Here is the last of a classic little rifle, the Rossi R243 in black synthetic with scope mount and fiber optic sights. Manufacturer is Taurus Held Amadeo Rossi S.A. of Sao Leopoldo, Brazil. Importer and warrantor is Braztech of Miami. Type is breech lever single shot center fire rifle. Chambering is .243 Winchester caliber. Rossi lists it as a youth rifle, but its length and proportions are adult sized. Metal is entirely blue steel, with polymer trigger guard. Stock and forend are graphite based black synthetic. Barrel is 22 inch medium tapered, .635 outside diameter at the muzzle, .700 osd at the forend tip, and 1.105 at the breech face. Bore is six groove button rifled 1:10 right hand. Sights are screw on polymer, high ramp type front with red fiber optic insert, and 700 type rear with dual green fiber optic insert, and that is windage and elevation adjustable. Scope base is Weaver number 92A, 4 slot with 4 screw retention. Trigger is .312 smooth faced steel, with .300 serrated spur hammer. Breech lever is on the right side of the hammer. Trigger pulls at 4 pounds vicinity, with negligible felt creep. Receiver has a transfer bar safety device, a receiver mounted lever safety, and an internal hammer lock. Chamber has an extractor, not an ejector. Forend is short schnabel type with lateral checkring, and buttstock has a detachable Monte Carlo that will raise the comb drop from 1 1/2 inches installed to 2 inches removed. Buttstock length of pull is 13 1/4 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 3/4 inch recoil pad. Forend and buttstock have blued steel sling swivels. Buttstock has a 3/4 inch right hand cant, so this rifle is not altogether southpaw friendly. Weight empty is 6 pounds 9.5 ounces, with center of gravity at the receiver’s pivot pin. Overall length is a relatively compact 36 1/2 inches. Each R243 comes in its factory box with protective papers, instruction manual, safety flyers, two keys for its hammer lock, and factory registration card.
