Seller Description
This extremely rare gun was recently cleaned, photographed and all parts identified 100% original by NRA Museum senior curator Philip Schreier. The gun still retains 80% to 90% of original bluing. Beginning in 1915, a number of Model 1911 pistols were made available to N.R.A. members and affiliates. All of these Colt pistols that were released through this program have been from 1915, 1916 and 1917 production. They are easily identified by the N.R.A. marking which appears on the right side of the receiver below the serial number. These examples fall within the range of serial numbers from 122279 to 164124. It is estimated that only approximately 50 of the Colt Model 1911 pistols were so marked and released. This gun’s serial number falls within the range of numbers from 136901 – 137400 that were shipped in the December 16th, 1916 shipment to the San Antonio arsenal. I have blurred the last three numbers as advised by Mr. Schreier. The gun has been in my family for generations, owned by my father who was last stationed as the Commander of the Heavy Bombardment Wing at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas adding provenance and credibility.
