Tucker Carlson Goes Toe-to-Toe With Gun-Control Advocate

in Authors, Current Events, S.H. Blannelberry

Last week, Joshua Horowitz, the Executive Director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, appeared on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” to discuss, among other subjects, how tougher gun control laws would work to reduce gun-related violence in Chicago.

Carlson said to Horowitz, “go on to your website… one of the things you say is one of the big problems is assault rifles.”

He then posed the question, “Of the 762 murders that were committed in Chicago, how many were committed with assault rifles?”

“Well, I don’t know if that’s actually from my website,” Horowitz responded, apparently attempting to dodge the question.

“It is actually, I have it right here,” said Carlson.

“Let me explain to you about assault weapons,” Horowitz then said. “Assault weapons make killing more lethal, OK. So what we have in that situation is assault weapons have more deaths per shootings.”

“They don’t necessarily cause more shootings,” he continued. “When you use an assault rifle in a crime, you end up with more people dead and more rounds fired.”

“OK, so Chicago, there’s 762 murders last year,” Carlson posed the question a second time. “How many were committed with so-called assault weapons?”

Horowitz tried to duck and dodge once again.

“Well you run a gun control website. What’s the answer?” Carlson asked.

“I don’t know,” admitted Horowitz.

What’s the takeaway from this exchange? Mainly, that when it comes to defending their positions, gun control advocates rely more on emotion than fact. The reality is that so-called “assault weapons” are rarely used in gun homicides. In fact, rifles of any make or model are rarely used in crimes. See chart from the National Review.

But beyond that fact that they are infrequently used by bad guys, the ultimate reason it makes no sense to ban them is because it’s the shooter who is responsible for the act — not the gun.  Just as we don’t blame automobiles for traffic accidents, we blame the drunk or impaired driver behind the wheel, we shouldn’t blame the firearm.

Did I really hear that anti gun pos say that a 30-30 was more powerful than a 30-06? Where do these people come from? He has about as much gun knowledge as your typical liberal communist. remember that the first thing Hitler did when he gained power was to disarm his citizens, how did that turn out?

The U.S. Army defines assault rifles as “short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges.”[16] In a strict definition, a firearm must have at least the following characteristics to be considered an assault rifle:[2][3][4]

It must be capable of selective fire.
It must have an intermediate-power cartridge: more power than a pistol but less than a standard rifle or battle rifle.
Its ammunition must be supplied from a detachable box magazine.[5]
It must have an effective range of at least 300 metres (330 yards).
Rifles that meet most of these criteria, but not all, are technically not assault rifles, despite frequently being called such.

    For example:

Select-fire M2 Carbines are not assault rifles; their effective range is only 200 yards.[17]
Select-fire rifles such as the FN FAL battle rifle are not assault rifles; they fire full-powered rifle cartridges.
Semi-automatic-only rifles like variants of the Colt AR-15 are not assault rifles; they do not have select-fire capabilities.
Semi-auto rifles with fixed magazines like the SKS are not assault rifles; they do not have detachable box magazines and are not capable of automatic fire.
Selective fire rifles like the Fedorov Avtomat which in hindsight could be classified as prototypical assault rifles. However, 6.5x50mm Arisaka is still very much a full-powered rifle cartridge, only slightly weaker than 7.62x51mm NATO.

Not much to repeat. However, I don’t remember seeing that lower graph display of 17% “unknown firearms”? WTF is that?

  • FirstStateMark January 13, 2017, 11:05 pm

The only thing gun control laws do is hinder law abiding citizens who own or want to own a gun. Do you really think criminals abide by the law. NO! That’s why we call them criminals. I can’t for the life of me figure out how the liberal brain works.

…….The Gun control Initiative was started by the Lefty, Liberals, following the Communist Manifesto strict rules of the Disarmament of the Masses, ……of course this with the sole intent to control and prevent retaliation by the Proletariat!!,……They are still actively pursuing that goal, and if they do succeed, we are done as a Republic!!,….America!!,…Vote this traitors out of office as soon as their next election!!,….Long Live the Republic!!,….

What I don’t hear from gun proponents is the reason FOR the second amendment and that is to maintain a weaponized advantage over the federal government to keep them from doing exactly what this last dictator in the White House has done…….The federal government should fear the law abiding electorate and all anti second efforts and those pushing those efforts need to be removed from office. The constitution includes “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” and that sentence is important. It talks of a well regulated militia but the primary focus of the second is for the people to protect themselves from a tyrannical government.

    • deanbob January 13, 2017, 5:05 pm

… the last phrase of the 2A is almost as important – “shall not be infringed.” – and yet few stress those 4 words nor seem ready to define what the mean!

  • Robin Shumaker January 13, 2017, 3:02 pm

    states don’t prove anything

  • Alan January 13, 2017, 2:15 pm

Say Horowitz, just how does an “assault weapon” make killing more “lethal”?!?!?!?!?
So if I shoot a bad guy dead with my pistol, he won’t stay dead?!?!?!? and he would if I used an “assault weapon”???
    I thought lethal was lethal????
I’m convinced that was a stupid statement for the benefit of the great majority of firearm illiterate idiot Lefties.
Or is he really THAT grammatically inept??

  • TJ Reeder January 13, 2017, 2:06 pm

I really have to stop watching this stuff, when i hear some halfwit leftest anti-gun hack speak it makes me want to buy another gun and frankly I have so many now I can’t afford to feed them! I may have to start a Go Fund Me account to get donations to help me feed the poor starving critters.
Nothing these snake oil sales types have to say is worth the time wasted listening to them and if they really believe what they are saying and doing then they should donate their paycheck to a fund to help gunshot victims.
I think I’ll visit my local gun shop…

  • JPN January 13, 2017, 10:04 am

I’m a CCL holder, gun-rights proponent, but with all due respect, Tucker Carlson is a complete jackass. He invites the lamest people onto his show, people who are not experts at public speaaking like he is, and then tries to make them look stupid all while just talking over their attempts to answer his “gotcha” questions. It worked in this case, but when he comes up against someone with even a little public speaking experience, he makes a complete fool of himself. Lauren Duca showed what a classless little low-intelligence man Carlson is, for example.

    • Rick January 13, 2017, 11:06 am

Your comment makes you sound like a closet liberal democrat. You single out Carlson Tucker who is against gun control and have sympathy for some dumbass that can’t even support his own arguments for his cause. JPN everyone should rule with the intelligent portion of their brain and not the emotional part.

      • JPN January 15, 2017, 7:19 am

I didn’the express any sympathy for anyone, least of all little Tucker’so foil here. Reading comprehension issues here.

    • Earl January 13, 2017, 11:36 am

The ONLY jackass here is you , my poor , pitiful ignorant friend . In the 50 years that I have been following the attacks on our Constitution by ignorant fools like yourself , the ONLY reason ” you people ” have destroyed as many of our liberties is this ………
MOST AMERICANS ARE GULLIBLE SHEEP who believe the Propaganda BS put forth on the Mainstream Media ( the ministry of propaganda for the Progressive / Democrat party ) !

Note * Very few of average American citizens ” pay attention ” .

      • JPN January 15, 2017, 7:21 am

        I attacked the Constitution? Lol

        No.

Your just making things up to advance some point that nobody here is disputing. Really not necessary. Also, it makes you look like the jackass

    • Michael Keim January 13, 2017, 12:49 pm

You are a liar. You’re not pro gun. You’re an anti gun shill. Carlson didn’t make this guy look stupid; Horowitz made himself look stupid. He made ridiculous statements about thumb hole stocks, muzzlebrakes, and cartridge power. If you knew anything you would know this. The AR 15 has a pistol grip stock. The 223 has very little recoil therefore very little muzzle rise even without a muzzlebrake. The 30/30 isn’t more powerful than the 3006. I have a M1A that has a regular stock. Does that make it less lethal than the dreaded “thumb hole stock”? The 3006 was developed to be used as a military cartridge. The 223 is a varmint cartridge. His statement “more lethal” is in itself stupid, dead is dead. Go back to reading Cat Fancier and kissing whatever liberal ass tastes best to you.

      • JPN January 16, 2017, 7:54 am

You are a liar aND a bigger moron than even your dreamboat Carlson is. Go back to grade school and learn to read with understanding, you uneducated little tool.

  • Abby Normal January 13, 2017, 10:02 am

The problem with anti-gun advocates is that the loud “bang” they makes skeers them so.

  • badbob January 13, 2017, 9:47 am

Gun grabbers have no stats on their side. They use fear and lies. Semi auto assault rifle, Saturday night special, plastic gin, cop killing gun, cop killing bullets are a fear words coined in the back rooms of the Brady center. It takes a lot of donations to keep Sarah living in the manor she is a custom, $900,000 a year. Not a bad wage from a “none profit” organization. She also receives $5,000 to show up with her machine gun toting bodyguards to pitch her lies. If the so called none profit organization revolved around anything but disarming this nation the group would have been jailed years ago.

I have studied the gun laws of a lot of nations and America is the only nation that the major population can defend them self. That’s why these people from other nations keep telling us not to give up our arms as when we do it’s over for America and the world. Anyone telling you he wants to protect you by taking the tools you use to protect you, your family, and your property is stupid, a tyrant, or both.

  • Mister Ronald January 13, 2017, 9:25 am

The problem I see with the Anti-second amendment people is – THEY ARE VERY UNINFORMED AND HAVE “NO” KNOWLEDGE ABOUT FIREARMS.
They seem to only talk to only each other and mis-information gets passed around as true gospel information that is not correct.
They should actually get themselves educated on firearms but then they would most likely walk away from the anti gun groups they belong to.

  • flintman50 January 13, 2017, 8:13 am

Kudos for the “Coalition to Stop Gun Violence” for hiring the mentally impaired – Horowitz.

    • Earl January 13, 2017, 11:39 am

      LMAO ! Sad But True

  • S. Wharem January 13, 2017, 7:27 am

Just the same unsubstantiated crap the left has been spouting for years. Tucker makes very valid points throughout and this clown just keeps repeating the same litany. Tell a lie loud enough and often enough and it becomes a truth. The left has used this tactic time and time again. It is purely a control issue. Gun laws don’t prevent anything and unenforced gun laws embolden criminals. Obama’s Justice Department allowed, a know Gun trafficker of illegal gun sales, to plead down charges and wind up with probation. You tell me why the left would behave in this manner. Say one thing and do another.

  • Mike January 13, 2017, 7:14 am

I watched that episode live…I was so appalled I wrote Tucker. I didn’t get any response because I assumed 10 million people wrote as well. That guest was the worst, but that’s what makes great TV and why Tucker has rose to fame.

  • Jim January 13, 2017, 6:45 am

Ladies and Gentlemen, just remember……..this guy and those of his ilk, are all about ONE thing……CONTROL, CONTROL, CONTROL.

  • IYearn4nARnCali January 11, 2017, 3:45 am

*WARNING* *SILLYNESS INBOUND* Obviously, the single unifying factor is air, a little talked about fact is that AIR, you know O2, is breathed by both the victims and perpetrators of GHON VIELANCE!!@#!@#!@ in every single gun death. What’s worse is that air is totally unregulated! Any person can just breathe in air without a license, without laws in place to address the criminal misuse of the air, there’s no waiting period, no background checks, cause kids you know, I mean, you know, I mean…

That is usually what the PEOPLE control advocates sound like.
    Rule 1: You lost
    Rule 2: You lost
Rule 3: Not only did you lose, but, you lost.
Rule 4: Next time around you’ll win, but ONLY if you run Hillary Clinton again.
Rule 5: Third times the charm, and gun control is a winning issue. Just try it again please, PLEAASSEEE.

Watch the video. Horowitz is a typical fear-mongering, clueless, fact ignoring, gun hater.

    * Horowitz says gun ownership is not up, just more guns owned by the few. B.S. I was working at an Illinois gun store 2013, saw the many new gun owners coming into the shop. Applications for Illinois Firearms Identification Cards were at such high levels, that St Police had a +3 month back log of applications (to become a new gun owner) by summer of that year. The number of FOID card holders has increased substantially since 2013. “We’re receiving over 70,000 applications a month now, so we’re probably closer to 1.5 million card holders now and we’re still having record months,” said Lt. Darrin Clark of the state police. http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2013-03-13/tom-kacich-gun-ownership-growing-illinois-fading-nationally.html

    * Idiot, Horowitz says the only purpose of the modern sporting rifle is to, “kill people.” Funny, Illinois law recognizes the use of the modern sporting rifle as a useful tool for the hunting of coyote: “Coyotes may be hunted on private property using dogs, archery devices, any type and caliber of handgun, any type of legal rifle including large capacity semi-automatic rifles, and shotguns using any type of shell.”

    * Horowitz is a oxymoron, or maybe just a plain ole moron. While avoiding the question asked, he said we have to make sure law-abiding citizens are not transferring to criminals. What? Is he talking about criminals stealing firearms from law-abiding citizens, and then selling them to other criminals? That would be criminals, transferring to criminals, moron.

    * When asked what it was about the “.223 round,” fired from the so called, “assault weapon,” that made it so, dangerous (Carlson could have said, “.925 round,” or any other random 3 digits, and this idiot wouldn’t have known the difference), Horowitz said, “The velocity.” Never mind that most, or all of Chicago’s 760+ record homicides were probably committed at around 1000 fps, not 3000 fps.

    • Earl January 13, 2017, 11:53 am

Well Said , My Friend !
The ONLY REASON that this is an issue at all is this ……. The Mainstream Media ( also known as The Progressive/Democrat Ministry Of Propaganda ) tell the gullible American public ( sheep ) that AR type rifles are a problem .

FACT * About 1% of killings are commited with ALL simi-auto rifles . To hear the MSM tell it , they are the main source of murder in this country . Sad …..

  • SuperG January 10, 2017, 10:45 am

I found Joshua Horowitz comparable to the leader of the American Nazi Party, in that they both wholeheartedly believe the dogma they spew forth, but avoid answering direct questions that challenge it.
