The Smith & Wesson 317 Kit Gun is a small-frame, AirLite-style .22 Long Rifle revolver with an exposed hammer and an eight-round cylinder. It is built as a lightweight "kit" revolver intended for outdoor and recreational use.
The revolver features an aluminum-alloy frame and cylinder with a matte silver finish, a synthetic (black) round-style grip, and a listed weight of 12.5 oz. Its overall length is 7.19 in with a 3.0 in barrel.
Sighting is provided by a HI-VIZ fiber-optic front sight and an adjustable rear sight. The action is single- and double-action (SA/DA).
