Seller Description
From a New England collection comes this serviceable Iver Johnson Revolver, model 57 Target rimfire. Manufacturer was Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works of Fitchburg, MA. The model 57 was only manufactured from 1956 until 1960. From its D4000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1956 or 1957. Type is traditional single and double action revolver with roll out cylinder and hammer nose firing pin ignition. Construction is entirely steel metal, with original composite brown thumb rest target one piece. Barrel is 6 inch six groove right hand 1:16 rifling. Sights are two piece screw on ramp and riveted blade front; with dovetailed black blade windage and elevation adjustable rear. Trigger is .350 serrated face, with .400 wide serrated spur hammer. Cylinder holds 8 rounds of .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle ammunition interchangeably. Safety system is internal transfer bar. Weight empty is 29 1/2 ounces, with center of gravity at the trigger. Overall length is 11 inches, height is 5 inches, and cylinder thickness is 1.33 inches. Finish is blued steel, with case colored hammer and trigger. Surface detractions on this revolver are extensive; with perhaps 40 percent of its original bluing remaining around the frame. We rate it as Fair, perhaps Good, 50 to 60 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Double Action trigger pull is not consistent on all 8, ranges from 12 to 18 pounds with hitches on 2 positions. Single action is consistent two stage, 5 1/2 pounds. With the trigger fully depressed, there is no lateral cylinder play. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this revolver was fired 2,000 times. Steel frame US Made Revolvers carry replacement pricing well over $500. We’re offering the Eisenhower Era Iver Johnson model 57 Target in the photos, however, for only $ 169.00. Not transferable to non C&R Civilians in Massachusetts.
