One gun you may not have heard about during SHOT Show 2016 is Serbu Firearms’ newest, the RN-50. Keeping with tradition Serbu’s new offering is chambered for .50 BMG and is just as unique as their other contributions to the firearms market.

The RN-50 was actually designed as a collaborative effort between Mark Serbu and YouTube sensation Royal Nonesuch — putting the RN in RN-50. The new .50-caliber rifle was built to hit the $1000 price point — something that no company has ever done before for a production rifle.
The gun employs a straightforward break-action design, with a screw-on breech block. Having to unscrew the breech block for each shot makes the rifle a bit slow to reload, but the simple loading and firing system is what makes the gun so inexpensive. At this price, a lot of people will accept the trade-off that the shooter has to manually load each round before firing, and manually extract and unload the gun after firing.
The video shows that unloading is still pretty easy to do by using the case rim of another cartridge as a tool for extraction, and that with a little practice, shouldn’t be too hard to get used to. And if the cases start to get too hot, there’s another inexpensive tool that can help: a glove.

Due to the simple design it’s functionally a takedown rifle, and can broken in half at the hinge to make it easier to transport. The gun will ship without a buttstock, instead, it has buffer tube mount installed that accepts standard AR stocks. Other optional upgrades include a set trigger and a bipod in addition to the stock.
For a short time the gun will be offered at the introductory price of $875. You will have to act fast as the MSRP is going up to $1,199 on February 19. Even at the higher price point, this is an interesting new product from the folks at Serbu Firearms and it is definitely the least expensive way to get into shooting .50 BMG.

People who have to scrimp and save to come up with $875… plus tax, shipping and other fees, haven’t considered the cost of .50bmg ammo. Stick to what you can afford. Just sayin’…
yo, .50 is friggin cheap to reload, and cheap to shoot in general. you can buy loaded ammo for around 3 a round, and can load it for around 2.
.300 rum, .338 rum, .338 lapua, .375 h&h are all much more expensive to buy ammo for because there isnt any milsurp, and loading still costs right around 1.50.
the rifle itself is the most expensive part and at 1100, which is about the same as the other calibers i provided, give or take 200 dollars.

I am a certified Machinist Craftsman and know all of the rudiments of machining metals and the metallurgical values of same.
There is ‘Absolutely No Way’ this simple design criteria should ever cost what these greedy people are selling it for.
I have built guns using Douglas or Star Barrels and Bishop stocks etc. in the past and even then, it was not near as expensive as outlined here.
It is no more than the dog-leg action of a Single Barrel Shotgun, With a ‘PIPE CAP’ for a Cap to lock the cartridge in.

Serbu is a great company with great values. When a law enforcement.agency in NY wanted to test his .50 and possibly buy, Mark Serbu said no, he would not sell them a rifle that citizens couldnt buy. This rifle is an amazing opportunity for someone to enjoy 50BMG shooting for those on a budget. If this is comparable to the BFG-50 it will be an MOA rifle. If you have cash or don’t like the loading of this rifle, spend a little more and get the bolt rifle, or just be a high roller and buy the Serbu semi-auto 50! Spelling Nazi Alert: the word is BREECH not breach. A BREECH is the part of a firearm behind the bore whereas a breach can be many other things but part of a firearm isn’t one of them.
To the gun? WTF? Ugly, slow and expensive for what it is. There are more than enough sub $2K .50 cal uppers that work better than this. Solution in search of a problem unless you have just HAVE to own a .50 cal of some description.

Wow, all the negativity. I would seriously consider one at 875. Cheapest 50’s I’ve seen are around 7500. Would be a blast at the local range! Though I suspect they might frown on taking it into an indoor range. The slow reloading part might be a blessing at the price of the rounds and would reduce the change of overheating. I don’t see them dropping in price much assuming they are at least semi-accurate and hold up to the blast of the 50.

I have to wonder how long those welds for the scope rail/bridge/cheesylookingbox are going to hold up. The .50 BMG round would create a LOT of shock through the whole weapon in this setup.
The scope will go first, on that tub, with a tube cap.
Yes, the threaded cap does slow things down but it also makes for less moving parts and weight. Hopefully, the fit of the upper and lower receivers is good and snug.
I would be interested in knowing the accuracy of this weapon at various distances.

No matter how you look at it, it is a very expensive toy. By the time you put the stock,bipod and scope you are going to have some big bucks invested. Then add the price of ammo! Then have president billary take it away……..

Seems like a come on price,if they can sell for $875 till feb 19th , they should sell at that price for at least a year ?. They try to bait us buyers then there out of stock to raise the price!!! All the gun sellers do it. Allways have and do. About 35 years ago Ruger came out with the red hawk stainless 44 mag pistol. I ordered one at a gun dealer and I’m still waiting never heard a word on it . The reason they never called was the price I ordered at jumped to almost double . Because supply and demand came in . Ever since that time I don’t even try to by new introduced guns . Same thing happened when I tried to order a 30 pm pistol 5 years ago it’s still hard to find one now. As an entry level single shot .50 caliber it’s not bad… only because of the introductory price. However, as the price creeps up, I would save my extra pennies and invest in a single shot bolt action instead. Now, at the top end price if it included the scope and butt stock, it may just be an excellent cost effective purchase. This kind of reminds me something I built out of PVC many years ago to fire soda cans out of. Single shot, screw end cap and fire away.
