Seller Description
REDUCED This Ithaca 1911-A1 was built in early 1944 as WWII raged. It is stamped with the FJA of Colonel Frank J. Atwood who inspected all Ithaca pistols. It has the usual stampings showing clearly on both the slide and fram. Such as M 1911 A1 US ARMY on both slide and frame on the right. UNITED STATES PROPERTY on the right frame above the S/N and the faint bit of the Ordanance crossed cannons at the rear of the right frame. There is a 10 stenciled on to the left grip panel, rack number?
The Ithaca address is stamped on the left side of the slide. FJA is stamped below the takedown lever, This pistol was overhauled at Rock Island Arsenal, using a new old part slide that dated from WWII, between 1958 and 1960. This is shown by the RIA stamped below the S/N. The blued and numbered magazine is Korean era issue. This old warhorse served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. I bought it from a walk-up at a gunshow who stated that he was serving at the Saigon Embassy in 1975 when everything went to hell and as he boarded the ship to head to the Phillipines he had this pistol shoved into his belt behind his coat, However, he never got around to mentioning how he was "serving" in Saigon in 1975. Military, civilian or spook?
