This Taurus 945 borrows from Beretta for its Magazine releases, disassembly system and frame mounted ambidextrous safety levers. It further borrows from Sig and FN for its hammer and slide configuration. We assign influence for its finish, as much as anybody, to Elvis Presley. Manufacturer is Forjas Taurus S.A. of Porto Alegre, Brazil. Importer is Taurus International of Miami. Construction is stainless steel barrel, slide, and guide rod, with steel internal parts and gold plated furniture, including the extractor, all mounted into a lightweight polished alloy frame with integral two slot Picatinny rail for light or optic. Barrel is 4 inch Service Size Stainless, 6 groove 1:16 right hand twist. Slide is brushed stainless laterals with rear serrationgs and matte finished upper, with stake on black anodized sight and matching dovetailed combat type drift adjustable for windage rear, that completes a 3 dot configuration. Slide operates on a full length guide rod for stability and accuracy. Trigger is .355 smooth faced combat type, with .305 short serrated spur Beretta type hammer. Safety levers are ambidextrous frame mounted. Since this is a traditional double and single action semi-automatic pistol, it can be carried in cocked and locked mode for single action firing on the first shot. Hammer is three position: full rest, half cock, and full cock, and the safety will engage on all three positions, as well as serving as a decocker when the operator wants to end the firing session. Magazine release is reversible, set on right hand shooter from the factory. Grip frame is serrated fore and aft, and Taurus’s internal lock is positioned on the back strap. This pistol comes with two keys for its internal lock. Grips are contoured Imitation Pearl, polymer, with gold plated slot head grip screws. Magazine is factory 8 shot, capacity 8 + 1 rounds of .45 ACP caliber ammunition. Slide thickness is .950 on the sides; overall length is 7 5/8 inches from the muzzle to the grip frame strut; height it 5 1/2 inches from the top of the rear sight to the magazine floorplate. Weight empty is 31 ounces, with center of gravity at the magazine release. The Taurus 945SSPRL, of which this is a very attractive specimen, was produced from 2000 until 2010. From this specimen’s NYD78000 range number, it was manufactured in 2005. It was never out of Taurus Corporate Custody until we got it, in 2012. It is what we call a demo, one of Taurus’s showgirls like they exhibit at the annual SHOT Show in Las Vegas, and distribute to their sales reps. Surface detractions are minimal, only a few faint short streaks on top of its slide. We rate it as Excellent, 95 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
