The origins of the 1980s term Wonder Nine derived, of course, from John Moses Browning’s postmortem introduced model of 1935 Hi-Power. Smith & Wesson followed the P-38 design with its model 59 high capacity pistol in 1971, but Czech engineers followed the Old Master with their CZ-75 four years later. Almost immediately, in 1982, Tangfolio of Italy cloned the then behind-the-iron-curtain CZ75 with this specimen’s ancestors, the earliest TZ-75s. Manufacturer was Tangfolio of Italy, and this pistol had more direct influence upon the Israeli Baby Eagle than the CZ75 itself did. It survives today as the E.A.A. Witness. This specimen of the TZ-75 was manufactured in 1985 from its AN Italian Date Code. Like the progenitor CZ-75, it is a traditional double- and single action auto. Its main departure is the slide mounted right hand shooter decocker safety lever; the TZ75 will not carry cocked and locked like the CZ75 will. This pistol does not have a firing pin block or safety, so its single action trigger pull is crisper than most. The .305 wide serrated spur hammer has a half cock position for safety-off double action carry, but the recommended way to carry is safety full engaged with the car in park. Magazine is original Tangfolio prouction, 1985 pre-Ban blue steel. Capacity is 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition. This pistol will accept Baby Eagle magazines just fine, but will not accept Mec-Gar CZ-75 Sixteen Rounders. Slide is serrated rear for easy operation; and its 4.7 inch barrel with double cam slide lock matches its Browning ancestor. Chrome finished smooth face .315 combat trigger yields a smooth, consistent double action trigger pull of 7/8 inch distance; single action trigger travel measures about 1/3 inch with minimal felt creep. Trigger gauges at 4 pounds with only moderate felt creep on single action. Sights are stake-on low partridge white lined front with dovetailed, modified white outline configuration rear fixed sight. Construction is entirely steel, with a bright blue finish that is original to the pistol. Grips are original Italian hardwood. Ease of disassembly and reassembly exceeds all other pistols on the market even today, with hash marks on the disassembly position for easy removal of the slide stop / barrel link pin; disassembly yields grip frame, barrel, guide rod and spring. Weight empty is 35 ounces. These pistols are known for being garbage-mouthed, feeding any type ammunition reliably. Another strong suite is their slides mate precisely to the frames, full steel-rail-to-steel-rail contact, not with a slide resting on four small runners like their Austrian competitors. Surface detractions on this TZ-75 are minimal, only faint amounts of edge whitening and faint scouring to the right grip panel. We classify it as Very Good, perhaps Even Excellent, 85 to 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. From our knowledge of its late owner, a highly successful Memphis businessman, it has been fired fewer than 400 times. This is a well made, well preserved steel frame pistol.
