The A.H. Fox XE Grade is truly one of the most handsome American doubles ever produced, with its deeply carved oak leaf engraving, long elegant forends with the buffalo horn inlay cut to a slight schnabel, rebated frames to keep the head of the stock from spreading, frame filed to the shape of the barrels all the way to the top rib, locking screws on the top action screw, delightful checkering patterns on well figured stocks... a stunning shotgun! The XE came standard with ejectors, a Silvers pad, and special attention to the chambers, bores, and chokes to create a refined shooting machine. Gun number 30042 made in 1925, is no exception. We all know the barrels are the heart of the gun, and Fox was known to have the best barrel men in the business, especially when it came to their high end guns. We have a copy of the factory build card, detailing the original configuration including the extra set of barrels. The chamber, bore diameter, length, and chokes are all original from the factory. The gun was restocked for a tall man, beautifully done, with a LOP of 15 1/2" from a rear trigger position. THAT IS A LONG STOCK. We can shorten it easily, and bend it to your chosen measurements if needed, but IF YOU ARE A TALL GUY THAT LOVES FINE VINTAGE AMERICAN GUNS, THIS GUN IS FOR YOU. No extra expense and over a year wait to have a new stock made! The Fox/Kautzky single selective trigger is not noted on the front of the card, but it is no doubt a factory installed trigger. We do not have a copy of the back of the card, which often has additional information, especially when the front of the card is covered with writing as this one is. Perhaps a letter from John Callahan, the Fox historian, would add information that the trigger was added during the build process. The price on this gun is a bargain with its 32" barrels and second barrels set and the XE will always be a highly sought after piece of Americana that shoots better than guns built in today's modern world. A great investment opportunity for a gorgeous gun!
