EAA’s Windicator® revolvers are some of the best to be had for under $400. We have sold them now for 50 years. Photo specimen is the Windicator’s direct ancestor, the FIE Arminius Target Revolver chambered in .38 Special. German model number is HW38T. This one comes to us from a light duty security career in New England. From its IF German Date Code, it was manufactured in 1975. Manufacturer is Hermann Weihrauch Revolver GmbH of Mellrichstadt, Germany. Importer was Firearms Import and Export Corp of Miami, direct ancestor to EAA. Construction is steel one piece barrel, cylinder assembly, hammer, trigger, and internal parts with an alloy main frame and grip frame. Type is traditional double and single action revolver. Ignition is hammer against floating firing pin. All Arminius series revolvers have a transfer bar internal safety that prevents the hammer from contacting the firing pin unless the trigger is fully depressed. Barrel is one piece .675 diameter steel, with six groove right hand 18.75 rifling. Front Sight is three post serrated top vent rib that mates to the frame top serrations. Rear sight is alloy body, steel screw windage and elevation click adjustable. Trigger is .250 serrated face service width, with .240 checkered serration hammer. Cylinder is true swingout with serrated thumb latch and checkered surface steel ejection rod. Chambering is six rounds of .38 Smith & Wesson Special standard velocity non +P ammunition. Firing +P rounds can batter the frame face, as we have seen in the past. Grips are one piece thumb rest target type, and will not accommodate a speedloader. This revolver will, however, accept current production black rubber Windicator® Grips, and those will accommodate an HKS 10A speedloader. Finish is blued steel and semi gloss anodized on the alloy surfaces. Weight empty is 32 ounces with center of gravity at the trigger. Surface detractions on this specimen are only moderate, principally some finish freckling on the cylinder and barrel, with moderate edge wear. We rate it as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent, and single action pull measures in the 5 pound vicinity. Cylinder times correctly with hammer travel to spare in all six positions on single and double action. Lateral play to the cylinder is negligible. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is minimal, no cutting. We estimate this HW38 has been fired fewer than 500 times, all with standard velocity ammunition. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Replacement pricing on the Windicator is well above $300 in our area. We’re offering the HW38 in the photos, however, for only $ 219.00.
