Interesting Colt Official Police Revolver serial #36781, 38 special, 4" barrel with an excellent bore. This beautiful condition Official Police is serial numbered in the 22 LR series of frames and has no factory rework marks. This 1951-made revolver retains about 99% factory blue with a few minor handling marks and a faint turn ring on the cylinder. The checkered "Coltwood" factory grips with Rampant Colt logo rate very good with light handling marks and a small chip off the butt of the right panel. Interestingly, not only is the gun assembled on the wrong frame but it has no factory verified proof or assembler's marks suggesting this may have been an "employee assembled/lunch box special" gun. Whatever the story behind this mystery gun it should bring untold hours of pleasure trying to sort out the possibilities.
