From a local retiree’s collection comes this good looking specimen of the Walther PPK/S series pistols. From this one’s S016000 range serial number, it was manufactured early in the second year of production for the stainless, 1984. Manufacturer was Ranger Mfg. Inc. of Gadsden, Alabama, under license of Carl Walther gmbh, of Ulm, West Germany. Exclusive distributor was International Armament Corporation, fondly known as Interarms, #10 Prince St., Alexandria, VA. Construction is entirely stainless, with the exception of some steel internal parts and the glossy finished black polymer, factory Walther banner grip panels. Magazine is original issue Walther, steel with satin nickel plating to match the stainless finish. Features of the PPK and PPK-S, writes another exclusive distributor, include a firing pin safety, manual safety with decocking function, double action and single action trigger and extended beaver tail grip frame strut. Type is traditional double- and single-action semi-auto, long smooth double action pull on the first shot from a resting hammer position, and then, on our photo specimen, a crisp 4 1/2 pound single action trigger pull with negligible felt creep on subsequent shots until the shooter chooses to end the firing session by engaging the main safety which decocks the pistol. Caliber is .380 ACP, and capacity is 7+1 rounds. Barrel is 3.35 inch stainless. Sights are frame integral and contrast red bar dovetailed fixed rear. Trigger is .311 serrated face stainless, with matching PPK Commander style hammer.
