After teasing us nearly a decade ago with a folding “briefcase” gun based on a Glock operating system, Magpul is finally bringing that gun to market. Aiming for a 2023 release, Magpul has partnered with Zev Technologies to bring us the FDP-9 // FDC-9.

Set to be released as a large-format pistol chambered in 9mm, the Folding Defensive Pistol (FDP-9), and the Folding Defensive Carbine (FDC-9) will use a Magpul chassis and a proprietary variant of the ZEV OZ9 operating system.

The FDP-9 is classified as a “pistol” per ATF and users will be able to purchase it from their local FFL just like any other pistol. This FDP model can also be legally converted into an FDC-9 after a Form 1 is filled out and approved, however, Magpul will also offer the SBR version straight from the factory in the FDC-9 configuration.

Magpul told us that the ATF has approved both of these variants so now we all just have to wait on production.

The FDP-9 will come with a rear sling mount, and the FDC-9 will be shaped more like a typical stock when unfolded.

Magpul told us that while the system uses a standard Glock slide, the lower is completely proprietary and will not be able to be fired outside of the main housing.

There is still work to be done as the models displayed at SHOT Show were just prototypes, but Magpul has a history of delivering. Click HERE to learn more.

Considering that even the non-stock version can easily still be shouldered or shot from a good cheek weld, this weapon absolutely would beat a standard handgun in range and stability applications, possibly even replacing an ar or Pcc style truck gun. It’s obviously not meant to be an everyday carry or body carry, but has more of a shtf bag/truck gun application. Pretty obvious they aren’t trying to market this as a Glock replacement, lol.

A lot of whining boomers in the comments. It’s a novelty gun because we can’t own new production machine guns thanks to illegal firearm regulations. That said once we defeat the ATF this will be easily converted to auto.

I agree with the majority of comments here, junk with no purpose but to spray ammo downrange.

So the user has to carry this brick around? Unless it’s full auto I don’t see a tactical advantage or even a point to this.

My Glock fits inside a briefcase now, why do I need to make it bigger, and change it’s gender?

Another answer to a question nobody asked…

Agree , novelty item , soon to be illegal.

Better buy one soon, the gestapo is changing the definition of a firearm. Appears to be part of Brandon’s woke administration plan. Next, they’ll be redefining the 2nd. smdh.

The ATF also OKed things like bump stocks and hard reset triggers…and now they are doing about-faces on some of these decisions.

… Because ATF is a White House-appointed agency … and we know how that’s going ….
