Desert Eagle

There are a lot of handguns that can be called “iconic”, but that word seldom applies more accurately than when used to refer to the Desert Eagle by Magnum Research.

Magnum Research is rolling out a new cartridge for their Desert Eagle series of heavy-hitting handguns called 429 DE, based on 50 AE.

Whiskey Tango Firearms, LLC is paying homage to Marvel Comic’s Deadpool once again.  But instead of opting for another everyday carry platform like Colt New Agent 1911, WTF chose to makeover a Deagle aka Desert Eagle in .50 AE.

Why would you spend your hard earned money on a Kahr Arms Desert Eagle in .50 AE or .44 Magnum? Mostly because they’re fun as hell to shoot. This week in honor of Veteran’s Day coming up, we had the opportunity to shed light on a worthy cause and spend some time on the range with two Magnum Research Desert Eagles.

The Desert Eagle is a unique and iconic firearm. Though the Deagle, as most die-hard fans refer to the gun, has long been associated with the nation of Israel, naturally a gun this manly was originally born in America. The US patent application for this gas-operated pistol was approved in January of 1983 under the auspices of Magnum Research Inc. The gun earned a second patent in December of 1985. After Israel Military Industries refined the design the gun went into volume production.

So, what are the practical purposes of a Desert Eagle .50 Action Express? Well, the only one I can think of is for hunters/fishermen in Grizzly territory, that don’t like revolvers. Which is a pretty limited segment of the population. I am happy to report that this opinion changed after I took this bad Johnson to the range.

In a year marked by some sad excuses for new product launches, Kahr is pushing forward. They’ve released upgraded pistols, and added to the Desert Eagle line. Magnum Research, Kahr, and Auto Ordnance all had new launches this year, and some of these guns are just plain bad-ass.
