Kydex holster companies pop up just about every week. An unregulated and flooded holster market can be very hard to navigate. It may seem inconsequential to some, but not to me. Carrying a gun is about self protection. Who do I trust? How long should it take to get your product? How much should you pay for molded plastic–and why? And what happens if this new gear doesn’t work out or breaks?

It is natural to want the best product you can afford for the lowest price. You want your holster sooner than possible and you want it built for the way you carry. There are established Kydex companies, but they often have long waiting times and premium prices. Your best bet may be to gamble on a newer, relatively untested holster maker. And that’s where we come in. We put them to the test before we write reviews like this for you to read.

Today we’re focusing on a promising new company: Black Rhino Concealment. BRC is a veteran owned and run holster manufacturer specializing in daily and duty carry. They have molds of over 80 handguns and produce both inside and outside the waist band holsters that are guaranteed for life.

Features

  • .08 thick Kydex
  • Available in 0 degree, 10 degree, and 15 degree cants
  • 17 Kydex colors
  • Built with a 90/10 mold for maximum concealment (which means 10% of the gun rides on the inside curve of the holster, and 90% on the outside curve.
  • All come with a Life Time Guarantee

The Black Rhino Line Up

TCS – Tactical Carrier System

The TCS is an inside the waistband/ outside the waistband holster built for heavy use. It is constructed out of .08 thick Kydex and formed to the exact contours of your gun. The end result is a highly durable holster that feels as solid as the weapon it holds.

Available in 17 standard Kydex colors as well as 0 – 15 degree cants. The holsters ship with all the hardware needed to convert it into an inside the waistband holster. The holsters also come with a free Trigger guard holster for use in your vehicle or other unconventional places.

The Tactical Carrier system retails for $69.99 and is a great option for the range or field.

The same holster can be built to accommodate lights and lasers. With molds for Crimson Trace, Inforce, Streamilight, Surefire and Viridian Black Rhino can accommodate your tactical needs. Keeping with the standard features found in all of Black Rhino’s holsters, the TCSL is a robust design and sells for $74.99.

TGH – Trigger Guard Holster

The TGH is a minimalist holster. Designed to cover just the trigger guard, this small piece of molded Kydex will keep your pistol safe with out encapsulating it in polymer. The TGH can be used inside the waistband by attaching its 550 paracord leash to your belt, or it can be used for more unconventional places like a bag, or car.

It’s a great option for those times when you just don’t know where to stick your gun, and comes free with any order of a TCS or CCS holster. It retails for $24.99 and is a great alternative way to carry your firearm.

CCS – Concealed Carry System

The CCS is a fold over, inside the waistband holster built with the rigidity and simplicity of the other Black Rhino products. Designed for both appendix and behind the hip carry, the CCS easily conceals larger guns. Even a gun the size of the VP9 can easily hide away under a slim t-shirt.

The CCS wears comfortably and holds the gun firmly to the body. The .08 thick Kydex helps the holster hold its shape when the gun is drawn and (less importantly) it makes holstering the pistol fairly easy.

It retails for $59.99 and is available for both concealed carry guns and duty guns.

The Double Mag Carrier

The Double Mag Carrier is a duty ready option for carrying your pistol magazines. It is built with the same 90/10-mold system as the TCS making it a great concealable option that fits snug to the body but still keeps the magazines accessible. It is built specifically for the magazines your weapon uses providing a snug fit.

Retailing for $39.99 it’s an inexpensive method of carrying ammunition and is an ideal piece of range gear for the high volume shooter.

At the end of this, I like what I see. Having all of them made for the VP9 allowed me to do much more exhaustive analysis of how the styles differ. The TCS and TCSL are very similar, and very versatile. I like having the option to carry them inside or outside the waistband. The CCS is more traditional. The biggest difference, at least in the design of the TCS, is the way the back of the shell if flatter, and the front is wrapped around three tides. While it seems trivial, it leaves less air behind the sides of the holster. It snugs the whole shell closer to the body, leaving less bulk to conceal.

If you need a new holster, check them out. And do it now, before they get too big.

I have had a variety of holsters for my glocks most I have found very uncomfortable. I heard about BRC and decided to try them first let me start by saying that they offer great customer service and a great quality holster. Today I returned and they made me one for my glock 36 while I waited the fit and comfort is perfect there is no doubt that I will remain a customer there is no need to try anymore from competitors I recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a great holster. You get what you pay for and what I received was a high quality holster. Far superior in quality and comfort compared to their competitors.

Not to mention that’s it’s a veteran owned and operated company thanks guys for your continued service to others and myself

Does anyone use spell check or proofread this magazine?

    • Gary May 21, 2015, 2:27 pm

Noone cares about the spelling or grammer. We are reading gun articles, not literary works of shakespeare.

    • Army127 June 17, 2015, 1:32 am

And this isn’t a magazine! It’s an online forum and blog! Anyway this isn’t English 101 and no one cares either. We are reading this article to learn about holsters for guns not how to spell properly! Now enjoy the pictures and stop worrying about the damn spelling and grammar.

I love these guys that defend bad grammar because they’re bad at it. It always pays to sound intelligent instead of like some illiterate hick. It does well for your credibility.

But that’s fine, keep sounding like a dope.

      Whaat’s spel check. ?

  • Lt. Donn May 20, 2015, 9:04 am

I have to agree…overpriced in this market…there are a slew of competitors currently making products every bit as robust and effective as this company for significantly less $…it is difficult for a company with overhead & payroll costs to compete with a college student making holsters in his Dad’s garage and selling them at the LGS or Gun Shows or even E-bay, but many great holsters can be purchased from such vendors…good luck to Black Rhino…looks like a very good product in an over-saturated market

  • Sms May 18, 2015, 9:04 am

Looks like an overpriced, holster anybody could do with a sander, toaster oven, and a river punch, and some practice

    • JA May 18, 2015, 8:56 pm

I guess that depends on your skill and how much your time is worth. To me, the price is more than fair.
