Serialization on AMT pistols is enigmatic. This one’s serial number is a very low C Prefix, 500 range. From our A&D books of the period and AMTs with similar range serial numbers, we estimate this AMT Automat II was manufactured in 1989 or 1990. This is the scarcest of all the Automag II Pistols, the compact variant with 3 1/2 inch or 3 5/8 inch barrel, depends on who’s measuring. Construction is entirely stainless steel, with characteristic gray cast steel frame and slide uppers, with brushed stainless, serrated slide sides. The basic design of the AMT is more akin to the 1911 than anything else, blowback semi-auto with bushing and full length stainless guide rod. Weight empty is 25.4 ounces. Capacity is 7 + 1 rounds of .22 Winchester Magnum caliber ammunition; and from our recollection of a moderate amount of experience with the Automag IIs, they digested Federal 45 or 50 grain bullets. Sights are Millett white T-Bar rear that is windage and elevation adjustable, with red ramp front. This pistol comes with a total of two factory magazines; and the magazines are prizes in their own right. The safety simply prevents the hammer from depressing the firing pin. There is no firing pin safety. This particular specimen comes to us from its home in Indiana. Surface detractions are moderate, principally moderate scouring and buffing on its sharp edges, principally on the left side of he frame. We rate it as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
