Colt 1847 Walker--Second Generation

Colt made only 1,100 of this model, but it was enough to get Sam Colt out of bankruptcy, even though it wasn't an unqualified success. The loading lever tended to flop down, and because 19th century metallurgy wasn't up to the 60-grain powder charge, it had a regrettable tendency to blow up. But, its ballistics were superior to any handgun until the .357 magnum cartridge--so it was a natural for Clint Eastwood in "The Outlaw Josey Wales." This second-generation Walker has never been fired, but a slight mar on the loading lever shows that the lever was operated at one time or another in its history, so the cylinder may have been turned even before I rotated it enough to coat it with Renaissance (brand) wax. Original box is in excellent condition, and all paperwork, manual, hang-tag intact and sealed as shipped from the factory. Accordingly, I have priced it according to Dennis Russell's 2008 price guide for a piece in 98 percent condition plus a premium for the original packaging. This price will hold until the publication of Russell's 2010 price guide.
