Overview

Full disclosure, I have never liked SIG handguns. Not a one. And I have had to teach military contracts with units that used the P226, so it’s not from lack of trying.

That might not make me popular with the members of the Cult of SIG, but it’s the truth. I have never been shy about my opinion on handguns. All that made what happened with the P320 even more amazing.

The X-Carry.

Dreading my upcoming interview about the X-Five, and wondering if I could keep a straight face, we trudged into the SIG booth. Phil Strader handed me the P320 so I could check it out while the camera guys set up, and an amazing thing happened. I didn’t hate it. At all.

It has the best out of the box trigger I have ever seen in a striker gun. It makes expensive add-on triggers for other plastic guns feel stupid by comparison.

The gun comes with Dawson Precision sights on it, no need for an upgrade. There is a novel concept, ship your gun with sights from the best guy in the business.

It has a mag well and a grip weight in it from the factory and both are removable. And it ships with four 21-round magazines. Absolutely amazing!

Note those bright sights!

SIG has shown what happens when you not only hire a National Champion shooter to help design a gun, but you listen to him. Well played Mr. Strader.

This was one of the three most exciting guns I saw at SHOT Show, and I can’t wait to get my hands on one. If it shoots as well as it felt in dry fire, they won’t be getting it back.

Now excuse me, I have some crow I have to go and eat.

Sig hasn’t even posted any details of the P320 X-Series line on their website yet. Weird considering all the widespread media coverage at Shot Show, plus Signs supposed March launch. (Wouldn’t hold my breath that it’s releasing next month.) I have a 320 compact 9mm and it’s one of the most accurate pistols I’ve ever shot. Excited for this lineup.

Full disclosure ….I’m getting real tired of the herd of gun “experts” proclaiming what they don’t like. It seems that a new expert crawls out of the woodwork everyday. One says one thing only to be contradicted by the next one. My father, a very intelligent man, told me when I was young.. “read everything, listen to others opinions but remember that just because you wrote a book doesn’t mean you know what you’re talking about”

Anyway I love the 320s …I have two, a compact and sub-compact in 9mm. I have shot the RX and want to pick up a X5 this summer. I made these choices based on my own experiences not that of another “expert”.

Great review on the new P320 X-FIVE! It sounds like Sig is on a roll with the 320 series.

I own a small collection of Sig pistols including all of the P-series except the P229. I have two P320’s, a Carry in .357 Sig and a full size RX in 9mm. Frankly, the P320’s outshoot all the other Sig’s!

I’m surprised at myself for even saying that. I’ve tried other striker fired pistols, including Glock and Springfield, and just didn’t care for them. When I got my first P320, the Carry .357 Sig, I immediately noticed the superb trigger. Taking it to the range, I shot a variety of ammo, from 100 to 147 grains, without a single malfunction. 1,200 rounds later, still no failures.

And at distances from 25 to 50 meters, I shot some really small (for me) groups. Only my Sig C3 .45acp approaches that level of accuracy.

With news of the new P320 X-FIVE, I guess it’s time to start saving my dimes and nickles again and talk my wife into letting me get another pistol…

Clay, do you know if they plan on making this gun in a 40 Cal? I’m curious as I do supply some of the Sheriff’s in my area of MO, and they are moving away from the Glocks slowly, and searching, but have a 40 Cal min requirement for the Carry Weapon. I have already talked to someone at SIG (they have been very quiet about details on this line) but had said it was designed with the help of a pro shooter so I’m excited to order one for myself to show them how well it handles.

Clay, thanks again for taking time to review firearms! First, I and we are not being critical here….I have a P226 SAO Legion, were you able to shoot that model? Curious how it compares to the P320x? Trigger, grip, and more? We have several firearms in 9mm from Glocks to HK to Kimbers. My wife really likes the HK VP9, as she can customize the grip, and shoots it better than our other brands. (whatever it takes for fit and feet of the firearm)….now, I can acquire the sights, and shoot faster, with more accuracy on the Legion P226 SAO, and the trigger is amazing. I like the undercut, and it really fits my hand. I read the Gunsamerica article about that firearm as it was called the “holy grail.” For me, I would call it the same! Any more comments about the P320x? Thanks again, and hope to have you do some training for us in southern Idaho.

Was trying to listen to the information about the gun = BUT it took him over 2 MINUTES to show it as clear and empty,WTF ?.
Might actually check one out,as I too have never been a fan of Sig.

P228 owner for 15 years or more. Could not bear to give it up, but this P320x makes it very tempting. Have held and dry fired the P320 (without the X) and found it to be tempting as well. The X may be just the push I need.
