Seller Description
About This Historic Firearm: Serial number 32,2XX. This beautiful example of antique "new" technology. This is one of the famous Smith and Wesson Pocket Revolvers with gorgeous old-patina mother-of-pearl grips in near perfect condition. The action works perfectly, including the palm safety. All in Very Good condition with the nickel showing some age-appropriate freckling (see photos). (This 32 S&W was originally the property of a U.S. Marshal, location and name now lost to history). The 32 Safety First Model D.A. Revolver was also known as the 32 Safety Hammerless New Departure and Lemon Squeezer. Manufactured between 1888 and 1902, there were a total of 91,417 produced. 32 S&W Caliber. 5-shot fluted cylinder. This revolver has a 3 1/2" round barrel the rarest of the three; the model was made in 2", 3" and 3&1/2" round barrels. Serial numbering from 1 to 91417. Appropriately marked with serial number 32,2XX on the butt strap and the company name and address is marked on the barrel with the correct patent dates of 1877, 1880, 1883, and 1885. Known to many as the "Safety Hammerless", this gun was unusual in three major respects. The hammer was concealed, and thus the gun could only be fired double-action, and a safety bar set onto the backstrap had to be simultaneously squeezed to allow for firing. the origin of one nickname "Lemon Squeezer" is obvious. This particular revolver uniquely features auto-eject cylinder and an adjustable trigger. The size is small, so this piece of new technology was also truly a pocket hideaway revolver. It was made on the break open principle, a significant detail of the first model is the location of the knurled barrel release at the back center of the topstrap; rather than on the sides as on later models. 1890's S&W 32 Safety First Model D.A.
