Cobalt Kinetics is launching a lower receiver only version of their Model 27 rifle. This lower, designed for shooters looking for a traditional format, happens to be “featureless” for restricted markets.
Many jurisdictions place restrictions on rifle ownership. So-called featureless rifles use AR-15 parts and uppers with lowers that comply with local laws. Many of them make compliance with unusual and sometimes clumsy grips and stocks.
The Model 27 lower does not have a standard pistol grip or any of the other scary features. This lower is legal in all 50 states, at least, with the right upper. Cobalt calls it the Forged Upper Conversion Kit.

Unlike other featureless receivers the Model 27 lower uses essentially standard AR-15 parts. It’s compatible with regular uppers and the bulk of lower receiver components.
“This strategic pivot in product offering manages to connect the universal legality and utility of the 27 to the masses of AR-15 owners living under the shadow of anti-gun legislation,” said Cobalt. “It’s called the Forged Upper Conversion Kit, and it presents as an empty lower half — complete with grip and stock and receiver extension and cheek rest — that has been redesigned to mate seamlessly with most all off-the-shelf AR-patterned upper receivers.”

“It can be configured to be legal in all 50 states,” said Stewart. “The only non-standard parts this platform uses are included in the kit.”
Of course you don’t have to live with restrictive gun laws to appreciate the lower receiver. It’s a good-looking piece of kit that could be the start of a really fun build.

Cobalt is selling the Forged Upper Conversion Kit as a stripped lower. It includes the hardware for the stock components, buffer tube, bolt catch screw, trigger guard and selector and takedown detent springs. Everything else including the trigger is up to the builder.
For now Cobalt is listing these for $699. That’s a good price for a lower in this class, compliant or otherwise. Cobalt offers their lowers with black, stainless, Cobalt Kinetics green, flat dark earth, grey and gunmetal finishes.

Except for the fact that nobody can tell you for sure that a Thorsen is 100% legal in states like NY. The fuzzy logic answer is that the “modification” has to be “permanent”. Since Nobody in any OFFICIAL capacity in NY state is willing to write what exactly is permanent, and the Thorsen unit screws on, by default, it is not “permanent” . The thorsen unit is a test case waiting to happen in NY !
Here’s another piece, on these BULLSHIT STOCKS. Let’s have these weird angle grip things put on all firearms used by all major metropolitan entity that has to depend on the use weapons to save lives. Once it unconditionally passes through the break-in period, & gets glowing reviews, maybe then I’LL purchase one of those so-called stocks. IMO, ARES Defense who makes the Ares SCR, a more realistic & comfortable weapon, instead of this piece of Frankenstein stock.
It works fine. It feels like a hunting rifle grip angle. I’m not really put off by it. It’s not the most aesthetically pleasing thing to put on my otherwise tuned up AR, but its just fine. Ergonomics are not hard to get used to. If you can operate a shotgun with a traditional butt stock, you can work with this. all that said, I still prefer a pistol grip, but I’m not pinning my mag just to legally use my AR with a particular cosmetic look. When they completely outlaw ARs I will throw all that out the window & make it the way I want it with parts I already had from before the ban. The laws are already ridiculous & arbitrary forcing people to register a self defense weapon as an assault weapon. They can GTFO with that
What fucking cop out!!! Talk about giving in to the Communist ways of the anti-gunners. How in the hell is that thing suppose to properly fit the hand of the shooter? I for one have small hands, and that thing looks like the FUCKING MORON, took away the functioning pistol grip & replacing it with a non-functional cinderblock. In my opinion, I think that the company should push THIS PIECE OF SHIT, on ALL the government entities that want to force it on the general population. Have the police & the military be the first to implement these so called 50 state legal AR stocks.
Slow your roll and get a drool bib. It’s for sale, if you don’t want one, don’t buy one. The government entities that want to restrict civilian firearms (the legislature) don’t carry firearms so exactly how do you propose to force it on them?
I am reminded of Jeff Goldblum from the first Jurassic Park movie – life finds a way. ARs keep finding ways to get around common sense restrictions. Government will never be able to fully thwart the ingenuity of determined Americans, I suppose.

“common sense restrictions”? You don’t know the meaning of multiple words used there and have none of that common sense! What does a grip have to do with the operation of any firearm. Perfect example of the the ignorance rampant in this country. This worst part is that there is no hesitancy to demonstrate it!
Common Sense? You forgot that there is not a lot of common sense when it comes down to anti-gun restrictions. What you do have, instead, is the dismantling of our Right. This is infringement after infringement. This comes down to cosmetic changes and you will likely not change anything vital. It is just a point of contention, and jackasses from all over will “ooh” and “aah” over what they have done, but they really have not done much.
Common sense tells me we need firearms for protection if nothing else. Life is not always about hunting, but if you were in the woods, you would be smart to be armed, wouldn’t you? If you live in a bad neighborhood, because that’s where your culture leaves you, you would be smart to be armed, wouldn’t you? If somebody threatens you, you would prepare yourself for an onslaught by being armed, wouldn’t you?
The best gun to use in a bad situation is the gun you have. Keep It Simple, Stupid, or the KISS message is a matter of survival of the fittest, and the smartest. Any idea of making a gun less reliable or functional is a violation of the KISS law. Putting a safety on a revolver could be done, but it is obviously going to defeat the purpose of having a gun.
So, I urge you to be cautious when you say “Common Sense,” because I am disputing your knowledge of just what that entails.

Yuh, ohhh pretty colors, somewhat interesting for a long range shooter, my guess is it won’t fit an M16 trigger group and as far as Commiefornia goes; unless we can get EVERY libturd declared a threat to national security while Trump is still in control and ship every one of these scum off to FEMA ‘Correctional Camps’ for mass extermination, what’s the point, Commiefornia will grab this ‘compliant’ setup NO MATTER WHAT!
