the US.

  • Dan January 3, 2018, 5:56 am

IMHO, I would prefer just the opposite, the longer slide with a shorter grip. The longer barrel is easier to conceal than the long grip, and if I want more capacity, I can simply use a longer mag.

    • Travis January 4, 2018, 9:11 pm

I would have to agree with you. The longer grip wants to print a lot more than the shorter grip.

  • Troy January 3, 2018, 12:51 am

    I’d rather see a 17 slide with a 19 lower. If I wanted to conceal a 17 sized grip, I’d carry my 17.

  • Frank January 3, 2018, 12:36 am

While I sell Glocks for a living, don’t own one and never will. As for pistols, I’ll stick with HK, Sig and Kimber (for my 1911 fix).

    • Dan January 3, 2018, 11:38 am

Care to say why? I disliked Glocks too until we went to them on the job. Other than the grip I can’t criticize the thing. Many years and I just can’t kill the thing.
Off the job I did transition to the 320 though.

    • Travis January 4, 2018, 9:15 pm

I like Glocks well enough. I do not carry one often though. My primary is HK.

  • Joe January 3, 2018, 12:22 am

I would be in if it was to the military specs… I would like the manual safety. But what does glock know…. only reason I like glocks….. 33rd mags….. beyond that.. I have better pistols

  • Lou Bethel January 2, 2018, 8:24 pm

    Marksman barrel?
What does that say about the other Glock barrels?
And why does the Marksman barrel choke when I shoot Hornady ammo?
    Ho hum again from Glock.

    • Michael Brown January 2, 2018, 11:03 pm

I have a few of the “other” barrels and have taken several trophies with them. This may be an actual improvement or like many other companies do it might be a marketing gimmick. Sort of like the M barrel in the Springfield Armory line of pistols.

  • Vincent Brady January 2, 2018, 7:54 pm

I’m sure the military spent millions of dollars to study and determine that the thumb safety on pistols are a good idea when dealing with the general cross section of recruits. Why Glock thinks the general public is different mystifies me. Having a thumb safety feature is good PR and you don’t have to use it if you don’t want too. I’m not sure what “Glock market” this pistol addresses because I can think of other similar pistols that do the job better and cheaper.

    • Michael Brown January 2, 2018, 10:39 pm

Yet you fail to mention them….must be afraid of the broader discussion.

    • Dan January 3, 2018, 5:58 am

      Amen!

  • FirstStateMark January 2, 2018, 7:26 pm

    Looks nice.

  • Mitch D January 2, 2018, 7:01 pm

The cool thing with the sub comp. Glock they will take the mid and full size mags

  • Dilligaf January 2, 2018, 6:31 pm

    Glock is garbage

    • Michael Brown January 2, 2018, 11:05 pm

Sure that’s why 70% of military and police forces around the world use them. You’re know what is garbage? Fanboys like you who can’t admit that there are many fine weapons for MANY manufacturers…..consider it a blessing and stop being stupid.

      • Dilligaf January 3, 2018, 7:00 pm

Hahaha being stupid?? That’s great that “70% of military and police forces around the world use them”. That’s great and good for them. I don’t like that garbage handgun and never will. If you don’t like my opinion then oh well, either be ignorant and die with a problem or get over it. It sounds like you will be ignorant and die with a problem soooooo have at it! Oh, again, GLOCKS ARE GARBAGE!!!

        • pat strayhorn January 9, 2018, 10:13 am

I have no idea what you do for a living, but you are apparently not a professional that has to carry a firearm as an everyday tool. I am a retired police officer who carried the same glock m22 for 12 years, still carry it today… every day, and yes have had to defend my life with it. never a ftf, fte, or misfire. I do think glocks are rather homely as compared to a 1911 or beretta 92, but they work…so it is ok.

  • Dennis Pearson January 2, 2018, 6:27 pm

Yep, they got it backwards alright.

  • El Mac January 2, 2018, 6:13 pm

…And still no option for a thumbsafety. Glock is eat up with the idiocy. Thanks for nothing.

  • DrThunder88 January 2, 2018, 5:58 pm

I would like to put forth the suggestion that “reversible” and “ambidextrous” do not mean the same thing. I submit that, when describing firearms, “ambidextrous” should mean “equally well suited to both hands” whereas “reversible” should mean “can be configured to be suitable for one hand or the other”. The XD mag release, for example, is ambidextrous. Glock mag releases are only reversible.

  • Jeff January 2, 2018, 5:36 pm

“Glock tweaked the military design to make it a little more appealing to the consumer market.”… And that apparently included keeping the stupid protruding lanyard attachment point on the base of the grip??? What consumer want’s that? Poor decision IMO. Then again, a 19 slide with a 17 frame is also a poor decision. If they were going to do a hybrid then it should have been reversed with a 17 frame and a 19 slide instead. At least they got rid of the stupidest idea of all, the Army mandated manual safety… Frickin Army!

    • joe January 3, 2018, 12:37 am

read your post again and tell me why your not stupid in 10 words or less.

      • Jeff January 3, 2018, 1:17 pm

        Joe,

        * you’re

Also, your entire sentence structure is embarrassing. BOOM!

        • Jeff January 3, 2018, 1:20 pm

And yea, I meant to say a 17 slide and a 19 frame.

    • Mike January 3, 2018, 4:39 am

This is kind of making my head hurt. Didn’t you just restate the same thing, or did I miss the irony?

  • Mario January 2, 2018, 5:16 pm

I can’t wait to pick one up!!! It looks awesome!!

  • Rob January 2, 2018, 5:13 pm

Built for the F’n clueless. Like the finish though.

  • Patrick FMessmer January 2, 2018, 5:05 pm

To each his own but I would rather have a 17 slide with a 19 frame. The grip is what makes a pistol harder to conceal more than the slide. Depending on carry method of course.

    • Joe Saxon January 2, 2018, 5:28 pm

      Totally agree

    • Scotty Gunn January 2, 2018, 9:17 pm

I was thinking the same thing. For IWB carry (4 o’clock position) the butt tends to print. Also, being a fella with just a few extra pounds, a short slide actually make the gun tend to pop out or roll out of the waistband easier than a longer slide. Plus, longer sight radius, a tad higher velocity, win/win. The loss of several round is worth the trade off for the shorter butt.

    • Schildgen January 3, 2018, 7:37 am

Totally agree, I’m actually thinking about finding a used 17 and cutting down the grip to accept 19 mags.

  • Kephra January 2, 2018, 4:57 pm

A 17 slide assembly with 19 grip would have been better. I’d be interested to chat with someone who does like it to understand the logic.

  • Russ H. January 2, 2018, 4:52 pm

I was wondering when we\’d see Glock\’s MHS entry in the civilian market. 17 or 19 rds – not bad. Glad to see Glock doing a factory coyote finish instead of an aftermarket one.

  • Mrninjatoes January 2, 2018, 4:35 pm

That trigger. I might have to pick one up. Clay’s Gen 5 review was really good.

  • Jim Jones January 2, 2018, 3:32 pm

Done see much point in this, but it does give people the option to cut the grip down to 19 length without the stupid front cut the G5 comes with.
