Rock legend Ted Nugent recently chimed in on the heated debate surrounding Jason Aldean’s controversial new track, “Try That in A Small Town.”
Critics accused the song of promoting lynching, leading to its removal from Country Music Television’s (CMT) lineup.
Despite the controversy, the song has soared in popularity, trending on YouTube and securing number one on the Hot Country Songs chart. It also nabbed second place on the Billboard Hot 100.
In an interview with Fox News‘ Jimmy Failla, Nugent voiced support for Aldean. He suggested that critics were misinterpreting the song’s intended message.
“I know there’s a bunch of idiots out there, but you need to learn to get a kick out of the idiots. The idiots hate this Jason Aldean song because they hate when we push back against violence,” he told Failla.
“They always get it 180 degrees wrong. This song is against violence. The song is about self-defense. The song is about protecting your loved ones in your neighborhood. If you find fault with a song that celebrates protecting your loved ones, your neighborhood, you might be going down to Target to the Satan display and get down on your knees,” he added.

Nugent scoffed at those finding fault in the song’s message of self-defense and community protection, accusing them of lacking soul.
“These are just weird people. We dismiss them because they’ve gotten out of hand because they’ve got no soul. I laugh in their face,” he said.
The rock star also affirmed his staunch support for values such as family, country, Constitution, and the Ten Commandments, among others.
“I’ve always stood up radically – really extremist – for God, family, country, Constitution, Bill of Rights, Ten Commandments, golden rule, work ethic, law and order, all that really radical stuff, and that represents the heart and soul of the best, most passionate, most cocky, most fun people in the world,” the motor city madman explained.
He acknowledged the power of social media and its ability to connect with people globally.
“The reach of social media gets to good people all over the world, and all the good people in the world are saying what the Nugent family says: ‘Go, Jason, go… we salute you, and we stand with you,’” Nugent cheered.
According to Billboard, the song registered the highest sales for a country track in over a decade, despite the storm of controversy it whipped up. Here’s the music video:

What values does Ted Nugent emphasize in his statements regarding self-defense and community protection slope run?
I like this song, the melody is so good
Ted Nugent’s comments on the controversial Jason Aldean song serve as a ricepuritytest of the diverse perspectives within the music industry. His stance highlights the complexity of interpreting artistic expression and the varying reactions it can provoke among audiences and fellow artists.
It’s encouraging to see that more companies are attempting to increase sales. It would be fantastic if you could suggest some lovely and trustworthy agents.
People have taken to Twitter to defend – or criticize — Aldean in the aftermath of the incident.
I support Ted, very well said
Love Uncle Ted!! Always makes me laugh and glad he has a voice for us true Americans.
Love that song!!
I SUPPORT JASON AND HIS IDEAS 100%. ANYONE WHO IS A TRUE RED BLOODED AMERICAN THAT SUPPORTS HONESTY ,TRUTHFULLNESS,AND BELIEVES IN GOD AND COUNTRY, AND SUPPORTS THE CONSTITUION , AND LAW AND ORDER, AND HONORS OUR FLAG WILL ALWAYS GET MY SUPPORT!!!!
In my “Small Town” ,we will stack Antifa and BLM trash high and wide
Well said, uncle Ted! The leftwing in this country hate EVERYTHING that is positive or good in America; “THEY” want this Republic DEAD, and will say or do anything to degrade this nation and her people. The only thing I still find puzzling, is how many Americans remain IGNORANT of the lies and deceit spewed by the Marxist infiltrators who have taken-over this nation’s media and government bureaucracy! The Poison runs Deep in the system now!
Jason Aldean is not exactly pro 2nd amendment, look no further then his comments following the LasVegas shooting. Stop supporting frauds like this douche.
Don’t know todays musicians that well. So, I had to confirm your take on Aldean and you nailed it. He’s not the worst voice out there by far, but he crossed some lines that will keep me from strongly supporting him now or in the future.
I think it’s a great song and it Expresses my feelings Totally! Go Jason and write another one!
The song’s only controversial if your head is up your nether regions.
This country needs a grassroots organization of retired people, who have paid taxes all thier lives, to form a security organization to protect large cities from being burned. They have the time, maturity, and experiance to do it. The Trump followers are I guess to busy or scared to stand on ANY street and even protest. Only the older folks really care…
Why didnt the good people in the big towns stand and protect thier town ? One boy named Kyle did, and the demoncrats called him a terrorist, because he tried to STOP the buildings from being burned !
Am not a rocker but good for Ted…! For sure “a bunch of idiots out there” and that the song no more “promotes lynching” than Mickey Mouse. The racism isn’t the song but the objections to it and bogus claims from the REAL racists Crazy. Play it again and again.
awsome! perfect ! right on the money ! this is the way we are raised. this is the truth of our beginning’s the way we as a people formed our country ! this is our unassailable right to defend our own. our friends our familys the weak the sick. we are responsible to defend our selves ..
Thank you Ted! You always seem to have the right words to express what I think most of feel but are not as good at expressing.
I applaud Jason Aldean for stating what most of the country believes. I have no problems with people who exercise their Constitutional rights. The problem is that some of these people feel that they have a right to loot and burn. How is this not a crime? That being said it should be treated as such. That is what this song is about.
Nothing more nothing less. What is racial about defending yourself and your family against criminals.
Right “Damn” On!
Ted Nugent is a fraud. This wannabe ‘patriot’ went out of his way to NOT serve in the military, for OUR country. I despise and loathe anyone who goes out of their way to not serve, and then pretend they’re supporters of our military. His ‘hunting’ from a tree stand shooting farm raised animals from where they’re fed and watered isn’t something that I admire either. But when he wears his sheer face mask right before the shot it’s at least comical.
Did you participate in that worthless bullshit of a war??? One that we could not win because we didn’t really want to. Why don’t you volunteer to go to fight Putin then?? And take the usual anti hunting comment and stick it where the sun doensn’t shine, pal.
Kinda sound like you’re from CA🫢😂
I’m in California. I served in 1970. I Hunt and own over 30 guns. Kinda sound like you got a problem.
I’ve got some cool relatives and friends in and from Cali, just referring to the crazy stereotypical city kinda person that this guy seems to be. If I knew he lived here in Texas, would’ve said he’s from Austin.
Got no problem here, lol!
And George is just an ignorant FOOL. When did YOU wear the uniform, chump? A LOT of people did NOT fight in Vietnam! But you want too single-out ONE MAN? The real problem you have is, Ted is RIGHT and YOU hate this Republic! And I hope you never learn too hunt! When times get tough – and they WILL – the rest of us can all take comfort in the knowledge that you – and many more like you – won’t be around very long! YOU are part of the problem in this nation today. YOU are the FRAUD, posing as an American!
In my 56 years on this planet, country music has been my least favorite style. Rush, Oingo Boingo, Metallica, Billie holiday, John Lee Hooker, Ella Fitzgerald, Ale Storm (not Halestorm), Tom McDonald, all preferred over country music…… However, lately as I grow older and have moved to a semi-rural part of the country outside one of the most liberal cities in the US, I find that I am starting to here more of my values, my beliefs, my frustrations in the recordings of country artists. I have watched my beloved birth city change in ways I never believed possible, I have seen acts of violence and the subsequent tolerance of so many in our Govt. officials. I had heard there was some controversy about it, so I listened to this song and to be open and honest, it brought me to tears. Jason, you among others are changing my tune, Bless you for your courage to speak the truth. As a new (10 yrs) resident of a “Small Town” with no stop sign, a 1 room church, Post Office, auto-repair shop and combination mini-mart/bait &Tackle/Grill, I support and salute you.
Always been a Bob Segar man, myself, and a Ted Nugent fan, of course, being born and raised in Detroit may have some bearing on that :); never cared much for MOST “Country” music, but Aldean and a few others have caught my attention and earned my respect. Right-On, Todd! Well said!
I did not realize before this interview–that what Uncle Ted said–that it’s not just the patriots in the US who support the ideas in the song but right-thinking folks across the globe. How refreshing! Stay safe.
United We Stand, Divided We Fall..Great song.Glad to see people thinking.
Not sure why Ted thinks he’s a patriot, or why others think he is, when he was a draft dodger during Vietnam. He had a chance to serve his country and passed. I like his music, but he’s a hypocrite IMO.

So you only admire those who have served? That must be a short list.
I served and no one would dream of admiring me. Maybe because I haven’t spent my whole working life standing up for 2nd amendment rights like Ted has. I don’t give a crap if he didn’t go to Vietnam. He had plenty of company. The corrupt government we have today was just flexing it’s self-centered muscles back then getting kickbacks from Grumman, Lockheed, Bell, and all the other weapons makers with no consideration of the brave men who thought they were fighting for their country and died for the flag. I’m sorry, but I no longer would encourage anyone to serve in the military for this corrupt government, the opposite of the way I felt in 1972.
Good thing you are OUT of the military now, Max! They don’t need anymore short-sighted hypocrites, like YOU. Nugent has stood-up in defense of the RIGHTS of the American people for decades, and clowns like you single him out because he did not wear the uniform! NEWS FLASH, nit-wit, LOTS of people never wore the uniform! That does not make them un-patriotic. So you don’t know what you are talking about! Your judgment is deeply flawed and you display your ignorance of WHY many of us DID wear the uniform! What have YOU done for the Republic RECENTLY?

Jason Aldean you made this hardened 64 year old grandfather cry. Stand straight and keep doing what you do. God Bless.
Amen, brother.

I love it and I’ll stand up for him and back him all the way. God bless you Chaplain Dale Stearns
While I support and agree with Aldean’s message, Aldean himself supports more Gun Laws. He’s not a Patriot.
it is going to be real interesting to see how these anti violence protesters act when anarchy is the norm.
Love Ted, this guy is always on point and calls the bullshit. Keep going strong Ted, you’re a true patriot!!!
Right on.
I love the song go USA America has a right to defend itself.
boy people really hate the truth….truth bad……
