The Browning 1911-22 is a scaled .22 LR plinking pistol built at approximately 85% of the original 1911 size. It is a single-action, straight blowback design with a corrosion-resistant steel barrel and a precision-machined aluminum alloy slide.
The model family uses a detachable 10-round steel magazine and incorporates traditional 1911 controls including a beavertail grip safety and an extended ambidextrous thumb safety. Frame options include aircraft-grade aluminum alloy or a polymer frame with a 7075 aluminum subframe, and some composite models offer a Picatinny-style rail on the dust cover. Sight configurations vary by model and include A1-style fixed sights, combat-style sights, or steel fiber-optic sights.
