While cleaning his firearm Tuesday afternoon, former baseball standout Jose Canseco accidentally shot himself, reports local media.
He was rushed from his home in Las Vegas to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where he underwent surgery to save a finger on his left hand that was nearly blown off.
Canseco’s fiancee tweeted this message to his fans and followers.
This is Leila . Thank you all for the kind words and prayers . Jose is in still surgery and will be ok. Please pray for his finger !!
While negligent discharges are becoming less frequent, they still happen. Remember to be careful. And always be mindful of the four rules of gun safety:
- All guns are always loaded.
- Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
- Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
He seemed to have shot his brain off.
why reply you do not print it.Better yet ake my name off this web site.Ken Sawyer
He wasn’t cleaning it!
What a bunch of bullshit.
He was screwing around and being unsafe, and just learned a hard lesson.
Nobody is that stupid to clean a gun with a round chambered.
He’s just too embarrassed to admit what really happened.
I have some middle finger jokes I’m refraining to list.
no excuse for cleaning a loaded weapon. what is this guy’s brain doing? being absent from class?
He really is no dumber than the person responsible for this website.
Dumb-ass. How many people does this now make that were shot while cleaning an “unloaded” firearm? Just because one has a right to keep and bear arms doesn’t mean that everyone should. Just ask Jose’s finger.
I know what the intent is but….
Shouldn’t #2 read “Never cover the muzzle with anything you are not willing to destroy” or “Don’t point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy”
Bottom line all firearms should be treated with knowledge and respect.
