In a gripping standoff Tuesday night, deputies arrested Benjamin Mercer Jr., who found himself barricaded inside an apartment on Pineland Avenue, reports WBTW.

This isn’t Mercer Jr.’s first tangle with the law this month, as he’s been a busy man.

Back on May 12, Benjamin Jr., alongside his father Benjamin Mercer Sr., allegedly made off with over 150 guns from the Palmetto State Armory in Florence County.

While Junior was nabbed and subsequently released on bond by May 28, his father remains at large, adding a dash of mystery to the saga.

A sting operation was set up, but Mercer Jr. decided to spice things up by attempting to rob an informant.

This escalated to a full-blown chase, ending with Mercer Jr. hunkering down in his apartment fortress. A chemical irritant was used to force Mercer Jr. to surrender.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is still connecting the dots in this high-stakes gun drama, as Mercer Jr. contemplates his choices behind bars—again.

Meanwhile, the search for Mercer Sr. continues, keeping local law enforcement on their toes. Stay tuned for updates.
