A Swiss Piston Gun Under $4k? — SHOT Show 2025

in SHOT Show 2025

When the German Special Forces wanted a rifle, they requested a mix of AR-15, MP5, and B&T’s own APC, and B&T created the Special Police Carbine (SPC) to meet the bill. A happy result is that the SPC comes in about $1,000 less costly than the APC rifles.

Let’s see how B&T’s SPC rifle and Print-X Suppressor differ from other black guns.

The new SPC brings Swiss precision and a piston gas system.

Piston-Driven, Suppressor-Ready

Rather than a direct-impingement gas system like AR-15s, the SPC uses a piston to drive the action and cycle the bolt. The piston is pre-tuned and optimized for use with suppressors.

This system stays cleaner than direct-impingement systems and should be more reliable in the long run.

The SPC rifle is tuned to function normally even with higher backpressure from a suppressor, and it also manages the gas better for the user. AR-15s are notorious for pushing exhaust back into the shooter’s face when using a suppressor.

The SPC rifle pushes gasses from the ejection port forward so they don’t blow straight into the user. Check out these other B&T write-ups.

Unlike and MP5, the SPC has a rear charging handle.

Furthermore, the SPC’s included flash hider is B&T’s Rotex Surefire hub. It functions effectively as a flash hider and a quick-connect adapter for the Print-X suppressors. The SPC is truly suppressor-ready.

Man, that name is a mouth full, but its description is simple: It’s an effective and lightweight suppressor. It’s also full-auto-rated on carbines with at least 11.5″ barrels.

The standout feature is that its baffle is made with 3D-printed Inconel while its sheath is titanium. The combination results in durability and reduced weight. It’s just 5 inches long, 1.7 inches in diameter, and 8.5 ounces.
