What is the biggest existential threat to our society? Nuclear proliferation? Islamic extremism? Heck, global warming?
Nope, guess again.
The correct answer is children with pretend guns. Yup, these pint-sized rapscallions with their make-believe weapons are destroying civilization and everything we hold dear.
An overreaction? I don’t think so. Not if you consider how schools respond to these little cretins.
For example, five-year-old Caitlin Miller was suspended from her Raeford, N.C., school this for holding a stick that faintly resembled a gun.
Caitlin and her friends were playing “king and queen” on the playground and she was charged with protecting the monarchs.
“I was the guard,” Caitlin told WTVD.
Well, to keep the king and queen safe, she grabbed a stick, pretended it was a gun, and used it to thwart off imaginary intruders. A huge no, no on school grounds.
Once school staff learned what she was doing, she was immediately taken off the playground and brought before the principal for punishment.
“One minute she’s playing with her friends and the next her teachers are dragging her to the principal’s office,” her mother, Brandy Miller, told WTVD. “She’s confused. Nobody explained anything to her.”
In a statement, the Hoke County School district said it “will not tolerate assaults, threats or harassment from any student.”
“Any student engaging in such behavior will be removed from the classroom or school environment for as long as is necessary to provide a safe and orderly environment for learning,” the statement continued.
But was she really threatening or assaulting or harassing any other students? Wasn’t she just playing with her friends?
When Brandy told her daughter, “you can’t say you’re going to shoot and kill people.” Little Caitlin looked confused and replied, “I never said that?” according to her mother’s post on Facebook.
In other words, Caitlin is confused as heck about the whole situation. How does one get suspended for playing on a playground?
“She feels like all the teachers hate her,” Miller wrote on Facebook. “I can’t imagine being 5 and feeling that way.”
“Don’t they still make Nerf guns and water guns that kids shoot each other with?” Miller wrote on Facebook. “Don’t kids still play paintball and laser tag? I can see a suspension for an older kid who knows better and who is actually threatening other kids.”
All I can say is that I’m glad those heroic teachers and principals acted in the manner that they did. That little Caitlin and her stick gun are all that is wrong with America. Were she not stopped, only God knows how many pretend bad guys she would’ve kept out of that make-believe kingdom to save the imaginary king and queen. 😉
#PretendLivesMatter
If people trying break in for food because store have empty shelves no food what happen ???? I have an ak47 for self defense and my food in my house ! To keep hungry people away from my place !!
Year 1950 riding to school on our bikes shot guns tied to the handle bars. to go rabbit hunting after school. But we didn’t have violent video games and Hollywood movies to keep us amused, and twist our minds.
It seems common sense isn’t as common as it once was.
The problem is that the stick was sawed off. Its all in the hands of the ATF now.
Fools can’t tell the difference between a gun and a magic wand
At what point was common sense removed from the public school system? Only in an American public school could a little girl get suspended for drawing the picture of a stick gun. Everyone associated with that school from the superintendent to the little girl’s teacher should be ashamed.
Everyone of them that was involved in this incident and didn’t speak out about the school’s people’s actions should be fired. Let them be ashamed at the unemployment office.
They should all be fired and a law suit filed against the school, our o bama has made our county a pansy country
Pansy land. Everyone seeking thier safe, space. Better send in a grief counselor. Some snowflake may be,offended by a,picture,of,a evil, gun. Get a grip, people. Do,you, really think being some pussy punk is the modern man? I don’t.
Not ashamed but fired for stupidity. If all these anti-gun people did something worth while, like prosecute real criminals and the courts that release them back on society(early out, drug dealers turned loose by president and certain state governors.)Kids played cowboys & Indians–cops & robbers for a long time.If these kids followed the way the anti-gun people think the world population would be a lot less than it is now. With all the guns that were around in the old west and the thinking(?) of the anti-gunners there shouldn’t be any one left.
It’s not lack of common sense. It is brainwashing. Teach the next generations to be deathly afraid of anything similar to a gun, and to understand that only those in authority can have guns.
This NA , is obviously getting their kicks by posting and getting our feedback, I think this person is an attention whore who is lonely and needs your comments to fill the void , this person is a wast of time
If you think that, why read them?
And yet, your here reading and leaving a comment…
Thanks to the Lib-tards that have infested and taken over our public schools, just pointing your finger and saying bang will get you expelled.
Funny and stupid , because the Muslims are teaching their little boys to take apart and clean an AK47 rifle, and hit targets out to 100 yards, in their mountain retreats here in the US……..
Get rid of scrools of “education,” which take in dumb teacher prospects and make normal candidates stupid and dull.
Remember when it used to be only Britain that was in charge of such whiny nonsense?
It would have made much more sense to have taken the gun facsimile from the 5 year old and said “we do not allow toy guns on school property” WITHOUT further punishment. The action taken was definitely an overreaction. The school toy gun rule must be the result of sniveling moron liberal Dems and school personnel that have very little common sense. We are very fortunate to have the Second Amendment, otherwise, the sniveling moron liberal Dems under Bill Clinton and OBAMA would have tried to severely diminish guns from the general public due to asinine laws and rules intended to not legally impinge the Second Amendment. This would have been done in a step by step process to try to justify the irritation to the American people. If deranged Hillary had been elected, there is no doubt she would have teamed up with Pelosi, Feinstein, Schuman, Soros, and Bloomberg, and others to do everything possible to minimize ownership of guns and ammunition.
This country would be another Australia or Canada. In Canada there was a farmer shot and killed 1 of 2 men that were trying to burn his house down with bottles of gas ,they had set his porch and dog house(dog was in it) he shot one, the other one got away called police, farmer arrested and put in prison. That’s what having anti-gunners running your country gets you. CRIMINALS WILL GET MORE RIGHTS THEN YOU.
THIS WHOLE THING IS STUPID ,EVERY ONE KNOWS WHERE WE WOULD BE IF NO ONE COULD PROTECT THEMSELVES , WHAT SHOULD THE USE , A FORK OR A ROPE OR A HAMMER OR SOME OTHER HOUSEHOLD ITEM .. WE KNOW THE WORLD NEEDS A SPOKESMAN BUT A RATIONAL PERSON .
I CARRIED GUNS ALL MY LIFE , PROTECTING YOU MY FELLOW CITIZENS 37 YEARS . I HAVE STOPPED WATCHING NEWS BECAUSE IT IS ALL WORPED AND SOME LIES . , I AM BACK TO NO NEWS AND ALL THE INEPT MORONS MAKING THEIR ASSUMTIONS AND TRYING TO MAKE US JOIN THEIR RANKS ! GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR PEOPLE WE ARE GOING TO NEED HIM !
Get a lawyer mama and sue the district. Liberals don’t listen to anything concerning civil liberties, so hit them wear liberals hurt the most–in the wallet.
I’m happy to remember my childhood, during which we had no such thing as “play-dates”, and no adult with any intelligence would have lowered him/her-self to interfere with the inner politics of our children’s games, or the petty dialogues between children. Nor did the adults of the day consider anything to be violent until the violence actually occurred, blood was shed, and something either sprained or broken. As far as I can see, the last two generations have been raised entirely in bubble wrap, and will develop no toughness, no decision-making skills, nor any ability to cope with life’s many hard knocks. And today’s supervisory adults are simply the over-sized versions of my childhood’s “tattle-tales”, controlling, neurotic, whom NOBODY liked, and no one respected.
I have no intention of moderating this comment. It’s much milder, in fact, than many others you have posted.
Well James all I can say is touché well stated and I agree with you 100 percent!
If the “educators” involved in this sorry episode had been actually paying attention to these kids, they would have been able to see that there was no threat made to anyone and that the children were playing a game. This nonsense has to be ripped out by the roots and the ninnies who are making things like this happen should be made to understand that their over the top hyper reactions are causing emotional trauma to the kids. They were happy playing an innocent game like five year olds naturally tend to do, and which is a healthy part of their development into well adjusted individuals with a sense of right and wrong, as well as respect for authority and the ability to reason and understand what is OK and what is stepping out of bounds, then in comes this moron liberal freakshow and they emotionally body slam this little girl to the ground and put her in a kangaroo court where the “judge” does not allow any kind of defense, but instead grinds her face into the pavement under the heavy heel of her hobnail soled jack boots.
They misuse their authority and abuse the student for a perfectly innocent play activity on the school’s playground, and I will bet you that they didn’t see her pick up the stick, or hear the others playing the game, they just rushed to judgment in error and committed an act of emotional violence on this little 5 year old girl who had no intent to or actually harmed anyone.
This tells me all that supposed superior higher education these teachers and pricipals tout with their Masters and Doctorate degrees are so riddled with politics that they are virtually useless when it comes to teaching children common sense and reasoning to solve life’s problems. This goose-stepping fascism in the public schools needs to be ended. The people of the town should have a say in how their children are being educated, and I will say without fear of contradiction that no one in their right mind would ever agree to the way this situation was handled, and the sad part is this is not unique or rare today. The teachers pay half attention during recess, and when they tear themselves away from their conversation, cell phone, whatever they jump on little kids like this girl and emotionally abuse them in a situation where they have no advocate or power. Where have we seen this before?
In my opinion all of the grown ups in this matter should be disciplined for what they did to this little girl, and it needs to be substantial punishment in a very public manner so others like them have their attitude readjusted and they have no doubt that this is no way to handle any child – especially when no one was harmed, harassed or bullied – except by the faculty of the school.
I hope the little girl’s family brings suit against the school district and all the individuals involved. She deserves justice.
Two Words: liberal Democrats !
Thank God she didn’t use a finger gun. They would probably have chopped off her hand! When I hear crap like this it makes me think that isis is schooling our kids just to make them sissies so they will not want fight to defend themselves.
The only problem with the ISIS comparison is that their madrassas are teaching assassination, execution, and suicide bombing techniques, while the leftists immasculate our male children and teach the virtues of being helpless victims.
I sincerely believe NA is an honest and non-hypocritical person who practices what he/she preaches.
By that I mean, he/she surely must have a sign in front of his/her home, boldly proclaiming “We are dedicated to non-violence. We do not believe in defending ourselves or our property. We have no guns in this home.”
Failing to post that, NA is just another hypocrite. Failing to post that, NA realizes that the mere possibility there MIGHT be a gun in the home for defense is what keeps his/her home from being singled out as a target for criminals. In other words, posing as a 2nd Amendment hater while relying on the criminal fear of the 2nd Amendment Freedom of the homeowner to provide protection.
DONT BE A HYPOCRITE, NA! Post that sign TODAY!
Absolutely insane to do this to that little girl. Nice way to traumatize her you idiot!
Only possible conclusion that can be drawn from this:
LIBERALS ARE IDIOTS!!
They are much worse than that, they are pernicious, cruel, vile, reprehensible idiots with power over little children.
People need to attend PTA meetings across the country and inform these educated dimwits that this is never ever going to be an acceptable situation, and that it will not be tolerated. Tell the school system their employment is conditional on the approval of the people they serve. This imperious attitude these creeps have and the power they wield should never be used to emotionally abuse the children we trust them to educate.
These people have been getting away with this CR*P for decades, and it is long past the time they need a wake up call. The teacher’s union needs to be outlawed – this is how they cover their posterior and become entrenched and un-fireable. That needs to end. Urge the town leaders to defend the children from any further abuse. If they will not, then get candidates for the school board and supervisor that will make this a primary focal point. The only way we can stop this from happening is to strip the power from the union that protects these bad teachers, and keeps them working with our kids.
My daughter had a 4th grade teacher that would scream at kids when they failed to do things to her liking, and she played no favorites; every kid in her class got this treatment. My daughter was not wanting to go to school and kept complaining her stomach hurt and after a trip to the doctor who found nothing wrong with her, we determined it was time to look at the school to see what was happening. I told her to take her Fisher Price tape recorder to school, and set it to record inside her back pack when she got to the school. Predictably, the teacher flew into a rage within a few minutes of the class bell. That little cassette recorder got nearly 30 minutes of her on tape. That evening I listened to it and knew what had to happen next morning – I stood in front of the principal and played that tape and her eyes widened. She seemed alarmed and told me that she had no idea that was happening. I told her it had been happening since the beginning of the school year, and this was well into November. After about 5 minutes I stopped the tape and told her it went on for 24 minutes, and my daughter told me that it was the routine.
That teacher was removed and put on administrative leave of absence for the remainder of the year. My daughter started to enjoy going to school again very shortly after her departure. My point is this – we need to keep an eye on what is happening in our schools, and that eye needs to be sharply focused on the faculty – and they need to know without a doubt they work for us and abuse will not be tolerated under any circumstance.
Every time I read something like this I am reminded of an old saying: “Educated idiots.”
I’m serious surprised there isn’t a civil law attorney seeing $$$$$$ in their eyes. Obvious a mental distress and anguish case against a well funded school district… After all poor kid will probably require years of psychiatric therapy to get over the trauma which occurred by the over reaction of the misguided teachers who were not properly trained in the use of the schools policies and procedures at hand…..
But seriously…. Sue the school district, get enough money to put your kid thru private school lady…
“Zero tolerance” = “zero sense”. Just let kids be kids, for cryin’ out loud! When I was a kid, we played “cops and robbers” and “cowboys and “Indians” (though the latter would be whined about as “politically incorrect” in this wimped-out overly sensitive era), as well as “soldiers” during school recess. If a kid is actually making a VIABLE threat against another student or staff, that’s one thing, but let kids play and use their imaginations! It’s absolutely sickening how thin-skinned and whiny our society has become on a whole. Liberal progressivism and political correctness is slowly turning our once-great country from “The Land of the Free and Home of the Brave” into the “Land of the Sheep and Home of the Slaves”.
Delete “slowly”.
NA, I regret to inform you that your fear of people with guns is far more irrational, statistically speaking, than a fear of crime and harm to your family and friends. A vast majority of gun owners have never shot or harmed anybody and most never will. Gun violence is not a dormant disease hiding in legal gun owners just waiting to strike. Gun ownership does not coincidence with violence. Rather, it is the defense against those criminals who obtain their guns often illegally and are the perpetrators of violent crimes. NA, your perpetual whining about scary gun owners is very reminiscent of a child whining about a monster under its bed. Statistics show that you are the person here with the irrational fear. I do, however, fear for your family (if you have one) because I know that you are what is protecting them. Regards, Another Sensible Gun Owner
Very well said Gabe!
I hear other gun owners talk about the right to keep and bear arms, like guns are their toys or collectibles that someone wants to take away from them. They pretend that guns have some other valid purpose beyond being deadly weapons. They pretend that their wanting to keep deadly weapons around them is perfectly normal. It is not normal.
There’s something wrong with people who love guns.
I’m sorry, but in my opinion there is absolutely nothing wrong with people that love guns and that know how to handle these things. You don’t have to follow the same likings but saying that something is wrong with gun owners, while you therefore seem to say that everything seems to be right with you is just completely under the line.
I admit to you first that I am German and not living in the US, so I am not a gun owner myself but here are some things I would like to tell you:
The 1st reason why people keep and love guns is self-defense. The biggest and simple reason why people keep firearms. If someone suddenly attacks you or breaks into your home, do you just want to call the police and wait (the average response time is about 11 minutes from what I’ve heard) or do you want to have something to defend yourself before everything is too late? And I tell you, the average response time of the US police is still very fast according to Germany and other countries where there are no police officers around at all. But if you want to keep a gun for self-defense you need to know how to handle this thing. Ergo, you need to know what kind of ammunition you need, how you reload, how you take the gun apart and put it back together when you have to fix something broken etc. Therefore, it is a kind of science too, which you have to put time into. And the more time you put into it, the more you might start to love it, not to mention that you have to train with your gun on various ranges, to get a feeling of the deadly force of the gun and especially how you properly shoot it and raise your accuracy via training because if you are not used to these things, your gun won’t help you much against a criminal. Defending yourself, your family and whoever else you want to defend doesn’t mean that something is wrong with you.
The 2nd reason is sports. Yes, shooting sports on gun ranges. It is a competition to some people. There is nothing wrong with that too. Also, here you need to know how to handle your gun, raise your accuracy via years of training etc. And by the way, it is even an Olympic competition today.
The 3rd reason is hunting. For this you need a hunting permit, so it’s not just that you grab your gun and go out shooting bucks, ducks or whatever. I personally couldn’t shoot an animal, at least not in the real world. Sometimes I play the Deer Hunter series on my computer and I think I get the idea why some people love it. Yet, there is nothing wrong with these people either. Hunting is as old as mankind itself and for hunting you need a good rifle and again you need to know how does it shoot, train your accuracy on the range etc. Otherwise you won’t score any animal.
The only guys where you can say that something is wrong with them are the criminals and terrorists that misuse the guns for evil doings. Remember, it is the guy that is holding the gun, not the gun itself, that causes the problem. But having no guns at all is just to tell the world that they shall invade your house, rape your wife and daughter etc. I think you get the idea.
In Germany, many people believe that if you are playing violent video games something is wrong with you too. And let me now tell you, I play and played them all via my whole lifetime. Doom, Unreal Tournament 2004, Postal 2, Shadow Warrior… you name it. Yet, I am not a homicidal freak sitting in front of my computer all day, dreaming of doing some bloody real-life carnage in the future but I do my 40-hour work week as well, being nice to my colleagues and everyone else, living a complete normal life and just follow one of my hobbies, when I have the time for it. What’s wrong with that? Same goes for gun owners. We’re not going against the law when doing this. I’m sure you also got some kind of a hobby where someone else would think that something is wrong with you. Would you like them to tell this to you? I personally don’t think so. This goes for everything in the world. Hell, I also cannot understand how someone can spent so much money on overpriced Warhammer figures and all the overpriced tools you need for that (brushes, colors etc.), yet some people do and that’s okay. There is nothing wrong with us, as long as nobody of us breaks the law and threatens others.
Guns are deadly weapons.
People who love guns are people who love deadly weapons.
I don’t want to be around people love deadly weapons.
Sure, guns are deadly but so are plenty of other things. You know what, if someone likes his car and tunes it and keeps working on it in his garage because he just loves it and he enjoys his free time this way, you know what he COULD do with that car? Yes, run over people and kill them, instead of just driving around. So, you better stay away from people that own cars too. You see, your statement doesn’t make any sense in the long way.
By the way, if you dislike guns that much and want to stay away from the people that love to exercise their 2nd amendment rights (the founders had a reason why they gave this right to the people, think about that for a second), then may I ask what are you exactly doing on Gunsamerica? Don’t believe that you will change anyone here because this is a platform for gun owners and people like me that are interested into that.
Maybe we should talk again after the first time you have been assaulted by a criminal or something like that. I don’t want you to experience it though but if you would experience it then I bet you will wish for having a gun to defend yourself and/or your family.
Christian,
People like NA here are died in the wool fools who think only their selfish desires matter and everyone else must bend to their will. Everything you’ve said is absolutely correct, and if you ever want to become an American citizen I’m certain you know more about this subject than the fools that NA associates with. NA is a troll and that is why he is commenting here. He – or she – is a village idiot somewhere, and we have them in droves here.
Good people like you are always welcome.
I can only hope that someone breaks into your home and you will change your mind. Your going to find that your safety zone is now gone for ever. Its funny how people think they are untouchable, guess again..
No, you shouldn’t hope for that no matter what the individual thinks. But should it happen, the irony of it will be the first call he makes will be to the cops who carry deadly weapons.
NA,
You stated you don’t want to be around people who love guns yet you troll gun websites. Have seen your comments on several articles now, always the same short jabbing comments implying people who own guns are sick or mentally deranged somehow.
Here’s is a tip for you, if you don’t like the topic then get off the website, if you don’t like the program change the channel.
I would say that someone who professes to hate something but continues to associate themselves with it has some sort of closet fantasy going on.
NA you would be the first person to jump behind a law abiding person with a legal gun yelling SAVE ME when a criminal starts shooting up a public place. But i guess there has to be sheep for us sheepdog to protect. I will still defend you. You can hide behind me.
NA…then you better not get close to any cops or military…or any of their family.
You are going to alienate yourself from a large portion of the population…just sayin’…
NA, you said”I don’t want to be around people love deadly weapons.”. So, what are you doing reading about deadly weapons if they scare you so much? That makes you either a masochist, a hypocrite, or an idiot.
Perhaps you should move away from the United States of America and go live somewhere like Australia or Europe where you have no hope of ever owning a gun. We have a tradition of private firearms ownership in this country and people like you do not get to change the world to conform to your whims.
THEN YOU SHOULD MOVE TO ENGLAND OR AUSTRALIA WHERE HAVE NO WAY TO DEFEND THEMSELVES BECAUSE ALL GUNS ARE BANNED NOT EVEN POLICE HAVE THEM. IN THE U.S.A. IT IS A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO OWN GUNS.
It’s people like you that is making this country a sissy nation. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. I’ve owned guns and been around guns all of my life and was raised up shooting in the back yard. Never shot anyone that wasn’t a threat to my family. We don’t need gun control, we need gun education. I’ve been shooting since I was four years old and never had one mishap with a gun. So grow a pair, ask the wifey for your man card back and and shut your mouth till you do.
I have lots of guns that have fired many rounds having never killed anything. My guns *can* be deadly weapons, but so far they are not.. just like my truck, hammer and shovel
Not even all guns are designed to be weapons, many are pure target rifles/pistols ill suited for any sort of combat.
And too bad about not wanting to be around gun people… we are everywhere, carrying concealed all around you. 🙂
Screw you idiot troll. I keep a weapon with me as I defended this country and your ever loving idiot Obama allowed my name and address to get out to people that wanted to do me and my family harm. I fought them there, I’ll fight them here but I’ll make sure people like you will be in front of me instead of behind me this time.
Your comments are so misguided, uninformed, biased, and irrational, they really don’t deserve a response on this forum.
Please try to educate yourself.
Any intelligent observer will have to recognize humans are a violent species. No judgment here, simply fact. With few exceptions, almost all occupied land has, at one time, been taken by force from someone. Before recorded history, it may be assumed ideal hunting grounds were fought over and secured by force of arms, or clubs, arrows, spears; whatever technology was used at the time. Now that weapons of mass destruction are so deadly, it would be naive not to have doubts about our future existence. (North Korea’s lunatic leader with nukes.) So, you snowflakes who think weapons, guns or whatever are not normal, should pull your head out of your dark place. I will have no sympathy for you when the “takers” decide you have something they want, or just don’t like you. You just tell them they’re “not normal”. That will surely save you! Oh, wait! I will bet you desperately call a cop with a gun, and hope he reaches you before it’s too late.
NA – another victim of progressive liberalism, AKA “mad sheep syndrome”. Society’s wolves love easy victims like that: the kind who get on their knees, beg for mercy, and promise the bad guys anything they want, as long as they don’t hurt their cringing victim. REAL Americans – no, real MEN (and women who refuse to be easy victims, as well), stand up for themselves and, more importantly, defend their families, in the face of violent criminals, and won’t hesitate to use ALL means necessary (up to and including lethal force) to do so. “Sheeple” simply make it easier for the bad guys to kill them and leave no witnesses.
On the contrary, NA, during my time in the Army, my weapon kept me alive and allowed me to come home, get married and raise two beautiful daughters, hunt game and feed my family, have a 33 year long career in information technology, and I value my firearms as tools that guarantee the rights of myself, my family, and even misinformed people like you. Without firearms I could not do any of those things, and whether or not you choose to own firearms yourself, if it were not for your right to keep and bear arms, we would all be like the vast majority of the world – disarmed victims of the next despot that comes along and uses force to control and enslave the people. You are really in need of an education of world history if you don’t understand that most basic of concepts. If you are not able to protect the things and people you hold dear, eventually you will be deprived of them up to and including life itself.
You need to keep an open mind to opposing views instead of attempting to silence them. You are free to disagree but you don’t have the right to sit in judgment of others and deny them rights that are granted to all under The Constitution and The Bill of Rights. Are you willing to give up any of your Constitutional rights? Most of the rest of us aren’t either.
The year was 1970, I was a five year old in kindergarten in a small town in Minnesota. My gun was a somewhat pistol shaped block of wood. I got a strong scolding for wielding my plinker of doom. I don’t remember my teachers name or what she looked like, but I do remember getting yelled at. My point is, schools have been doing this for decades. The change is I was scolded, poor little Caitlin was roughed up and suspended.
Hey Mom! Take Caitlin home, give her a hug and tell her she is a good kid. Keep raising her right and maybe you will get lucky and end up with your own little Eve Baxter (aka Last Man Standing).
“Don’t they still make Nerf guns and water guns that kids shoot each other with?” Miller wrote on Facebook.
Yes, they do but if we remember, in Colorado another girl had trouble because of that just one year ago: https://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/five-year-old-suspended-school-plastic-princess-bubble-gun/
You know, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed and I do believe that we now reached the bottom of stupidity here, if we don’t even allow the people, no matter how old they are, to imagine of having a gun, especially if it is just for playing. And now this means that in this school they cannot even point a simple stick to someone. I guess later they won’t be allowed to play other games when they are older, for example chess because there they will move units to kill peasants, queens, riders and capture a king. And guess what, one of the two sides is even black! Actually, I hope they won’t read my post because maybe they would come back to this idea later then.
This school was way overreacting. If we don’t allow children to play and live their imaginations, can they still grow up in a normal way? I am not a psychologist or something like that but personally I highly doubt it.
Nonviolence must be taught. This, however, is very difficult to do. Some people resist being taught.
I agree with you on teaching not to be violent, though there will be always people, as you said yourself, that cannot be taught and those are not the responsible gun owners but the bad guys that become criminals. Therefore, it is better to not just teach the children to be non-violent but also how they can defend themselves in a violent situation.
By the way, before you want to comment, think about all the victims in the numerous school shootings like Columbine. Two evil guys with guns, the victims were good guys and girls without guns. If they would have had guns to defend themselves, who do you think would be the real evil one in such a situation? Obviously not the perpetrators. That is what we have to teach the children.
GOOD LUCK……you live in a fantasy world ……
Nonviolence can be taught, and yet a child can be allowed to use their imagination and play “violent” games. I used to play cowboys and Indians, Army/war, and other childhood “violent” games and have been a gun owner and avid shooter for over 50 years, and yet I am a pacifist and avoided being drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War as I didn’t want to risk having to kill a fellow human being (joined the USAF and served stateside).
A child must be taught that there is a difference between play-acting and real-life (many realize this intuitively). We live in a violent world (if you doubt it, read your daily paper or watch the nightly news) and children need to understand the difference between good and evil, but not by blinding them to the fact that there is evil around us. My children have all been trained on the use of a gun and gun safety from a very early age (dependent on the maturity of the child, not a set age). This education was accomplished not as a means of forcing them into “gun love” or even continuing to use, or own, a gun. My thought has always been that knowledge is a good thing, and knowing the dangers of handling a weapon and the proper steps in doing so, can prevent “accidents” when a child “finds” a gun in a friends house or laying around somewhere. In fact of my three kids, only one has become a gun owner and avid collector/shooter. But, the others are not afraid of a gun, and know how to handle them if necessary.
Very good! My dad is also a Vietnam veteran, who joined the navy at age 17 so he wouldn’t be drafted, rather than playing the abject leftist coward and running off to Kalifornia or Cannuckland. I personally think we were in Vietnam for the wrong reasons – but I respect the men who served (with the exception of those who went TOO far, like the perpetrators of the My Lai incident). I was brought up to use and handle guns responsibly, and am teaching my kids to do the same (despite the attempted brainwashing by my liberal ex-wife). I do believe there is a big difference between having a non-violent attitude, and being a pacifist, though. To me, a true pacifist will avoid violence at ALL COSTS, even down to losing their own life – and refusing to defend anyone else’s lives, as well – rather than resisting a violent attack. A person who simply has a non-violent mindset, however, avoids violence when possible, but is realistic enough to know that sometimes it may be necessary to use violent means to defend oneself and family, and doesn’t hesitate to do so if it comes down to that point. That is my outlook on things. I carry a gun (and I have a permit, BTW, though I strongly support constitutional carry) for the same reason I have a fire extinguisher in my house and always fasten my seat belt, even if I’m a back-seat passenger: I hope and pray I’m never in a situation where any of those things are needed, but better to have them, and never need them, than to need them and not have them.
Nonviolence cannot be taught to the unwilling, nor can it be legislated. You are completely misinformed if you believe otherwise. Ignoring world history since the dawn of human existence does not make it go away nor does it change human nature. The world will never be rid of violent or foolish people, and that is the root cause of both.
Christian, unfortunately stupidity is apparently a bottomless hole into which all reason and sense disappears. You can feed it logic and knowledge for eternity and stupidity will stare onward, un-blinking and unashamed. I wish it were not so.
Hello there VieteranConsultant, thank you very much for your words towards me. I have read them all but use this one now to respond to you. 🙂
At first I have to correct my answer to NA: I wrote “who do you think would be the real evil one in such a situation? Obviously not the perpetrators.” I didn’t want to write perpetrators but the children that were defenseless, because in such a situation they are the good guys.
I never saw NA on this website before but due to the many responds towards his strange opinion right here, it seems that he already gained some attention. I think the only problem of NA is the fact that he is obviously on the wrong website and due to the fact that he generalizes all the people that keep and bear arms. Funny, they call themselves liberals, democrats and things like that, yet, I have no better example, they use Nazi tactics with comments like this, generalizing everybody and therefore calling themselves the good guys while all the ones that don’t follow their opinion are the evil guys. Reminds me of the brainwashed Antifa kids, that can only awake after they finally saw reality coming towards themselves. They want to smash fascism, yet they use the same tactics and in the end, don’t smash it but support it.
VieteranConsultant, thank you also very much for welcoming me to your country. In fact, I was thinking at least about of spending a holiday in Colorado, because I want to see the Columbine High School Memorial and it seems that the area around Denver is very beautiful too. I am sure there are a lot of interesting places to see in your country and although there would be obviously much to learn for me, I am sure that after living there a few years I should get along with your culture etc. At least I would feel much safer in an area where I know that there are plenty of good guys that carry around me because in my place, Berlin, I never leave the house without having a combat knife concealed in the inner pocket of my jacket. Luckily, I never came into a situation of using it and I also lack any training, so who knows if I would be good enough with that thing, if a real dangerous situation shall ever occur, but at least I got something. Indeed, it is against German law to carry a blade that is longer than 12 cm, even concealed, but what else should I do? I just want to have the option of defending my life. I don’t want to harm anyone and that is what this is all about but unfortunately people like NA don’t seem to understand this.
OF COURSE YOU GOTTA SUSPEND HER!
You don’t want her growing up thinking that she has the right to keep and bear arms, do you?
IMAGINE HER WHOLE CLASS GREW UP THINKING THAT THEY ALL HAD THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS?
American kids are brainwashed early – GUNS ARE BAD – POLICE HAVE GUNS – THEY WILL PROTECT YOU – COWER AND HIDE – I MEAN – SHELTER IN PLACE (COWER AND TREMBLE IN PLACE) – POLICE WILL COME (Then you line up WITH YOUR HANDS HELD UP HIGH – and the police will search YOU to make sure you weren’t complicit in the shooting/terrorist act etc. – then you will be released) AMERICA – LAND THAT USED TO BE FREE – HOME OF THE COWERING IN FRONT OF DANGER AND THEN COWERING IN FRONT OF GOVERNMENT ENFORCERS!
They run drills that condition school kids to do exactly this.
Frightened, cringing, cowering people are dangerous. When such people have guns, they are deadly.
I stay away from them.
NA,
You say that but you lie.
Your on every gunsamerica article I have looked at today.
You HATE guns, you HATE people that own guns, you HATE 5 year old girls that play pretend games with pretend guns, you FEAR people that own guns, You FEAR people that talk about guns.
Sounds to me like you have some hateful, fearful, bigoted feelings. You should seek some counseling, but until then I suggest you stop trolling websites that feed your hate and fearful phobias.
You are a sheep. Be grateful for the shepards and sheepdogs that will keep you safe when the wolves come for you.
So… you’re admitting you’re dangerous, NA? After all, your attitude is that of a frightened, cringing coward (“Oh, eeek – there are people out there with GUNS! Run away! Run away!”). You can’t stay away from yourself, however. You live in a fantasy world. Better pray that reality, in the form of a violent armed criminal (who won’t care WHAT the local gun control laws are), doesn’t rudely interrupt your life…
NA is just another troll. Ignore him. Let him be a sheep.
Please explain how you stay away from yourself. Be honest, and accurate and tell us all how you manage to achieve non corporeal form, because that is the only way for you to distance yourself from yourself.
You sir, are a walking contradiction and a swirling mess of conflicting and illogical thoughts.
