So few Bernardelli pistols came into the United States, there’s just not much written about them. We’ll write what we know about this one, including its measurements. Manufacturer, is Vincenzo Bernardelli, Gardone, VT, Italy; and that company folded its equipment and moved to Turkey beginning around 2002. This specimen of the P 18 has an Italian B D date code, manufactured 1994. The P One and P018 were briefly imported into the US in severely limited quantities from 1993 until 1997. Construction is entirely steel, with factory walnut grips. Type is traditional double action semi automatic. Safety is frame mounted for right hand shooters, and it will engage with the hammer at rest, or cocked and locked position for single action shooting. Safety lever does NOT decock the pistol. The only safe way to decock is to remove the magazine, eject the chamber round, and let the hammer down with the trigger. Barrel is 4 inch six groove 1:9.84 right hand conventional rifling, good to go on anything from lead bullet reloads to premium hollowpoints. Guide rod is full length blue steel. Slide and frame are hard chrome plated, with white steel barrel and matte blued furniture. Front sight is slide integral; rear sight is dovetailed matte blue, red and white dot rear. Trigger is .300 Smooth Faced Steel, with serrated spur .335 Hammer. Weight empty is 32 ounces, with center of gravity at the release lever tab. Overall length is 7 1/2 inches from the muzzle to the grip frame strut, with a slide thickness of .980 inch on the flats. Height is 5 inches, or 5 7/8 from the top of the rear sight to the CZ75 magazine floorplate. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent 10 pound vicinity, with a 4 pound single action that has moderate felt creep. Magazine is a never issued FEG R9 ten rounder. The last time we tried Triple K’s 1518M Magazine, it would not fit. This pistol served and protected our Israeli friends from its issue date until fairly recently with the Mishteret Y’Israel, the Israeli Civilian Police in the Jerusalem District. Surface detractions are only moderate, principally scouring to its cut checkered Walnut Italian Grip panels and surface toning on the never blued barrel surface. Chrome finish is strong throughout. We rate this P18 as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this pistol was fired fewer than 1,000 times during its career. We’re offering the P18 in the photo for only $ 339.00.
