Here is a great little takeoff on the Beretta model 21, the Taurus PT-25 Pistol chambered to hold 9 rounds of .25 ACP ammunition. It is full time double action, yet it has a positive lock side safety. For added security, this Taurus is equipped with a Magazine Safety, meaning that it cannot be fired even with a live round in the barrel and the main safety off, not until the magazine is re-inserted. An added safety feature is the Beretta type tip-up barrel that allows easy loading and unloading without racking the slide, something many of our fellow boomers are no longer able to do with the onset of Arthur – itis, that is. Add the light weight, 13.5 ounces empty, and a person has one of the best small autos you can buy. Even though Taurus markets the PT-22 sister series to the PT-25, and those are chambered in the more powerful, less expensive .22 LR Caliber, these 25 autos are necessarily more certain to fire and feed properly. We have nothing negative to say about the PT-22, but we believe the .25 is a better choice in a small pistol like this one. And this nickel frame, Brazilian walnut gripped PT-25, old Taurus Order number 1-250036, is one of the most attractive of the entire series. This specimen was manufactured some time in the mid to late 1990s, since it lacks Taurus's patented internal lock that was introduced in the late 1990s. This PT-25 has its original instruction manual and never-completed warranty card. It is in its original box. The only surface detractions that we see is faint whitening on the front sight edges and mild buffing on the edges of its trigger guard. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. We rate this pre-lock PT-25, one of very few of its particular variant in circulation, as Excellent, Near Mint, since we estimate that more than 95 percent of its original finish is intact.
