Savage Arms is happy to announce the new Minimalist series, a line of rimfire rifles based on their Mark II and 93 Series bolt actions, chambered for 22 Long Rifle, .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire and .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire.
Savage is launching with six Minimalist options featuring natural brown or patterned green laminate lightweight stocks, carbon steel actions and barrels with a matte black finish. Included in the package are scope mounts and Savage’s adjustable AccuTrigger. AccuTriggers can be set anywhere between 2.5 and 6 pounds.
That’s two models chambered for .22 LR, two in .22 Mag. and two in .17 HMR, one brown and one green each. All Minimalist rifles come with 18-inch threaded, button-rifled barrels with a sporter profile, one 10-round magazine, drilled and tapped receivers and the two-piece Weaver-style scope bases.
“Minimalist combines the perfect balance of lightweight ergonomics and reliable performance,” said Beth Shimanski, Director of Marketing for Savage. “At just 5.68 pounds, they’re perfect for backyard plinking or hunting on the move. You can carry one all day and hardly feel it.”
While many of the included features are common to other Savage rifles, the stocks really set the Minimalist series apart. They’re semi-pistol grip stocks with a lot of relieving cuts under the raised cheekpieces and along the mid-length forends. They have light, slender buttpadds, and checkering along the pistol grips and the fingergrooves up front.
It’s apparent that the laminate stock design helps contribute to the overall light weight of the guns in the Minimalist series. And while they do look different, they serve their purpose and provide two sling swivel attachment points at the toe of the stock and just behind the front cap.
The Minimalist series is ideal for anyone looking for a rifle to carry all day and for long distances as well as for experienced youths who are interested in a serious rimfire package.

One of the best selling points of the Minimalist series is the price point. All six Minimalist rifles carry a suggested retail price of just $359. With lower prices online and in stores, it should be possible to pick up a Minimalist and a decent rimfire optic for under $500 with some cash to spare for ammo, slings or any other accessories.
The rimfire rifle market is extremely competitive with prices and performance anywhere from adequate to excellent, but Savage has long been able to deliver well in terms of both qualities and the Minimalist series carries that on.
Based on proven actions with plenty of smart features at very approachable pricing, the Minimalist lineup is in a position to be at the top of the list of everyone’s practical and solid bolt-action rimfire rifles.
