Frequently shoppers in our store will ask which is the best pistol? We don’t like to answer that question, but if we’re forced to, we usually say Sig. Here is a specimen of the classic Sig 220 .45 Auto with still-viable Trijicon / Siglite Night Sights. We rate the luminosity of the sights at 40 percent or better of their original strength. Serial number is 2906xx, and we estimate this pistol was manufactured in 1998 or 1999. The pistol in the photo is the pistol that the buyer will receive. This pistol’s only surface detractions are moderate whitening on the sharp edges and raised sides of the slide, and minimal white streaking on its trigger guard. We rate the finish as a strong Very Good since we estimate that 80 to 85 percent of its original finish is intact. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. This pistol is excellent mechanically. We estimate it has been fired fewer than 2000 rounds, usually 100 rounds or less per year for qualification for a period of less than 15 years. Bore, chamber, and internal parts are clean, bright and excellent. We are including an HK carrying case, an original extra magazine, and a California Compliant cable lock. These were traded to Smith & Wesson by a New England agency, and each comes with a total of three magazines. The magazines are all factory Sig 8-shot. Weight empty with magazine inserted is just over 30 oz. Action is traditional double action: from a rest position, a long double action pull on the first shot and then crisp single action pulls until the shooter fires dry or decocks the pistol. The P-220 does not have a manually operated safety, but it does have an internal firing pin block safety. Replacement price, when a person can even find a P-220, is upwards of $900 in our area.
