Seller Description
Serial number prefix on this Smith & Wesson Model 65-4 .357 Magnum Stainless 4 inch Heavy Barrel (all of them are heavy barrel, of course) is BJJ. It was manufactured some time between mid 1992 and early 1994, probably 1992. It has extensive light surface scuffing and several small moderate pecks in the finish. We estimate it to rate Very Good finishwise, with 70 to 80 percent of its original finish intact. It has been lightly polished, but original streaked finish remains strong, especially on the cylinder. The original finish remains strong, about 90 percent, on the satin stainless hammer and trigger. Sideplate screw stressing is negligible. Replacement Michaels grips are Excellent, with light scuffing only on some of their sharp edges. Mechanically, we consider this 65-4 to be Excellent. Blast effect to the frame topstrap underside directly above forcing cone amounts to light etching only, no cutting, that extends laterally for about 60 percent of that area’s width. On double action, the hammer travels an additional 3 to 5 degrees after the cylinder times into place; on single action, the additional travel amounts to 10 to 15 degrees in all positions. Lockup is very tight: there is less than 1mm worth of movement laterally to the cylinder in lock position. Double action trigger pull is stiff but consistent and smooth; single action is very crisp, about 3 pounds. This is a very nice, eminently serviceable model 65-4. It comes in a factory generic brown box with the appropriate bar-coded label. Own it for only $ 319.95
