Fox, sn26609, 1920, 12ga., 6lbs. 13oz., Chokes M/F
As Michael McIntosh points out in his book A.H. FOX “THE FINEST GUN IN THE WORLD”; the Fox guns are supremely balanced, extremely reliable, and simply built guns with classic good looks. There are always a few 12ga. A Grade Fox guns available to own, so how do you choose? Most have had their stocks cut, been poorly restored, heavily used, have buggered up screws, bad shooting dimensions, or have characteristics that just don’t fit your needs. What makes a “good one”? For those that enjoy upland hunting the preference is something light, quick to the shoulder, and easy to carry all day over hill and dale. HERE WE HAVE A VERY SPECIAL FOX, SN26609 MADE IN 1920, A PHILLY GUN, WEIGHING IN AT 6LBS. 13OZ. WITH 30” BARRELS CHOKED M/F, BALANCED PERFECTLY 3/16” AHEAD OF THE HINGE PIN, MAKING THIS AN ULTRALIGHT FOX …A TRUE RARITY AND A GUN YOU WILL LIKELY NEVER SEE AGAIN! Many 16 and 20-gauge guns from other makers weigh as much as this 12ga. and this Fox has 30” no. 4 weight barrels choked M/F, the perfect choice for pheasants and other upland game. PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND 2 ½” 12GA. SHELLS. BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER AND HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” HEAVY FIELD LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN. This is a $360 service in our shop. Best of all it has excellent screws, excellent wood to metal fit, 40% factory case color, 97% factory blue barrels with mirror bores (there is light freckling on the barrels…if you want them rust blued to perfection, add $475), 20% factory charcoal blue on the trigger guard, and nicely figured wood with an excellent finish. You could look for years and not find another Fox 12ga. gun that weighs 6lbs. 13oz. with 30” barrels. The gun is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, WITH 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, having been stripped to the smallest part, Ultrasonic cleaned, each part scrubbed and inspected for function and integrity, lubricated, and assembled, good for another decade or so before needing attention, a $275 service. The gun has perfect mechanics, with barrels tight on face, top lever right of center, and excellent checkering with good shooting dimensions (see specs below). This is a gorgeous gun that has that “FOX FEEL” and is an affordable A.H. Fox double gun. It might be a “month of Sundays” before you see another A Grade Fox this light and completely serviced and ready to go afield for another 100 years. Fox guns have been continuously gaining value as you enjoy their use, and that makes this a very good investment gun. Thanks for looking!
